16 Conclusions Networks define eresearch Research has a variety of requirements: High-end demanding applications of the few (speed, latency, etc) Closed group of collaborating researchers (privacy, security, etc) Needs of the masses (reliability, reach, capacity) Experimental networks supported (Federica, GENI, FIRE, PlanetLab, etc) Some research requirements are very demanding Australia s networks allow researchers to play on the world stage Network capacity & capability must keep ahead of the game Constant incremental growth in capacity and capability required Significant investment required occasionally AARNet/AREN is well-placed to support all forms of eresearch 31 Other Examples 32
