1 Trabuco Hills High School Registration Information for Incoming Students Welcome to THHS Step One: The following documents are required for all new student registration: 1. Two proofs of address (a current gas, water, or electric bill, mortgage statement or lease agreement in parent/guardian s name). 2. A copy of the student s current transcript or grade report. 3. A copy of the student s immunization record. Please note effective September 10, 2010, state law requires that all students have the pertussis booster (Tdap) prior to attending school in California. 4. A copy of the student s birth certificate (the student will be registered under their legal name provided on the birth certificate per California Ed Code). 5. If you want your child to be considered for honors classes at THHS, you will need a letter of recommendation from his or her current subject teacher(s) as well as the latest standardized test scores. Step Two: Go to Saddleback Valley Unified School District website at: Click on: New to SVUSD? New Parent Information Click Blue Box: Online Student Registration Follow the steps to register your student and create an SVUSD account. Step Three: Please make an appointment, using the student s last name, with the appropriate Guidance Technician. Bring the completed registration form and documents listed in Step One. We will be unable to process your registration without the documents listed above in Step One. Student and parent must both attend the registration appointment. 2 Saddleback Valley Unified School District NOTIFICATION OF HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS Student s Name Grade Date High School TO RECEIVE A DIPLOMA FROM THE SADDLEBACK VALLEY UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT, A STUDENT MUST: 1. Earn a minimum of a 1.75 total GPA; 2. Earn a minimum of 220 units of coursework: 165 required units; 55 elective units; SUBJECT REQUIREMENT SUBJECT REQUIREMENT English 40 units Health 5 units Math * 30 units Physical Education ** 20 units Science Social Science 30 units 30 units Foreign Language, Fine Arts, or Applied Arts/ Technical Arts 10 units * The 30 units of mathematics must include the content of the SVUSD Algebra 1 course (One year of Algebra I or two years of Algebra IA and IB). Students completing Algebra I in intermediate school with an "A" or "B" will have met one year of the high school math graduation requirements and must complete an additional 20 units of advanced math at the high school level. Students completing Geometry Honors in intermediate school must complete at least 20 units of math at the high school level. No high school units will be granted for completing Algebra 1 or Geometry in intermediate school. Students receiving a C or lower in advanced math in intermediate school will need to repeat the class the following year. ** Students must enroll in two semesters of Physical Education in 9 th grade. If a student meets the Physical Fitness Test (PFT) Healthy Fitness Zone (HFZ) proficiency level in 9 th grade, the student may elect to take the remaining two semesters in either the 10 th, 11 th or 12 th grade. Students who do not meet the PFT HFZ performance level in 9 th grade must take PE in 10 th grade. No student will receive credit for more than eight semesters of Physical Education. 3. Demonstrate grade level writing proficiency on a District benchmark activity, (CAHSEE writing sample or District portfolio), given first at grade 10; 4. Submit verification of a minimum of eight hours of community service or equivalent project to be completed during their high school career; 5. Successfully pass both sections (English Language Arts and Mathematics) of the California High School Exit Examination (CAHSEE). Students transferring into the District from an accredited high school shall receive appropriate academic credit for previously completed courses when the sending district verifies that the student has satisfactorily completed those courses. The District will evaluate all coursework and credits granted by the accredited high school and make an individual determination on how those credits will be applied to the District s graduation requirements. Students transferring into the District from a non accredited school will not receive credit for work done at that institution. An accredited school is one that has received accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) or one of the other five regional associations that accredit public and private schools, colleges and universities in the United States, or in the case of a school outside of the United States, by the equivalent governmental accrediting agency in that jurisdiction. (Board Policy ) To participate in a high school graduation ceremony and receive a comprehensive high school diploma, a student must have completed all graduation requirements prior to the ceremony. 4 Saddleback Valley Unified School District Parents of Students New to the District According to regulations of the California State Department of Education (Education Code EC 306[a], ; former EC [a]; 5 CCR 4304), every student in grades Transitional Kindergarten through twelfth (TK-12), whose Home Language Survey (HLS) indicates a language other than English must, be tested for English language proficiency. Determining student s proficiency in English ensures students placements are the most appropriate. All students, grades TK-12, are assessed in the areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The testing process takes between one to three hours depending on the student s grade and/or English proficiency. This assessment takes place once the registration has been initiated. It is important that parents/guardians accompany their son/daughter to the Language Assessment Center. Please bring a copy of the completed Home Language Survey and/or any records from previous language testing. Parents and/or guardians will leave the testing session with written information the school staff needs in order to complete registration and select the appropriate classes.
