1 Changes to the American Community Survey Field of Degree Data The American Community Survey s (ACS) field of degree coding system assigned is based on the coding system used in the National Center for Education Statistics Classification (NCES) of Instructional Programs (CIP) The 2009 ACS relied on codes from CIP The NCES updated its taxonomy in CIP 2010, and the ACS codes were revised accordingly. Although the changes were few in number, ACS users should be aware of them when comparing distributions from 2009 to later years.
