2 The Faculty The Faculty of Humanities is the largest faculty at the Tshwane University of Technology and one of its kinds in the country. It is situated in Soshanguve, 30 km north of Pretoria. Most of its programmes are offered through contact education. The faculty has approximately registered distant education students. Its programmes are offered at the Soshanguve North, Soshanguve South, emalahleni, Mbombela and Polokwane campuses, and at service points in Durban and Cape Town.

3 Faculty of Humanities: Office of the Dean Prof Elsabe Coetzee Acting Executive Dean Prof Elsabe Coetzee is involved in research and is focusing on topics like community engagement, post-graduate studies and open distance learning. She holds a PhD in Psycho- and Socio-Pedagogics from the University of Pretoria. Her most recent publication is on Community Engagement in Higher Education. Prof Coetzee has successfully supervised 20 master s degree students and two doctoral students. She is currently supervising four doctoral students. Prof Andile Mji Assistant Dean: Postgraduate Studies, Research and Innovation Prof Elsabe Coetzee Tel: (012) coetzeeiem@tut.ac.za Prof Andile Mji is responsible for all research activities within the faculty. He holds a D-Ed in Mathematics Education from Walter Sisulu University and is the author of more than 35 articles in accredited journals. Three master s students and seven doctoral students completed their studies under his supervision. He is on editorial boards of various journals: Psychological Reports, Pythagoras, Africa Education Review, The Journal of Independent Teaching and Learning, Journal of Science and Information Technology, to name but a few. 4 Prof Mashudu C Mashige Acting Assistant Dean: Teaching, Learning and Technology Prof Mashudu C Mashige Tel: (012) MashigeMC@tut.ac.za Prof Mashudu C Mashige holds a D Litt et Phil (English) from the former Rand Afrikaans University, now the University of Johannesburg. The title of his thesis is Identity, Culture and Contemporary South African Poetry. To date, he has published fourteen (14) peer-reviewed scholarly articles, written two (2) book chapters and authored nineteen (19) forewords/ editorials in accredited journals. He is currently the main supervisor to two doctoral students and co-supervises Masters students. Furthermore, he is in the study panel of two other Doctoral students. He has externally examined four (4) doctoral theses and eleven (11) master s dissertations for UFS, UKZN, UL, UZ and UFH. His research interests are, but not limited to, language as identity marker, folklore studies, orality, integrating literature into language teaching, the construction of identities, folkloric expressions, multilingualism, indigenous knowledge systems, literature, language matters, African Renaissance, and Moral Regeneration. Prof Mashige is the Scientific Editor of the Southern African Journal for Folklore Studies, former Editor-in-chief of the Journal of Educational Studies and past Deputy Editor of the International Journal of African Renaissance Studies. He also serves in the South African Geographical Names Council as a Ministerial appointee. 2

5 OR Tambo Chair for MSTE Prof Willy Mwakapenda Prof Willy Mwakapenda obtained his PhD from the Deakin University in Australia. His fields of expertise include Mathematics education, teacher education, curriculum issues, and learners understanding in Mathematics. He currently holds the OR Tambo Chair - Mathematics, Science and Technology Education - at Tshwane University of Technology. Prof Mwakapenda has authored 13 articles that were published in accredited journals, two book chapters, one edited book, and he has delivered more than 30 papers at international conferences. Three doctoral students and more than 15 master s students completed their studies under his supervision. He is currently supervising seven master s degree students and eight doctoral students. 6 Applied Languages Prof Charles Mann Prof Charles Mann Tel: (012) Prof Charles Mann obtained his PhD in Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh in the United Kingdom. His areas of expertise include: Sociolinguistics (esp. Contact Linguistics: pidgins and creoles); Language Attitudes; Language Policy & Planning; and, World Englishes. Prof Mann co-authored a book (on the possible effects of multilingualism on academic achievement and additional language learning in Iran). He has numerous articles in peer-reviewed, international journals, and served as a reviewer for several academic journals (including Journal of Pidgin and Creole Languages; Language Policy; Journal for Language Teaching). Prof Mann has successfully supervised more than one hundred master s dissertations, and three doctoral theses. He is currently supervising five doctoral and five master s students. He is a member of the following professional bodies: Society for Pidgin and Creole Linguistics (SPCL) (1989-todate); International Association of World Englishes (IAWE) (1998-to date); Honorary Board Member, Linguistic Society of the Philippines (LSP) (2010-to date). Prof Linda van Huyssteen Prof Linda van Huyssteen Tel: (012) vanhussteenl@tut.ac.za Prof Linda van Huyssteen obtained a D Lit et Phil in Linguistics at the University of South Africa. She is actively involved in the promotion of post-graduate students internally and externally, and is an examiner for other universities. She also reviews research chair applications for South African universities tasked by the NRF and worked on an NRF research project on Computational morphology in IsiZulu up to She has published articles in linguistics and onomastic journals (9 articles), and has read several papers at different conferences in Southern Africa and internationally in linguistics, onomastic, mythology and terminology. She belongs to professional societies such as the African Language Association of Southern Africa and the Names Society of Southern Africa. Prof van Huyssteen also reviews articles for academic journals. 7 Dr Chaka P Chaka Dr Chaka P Chaka holds a PhD (English) from the University of the Free State. His Research specialisation includes English for Academic Purposes (EAP); second language learning and teaching; semantics; pragmatics; sociolinguistics; discourse and text analysis; critical linguistics; critical discourse analysis; critical literacy; feminist linguistics; language and gender; language and media; language planning and policy; language and education; computer-mediated communication (CMC); electronic learning (e-learning); computer assisted language learning (CALL); mobile learning (m-learning); mobile assisted language learning (MALL); Web 2.0 learning/mobile Web 2.0 learning; Web 3.0/Mobile Web 3.0 learning; Semantic Web learning/mobile Semantic Web learning; virtual and immersive teaching and learning; online/mobile social networking for teaching and learning; online genre and discourse analysis; knowledge management (KM); and learning organisation (LO). Her field of expertise include literature and linguistics, Folklore, discourse and text analysis, feminism and womanism. She is currently supervising master`s students and has presented scientific papers at national and international conferences. She is an external examiner for master s and doctoral s dissertations in the African Languages Department for UP and UNISA. 8 Educational Studies Prof Harry Rampa Tel: (012) Prof Harry Rampa Prof Harry Rampa holds a PhD in Educational Management from the University of Pretoria. He specialises in Total Quality Management (TQM) and improvement of schools. He has published four articles in accredited journals. He is also the author of The relationship between total quality management and school improvement which was published in He has successfully supervised three doctoral students and 15 master s students. He is currently supervising three doctoral students and eight master s students. Prof Harry Rampa is a member of the Education Dean s Forum and a member of Education Management Association of South Africa (EMASA) as well as a member of the South African Council for Education (SACE). Prof Anil Kanjee Prof Anil Kanjee Tel: (012) KanjeeA@tut.ac.za Prof Anil Kanjee obtained a D.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in Research and Evaluation Methods. Currently, he serves as the Research Professor within the Department, and is the co-ordinator of the Masters and Doctoral programme. His research focuses on the use of assessment for improving learning, teacher professional development, the development of national assessment systems, the application of ICT for improving learning and teaching, and the use of Item Response Theory for reporting test scores. He has extensive experience in national and international studies, and has served as a technical advisor to education ministries in Africa and Asia as well as to national and international organisations like UNESCO and UNICEF. He has published numerous articles in accredited journal and has contributed chapters to various books. He recently co-authored a book with Y Sayed and M Nkomo, The search for quality: Policy reforms to improve education quality in South Africa since 1994 which was published in Currently he is working on four projects that focuses on the development of a: (i) framework for implementing assessment for learning in- and pre-service capacity development programmes ; (ii) training programme on summative and formative assessment for pre-service teachers; and (iii) framework for reporting national assessment scores. 6 Department 2015 List of Applied of Academic Languages Experts 5

9 Prof Charles Mampuru Prof Charles Mampuru holds a PhD (Ed) from the University of Pretoria. His fields of specialisation are Educational Management, Negotiation Skills, and Project Management. He has supervised four doctoral students, 35 M.Ed. students and 45 MTech students. He is the author of a book entitled Negotiation Skills in School Management and he has published three articles in accredited journals. Dr Nicoleen Schuld Prof Charles Mampuru Tel: (012) Mampurukc@tut.ac.za Dr Nicoleen Schuld holds a D.Ed. in Educational Psychology from the University of South Africa (UNISA). 10 Prof Simeon Maile Prof Simeon Maile Tel: (012) Prof Simeon Maile obtained his PhD with specialisation in Educational Management in 2000 from the University of Pretoria. To date, five doctoral candidates and 28 master s students have successfully completed their studies under his supervision. He has presented 33 papers at national and international conferences. He has published twenty-six articles in refereed accredited national and international journals, six chapter books and two books. Three of his book manuscripts are being prepared for publication. Currently he chairs the research section in the Department of Educational Studies. Prof Maile has received institutional awards and national and international grants for his research. His research interests cut across Educational Management, Education and Development, Education and Politics, Research Methods for the Social and Human Sciences, Economics of Education, Education Policy Analysis, and Education Labour Relations. Dr Thelma de Jager She is the FET coordinator in the Department of Educational Studies and is lecturing General Subject Didactics. Dr de Jager is authoring a peer-reviewed textbook based on General Subject Didactics (published by Van Schaik), which will be published in She has authored several articles that were published in accredited journals and peer reviewed journals. She is also a reviewer of accredited and peer-reviewed journals. She is involved in the supervision of five masters and one doctoral student and is a member of the DRIC committee. Dr Thelma de Jager Tel: (012) DeJagerT@tut.ac.za Dr de Jager serves on the editorial board of the International Technology, Education and Development Conference and she was awarded lecturer of the year (Department: Humanities) several times and she was also selected to participate in the National Awards for TUT. 11 Dr Reginald Botshabeng Monyai Dr Reginald Botshabeng Monyai obtained a PhD in Curriculum Studies from Vista University in His area of specialisation is Language in Education. He has published an article in an accredited journal and is also the author of The Educator as Mediator of Meaning which was published in He is currently supervising four master s degree students. Dr Reginald Botshabeng Monyai Tel: (012) MonyaiRB@tut.ac.za Prof Moses Makgato Prof Moses Makgato obtained a D.Ed. in Technology Education from the University of South Africa (UNISA) in He conducts research in Technology Education. He has published ten articles in journals and conference proceedings and has presented papers at both national and international conferences. He has also authored a number of books for Further Education and Training (FET) colleges. Prof Makgato supervises master s and doctoral students in the field of Educational Technology. 12 Dr Lydia Mphahlele Dr Lydia Kgomotso Mphahlele holds a PhD in Education Management from the Tshwane University of Technology. She specialises in Teacher Development and improvement of schools. She has been involved in the (i) European Union funded project: Strengthening Foundation Phase Teacher Education Programmes and (ii) the Assessment for Learning (AFL) project for teacher development. She published articles in accredited journals and conference proceedings and has presented papers at both national and international conferences. Dr Lydia Kgomotso Mphahlele is a member of the Education Management Association of South Africa (EMASA). Dr Lydia Mphahlele Tel: (012) mphahlelelk@tut.ac.za Dr Selina Ramapela Dr Selina Ramapela holds a D Ed from Tshwane University of Technology. Her fields of expertise are Psychology, English, Life Orientation and Didactics. She is a registered psyhometrist (HPCSA) and educator (SACE). She is a co-author of the 1st and 2nd of the textbook titled Life Skills, My Journey, My Destiny. She delivered three papers on language competency, effective teaching strategies and effective mentoring models international. She participated in reviewing research papers. She is nominated for the TUT HIV/AIDS policy review and is a CoP (community of practice) member for HEAids which is coordinated by Department of Basic Education in the country. 13 Law Prof Dane Ally Prof Ally obtained his LLD degree from the University of Pretoria. His thesis is focused on the admissibility of unconstitutionally obtained evidence in criminal proceedings in South Africa. Prof Ally s research interests are in the fields of Criminal Procedural Law, Law of Evidence and Human Rights Law, more particularly the protection of socio-economic rights and the advancement of the right to development. He is a member of the South African Criminal Law and Law of Evidence Teachers Association, a group of law specialists teaching and conducting research on issues relating to procedural law in the South African criminal justice system. In furtherance of the purposes of that association, he was the organiser and co-ordinator of the Second Annual Law of Criminal Procedure and Evidence Indaba, hosted by the Tshwane University of Technology on 21 April 2013, where Mr Justice J Kriegler delivered the keynote address. Prof Dane Ally Tel: (012) AllyD@tut.ac.za Prof Ally has been appointed as a member of the board of reviewers for the Online Journal on Social Sciences Research and the Journal of African Law, Society & Development. He has authored seven articles which were published in accredited law journals; two chapters in peer reviewed books, and a contribution in accredited conference proceedings. He has presented 11 papers at national and international law conferences. He is the editor and coauthor (with TM Mokoena, in the employ of UNISA) of the book Basic Criminal Procedure: A Bill of Rights Perspective, due for publication by Juta in September He is the project leader of a Legal Advice Centre Project, to be launched by the Department of Law on 1 August 2013, which will function in the areas of Soshanguve and Winterveldt. Some of the important goals sought to be achieved by this centre are community development projects and the advancement of research. He has successfully co-supervised one master s degree student in the Department of Safety and Security Management. He currently co-supervises one doctoral student, and he is the co-supervisor of four master s degree students. He is a member of the African Network of Constitutional Lawyers. 11

14 Dr Claribel Lancaster Dr Claribel Lancaster obtained her PhD at the Copernicus Institute for Sustainable Development and Innovation at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Her area of expertise falls within sustainable development and global supply chains, focused on policy implications. She has published articles in various international peer reviewed journals and presented papers ranging from legal issues to entrepreneurship and sustainability, linking interdisciplinary themes. Aside from lecturing undergraduate students in several aspects of Law, she supervises postgraduate students in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. Dr Claribel Lancaster Tel: (012)

15 Journalism Dr Aaron Tshidzumba Ndivhoniswani Aaron Tshidzumba was born on the 17 September 1969, Limpopo Province. After completing his matric at the Vhulaudzi High School, in 1990 he went to the University of Venda to study for the B A degree and U.E.D (Teachers Diploma), graduating in He graduated an Honours degree in Communication at the University of the North West in the year 2000, a TV Post-graduate Diploma from the National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa (NEMISA) in 2001 and a Masters in Communication from North- West University (NWU) in 2004 and a Doctorate in Communication (Phd) from the North West University-Mafikeng Campus. His professional experience includes teaching in high schools such as the Task Academy in Johannesburg; Riverlea High School in Johannesburg; Palm Ridge High School in Johannesburg; Mmabatho High School in Mafikeng; Hurlingham and Chelsea College in London; a Communications Lecturer at the North-West University in Mafikeng; Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NEMISA in 2010 and currently a Journalism Lecturer at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). Dr Aaron Tshidzumba Tel: (012) tshidzumbana@tut.ac.za Dr Pedro Diederichs Dr Pedro Diederichs obtained a Doctorate in Journalism from the Tshwane University of Technology. He specialises in Print Media. Dr Diederichs published five articles in accredited journals, contributed one chapter in a book on mass media and wrote many articles for various newspapers. 16 Dr Lizette Odendaal Dr Lizette Odendaal Tel: (012) Dr Odendaal holds a D Tech Journalism from Tshwane University of Technology. Her area of research expertise falls within the print media industry in South Africa, focusing on community newspapers, government and print-industry relationships, media economics (print media) and community media entrepreneurship. Through her research, Lizette developed a multi-layered media management model to create a better understanding of the community media sector in South Africa, the changing nature of industry-competition, and the use of key business success factors. The model provides insight and knowledge about the economic objectives of sustainable print-media entrepreneurship as basis for quality journalism, and in an advertisingproduction equation, enables community editors to find a workable balance between aspects such as costs, products, industry change, customer preferences and diversification. She supervises post-graduate students and coordinates industry liaison within the community media in South Africa. 14

17 Maths, Science & Technology Education (MSTE) Prof L. Thapelo Mamiala Prof Thapelo Mamiala is the Head of Department of Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (MSTE). He obtained a Doctorate in Science Education (ScEdD) from Curtin University of Technology, Australia. His field of expertise includes Science education, Chemistry education, Classroom-based research and Explanations research in MSTE. Prof Mamiala has published articles in accredited journals both locally and internationally. He has delivered academic papers at both national and international conferences. He is a co-author of two chapters in a science education book called, Science teaching in the OBE classroom, with H. van Rooyen & J. De Beer as Editors. His has recently coauthored an article in SAJE (2012) titled What Inspires South African Student Teachers for their Future Profession? and he has also participated in a SAASTE Biennial conference in 2013 where he presented a paper titled Traditional and religious beliefs and their potential impact in the understanding of school science. Prof Mamiala is usually invited as a guest speaker to provide his views on trends related to science education locally as well as internationally. He supervises postgraduate students. He is a member of Southern African Association of Research in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (SAARMSTE), South African Association in Science and Technology Educators (SAASTE), Association for Mathematics Education of South Africa (AMESA. 18 Prof Fhatuwani J Mundalamo Fhatuwani J Mundalamo is an Associate Professor in science education. He holds a PhD in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (Physics Education) from UNISA, an MSc (Physics) and BSc (Hons) (Physics) from UWC, and a BSc (Education) from the University of Venda. He teaches physics and researches in science education. He supervises postgraduate students and publishes in the field of science education. Prof Mundalamo is a member of International Study Association on Teachers and Teaching (ISATT), and Southern African Association for Research in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education (SAARMSTE). Prof Fhatuwani J Mundalamo Tel: (012) MundalamoFJ@tut.ac.za Dr Thomas Sedumedi Dr Thomas Sedumedi Tel: (012) sedumeditdt@tut.ac.za Dr. Thomas Sedumedi is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics, Science and Technology Education. He holds a PhD in Curriculum Development and Instructional Design from the University of Pretoria. His PhD thesis focused on prior knowledge as an important factor in the teaching and learning of Science, with specific reference to Chemistry. Dr Sedumedi is currently teaching Chemistry for preservice teachers. His research interests are in teacher knowledge, conceptual change in science, science teaching and learning. He has presented at conferences locally and internationally and has publications in his area of expertise. In addition to his undergraduate teaching, Dr Sedumedi supervises both at masters and doctoral levels for other universities. He belongs and participates in research associations both locally (e.g. South African Association for Research in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education) and internationally (e.g. International Study Association on Teachers and Teaching). 16

19 Public Management Prof Mashupye H Maserumule Prof Mashupye H Maserumule holds a DLitt et Phil in Public Administration from the University of South Africa (UNISA). His areas of specialisation are: a developmental state, local governance, state reform, research, politics and theory of knowledge in the field of public administration. With more than 50 publications to his name, which comprise articles in scholarly, professional and political journals, chapters in books and research papers in conference proceedings, Maserumule s expertise in issues of governance are undisputable. He has co-edited and contributed chapters in these books: Cases in Public Administration: A South African Perspective [Heinemann in 2004] and The Zuma Administration: Critical Challenges [HSRC Press 2010]. He has also edited conference proceedings titled Public Administration in the Second Decade of Democracy in South Africa. He is currently involved in a book project that profiles the South African Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), for which he is writing a chapter on Pre-poll Preparations for the Founding Elections in South Africa. The book is slated for publication in He is also writing a chapter for a book for publication in 2013 by Van Schaik, titled Managing Human Capital and another book on the Politics of Scholarship in Public Administration. Its publication date is yet to be determined. Prof Maserumule is coordinating the second volume of the book The Zuma Administration: Critical Challenges, which, as published in 2010, he co-edited and contributed a chapter on Consolidating a Developmental State: A Governance Challenge. Prof Mashupye H Maserumule Tel: (012) maserumulemh@tut.ac.za Prof Maserumule supervises masters and doctoral students, of which some have already completed. He has presented more than 30 papers in national and international conferences. He has participated in the review of a single public service bill for the Ministry of Public Service and Administration (DPSA). He has completed a commissioned research paper on Development and Transformation: The Place of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) in the Developmental State for the Presidential Review Committee on SOEs. He is the President of the South African Association of Public Administration and Management (SAAPAM). His views on matters of governance are regularly solicited for policy development in government and also by the media. 17

20 Prof Enslin van Rooyen Prof Enslin van Rooyen obtained a DAdmin (Public Administration) from the University of Pretoria. Additional qualifications include Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing Management; certificates in Labour Relations, Project Management and Advanced Project Management. He has also successfully completed a Certificate in Regional Development Administration from the esteemed JICA in Sapporo, Japan. In addition, he has conducted an internship at Indiana University in Bloomington, United States of America, under the International Professional Internship Programme, an affiliate of the Fulbright Scholarship Programme. Prof Enslin van Rooyen Tel: (012) VanRooyenEJ@tut.ac.za Enslin van Rooyen has worked in the South African public sector as administrative official and later an administrative head for various national ministries at Parliament in Cape Town, among others the Ministries of Local Government and Housing. He has also spent much of his professional life at the Technikon Pretoria and later on at the University of Pretoria as a lecturer, senior lecturer and associate professor. He joined the Tshwane University of Technology as a Professor in 2010, in the Department of Public Management. He has successfully supervised three doctoral students and 29 master s students. He is currently supervising two doctoral and four master s students. He has contributed four chapters in various books and edited a text book. Prof Van Rooyen has published five articles in non-accredited journals and 23 articles in accredited national and international journals. He has delivered 39 papers at national and international conferences and symposia. Prof Van Rooyen specialises in Local-economic development, Organisational development and Strategic and Project Management. The Executive Mayor of the City of Tshwane appointed Prof Van Rooyen as one of eight commissioners to provide strategic guidance and advice towards the city s development for the next five years. 18

21 Prof Kabelo Moeti Prof Kabelo Moeti holds a Doctorate in Administration which he obtained from the University of Pretoria. He specialises in Public Sector Economics and Public Finance. He is the author of various accredited journals and Editor and co-author of the book Public Finance Fundamentals, which is widely prescribed for undergraduate students. He has also co-authored the book, Understanding the Constitution which was published in Prof Moeti is currently editing, together with colleagues from other South African universities, the second edition of a book on Public Finance. Litt et Phil degree in Political Science from the Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg). His expertise is in the field of Policing. He was, inter alia, Brigadier, as well as, acting Rector and Commander of the Police Academy in Graaff-Reinet. During his career, he has supervised 11 (eleven) Master s degree students and co-supervised 14 master s degree students. Three doctoral students obtained their degrees under his supervision and he has also co-supervised four doctoral students. He has authored 12 articles that were published in accredited journals. Prof De Vries was President of the Criminological and Victimological Society of Southern Africa (CRIMSA), ( ) He is also a member of the Editorial Board of the Southern African Journal of Criminology (Acta Criminologica). Prof Emeka E Obioha Prof Emeka E Obioha Tel: (012) obiohaee@tut.ac.za Prof Emeka E Obioha is currently the Programme Manager/ Co-ordinator: Research and Postgraduate Programme in the Department of Safety and Security Management. He obtained a PhD in Sociology from University of Ibadan. His areas of specialisation include: criminology, social problems, human security, social development, applied/development sociology and anthropology. With over two decades experience in his career, he has authored/co-authored over sixty (60) articles published in peer reviewed/ accredited Journals and chapters in books, co-edited four (4) volumes of Research for Development and authored two (2) mono books: Civil Society s Participation in Urban Crime Management in Nigeria... (2006) and Public Perception of the Role of Nigeria Police Force and Civil Society Based Security Operatives in Urban Crime Management in Nigeria... (2004). He has presented over thirty (30) papers at international conferences, completed thirteen(13) Policy Technical Reports and over twenty (20) Research projects on various capacities. Prof Obioha has supervised/co-supervised over thirty (30) students to completion of their research projects/dissertations/theses. He is currently supervising/co-supervising four (4) doctoral and ten (10) masters students. He has been on NRF assessors list and was appointed to the Research Board of Advisers of the American Biographical Institute (ABI) since 2003 and 2005 respectively. Prof Obioha has featured as the Editor-in-Chief of a learned Journal and on the editorial board of four other Journals. Among others, he received a Research Laureate Award from Council for Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) 1998; Faculty Senior Researcher of the Year 2012 and 2013, Tshwane University of Technology. 20

23 Dr Jacob T Mofokeng Dr Jacob Mofokeng obtained his Doctorate in Policing from the Tshwane University of Technology. Before joining the university he was a law enforcement officer for 13 years, of which ten years spent at Detective Service and three within Information and Communication Technology (ICT) environment. He is a member of the Council of the Criminological and Victimological Society of Southern Africa (CRIMSA) as well as an EXCO member of the Policing Association of Southern Africa (POLSA). His key areas of expertise include: Criminal Investigation and Transnational Crime. He has authored and co-authored articles which were published in accredited journals as well as presented papers at national and international conferences. He obtained his Doctorate degree in Policing from the Tshwane University of Technology. His thesis entitled: Crime Prevention and The Criminal Justice Systems of Nigeria and South Africa: A Comparative Perspective. His research interests cut across Legal systems, Crime Prevention and the Comparative Criminal Justice Systems. He has presented research papers at various peer reviewed national and international conferences. In 2011, he won the Best Paper presented in the category of Criminal justice during the Bi-Annual Conference of Criminological and Victimological Society of Southern Africa (CRIMSA). He is currently concluding chapters in different books. One of the books is to be prescribed for Policing students in the entire continent of Africa (to be published by Pearson Publishers; South Africa). He has also contributed a chapter entitled Community policing: A Panacea or a Pandora box to Criminalities in Nigeria and South Africa in a book published by Taylor and Francis Group early in He is a member of Criminological and Victimological Society of Southern Africa, Policing Association of Southern Africa and the Nigerian Bar Association. Aside from lecturing undergraduate students in several aspects of Law and Policing, he supervises postgraduate students in Policing for the Department of Safety and Security Management of Tshwane University of Technology. 24 Dr Sean R Kockott Dr Sean Kockott, a Snr lecturer, obtained his D-Tech at TUT in Policing. His area of expertise falls within Road Traffic or Municipal Policing Management, focused on road traffic safety audits and risks assessment. He has worked overseas in the Middle East as advisor to the oil and gas industry and mining. His research interests are, but not limited to road, traffic and transportation safety, management and risk identification. Aside from lecturing undergraduate students in Road Traffic Systems, he supervises postgraduate students in Road Traffic and Municipal Police Management and has published an article, related to his doctoral study, in an accredited scientific journal.
