2 Registration Information for 8 th Grade You will be selecting: English PE Math Elective All students will be automatically enrolled in US History and Physical Science. Step 1: The 8 th Grade Course Selection Form must be completed and is due by Monday, April 20 th. Before you begin to fill it out, read the instructions on the contract. It is a contract because your signature will indicate that you understand it and that you will abide by it. Step 2: Log into your PARENT Aeries Portal account. You will select their courses ONLINE! The online registration window will be open on April 13 th and will close on April 20 th.
3 Math Planning Recommendations Course Course Integrated Math A Readiness Integrated Math B Readiness With grade of A in IMAR, we recommend the mandatory summer bridge (pass/fail) & enrollment in IMB in 8 th grade. Integrated Math B With grade of B or C in IMAR and teacher/counselor/family consultation, students are eligible to take the mandatory summer bridge
4 Course Course Integrated Math A Integrated Math B With grade of A in IMA, we recommend either IMB or IMBH Any student wanting to move from IMA to IMAH is strongly recommended to complete the optional independent study summer bridge. Integrated Math B Honors With B or C we recommend IMB With grade of D or F in IMA, teacher and counselor will consult to determine appropriate placement of IMB or IMBR

6 Course Course Integrated Math B Honors Integrated Math 1 Honors
7 English Courses Students currently in Honors English 7 should continue in Honors English 8 as long as they earn C s or better both semesters. If you are not in Honors English 7 but would like to be in Honors English 8, please review the course profiles on the CVMS counseling website so you are making an informed decision. Please make a careful and thoughtful decision based on your abilities and dedication to studies because you will be making a year long commitment.
8 Physical Education Options General PE Dance Adapted PE Aide (Application required) ISPE (Application Required)
9 World Languages Choices of world languages for grade 8 are French, Spanish, Chinese You must earn a C or better to move on to Spanish II. We recommend you begin your world language no later than 9 th grade. In 9 th grade, additional choices of Japanese, and American Sign Language may be available.
10 Band/Orchestra If you wish to be in Band or Orchestra and are not currently in the program, please download the music intent form online. If you are currently in the music program, your teacher will determine your level. You may choose to do PE and have Band/Orchestra be your only elective. Or, you may exercise your option as a music/ispe student for a second elective. ISPE Application is Required.
11 Courses Requiring Applications The following courses require an application which are available on-line in the optional forms section of the registration forms page. Leadership TV Broadcasting/Journalism Yearbook Adapted PE Aide College Readiness Please complete your portion of the application and attach it to your plan sheet, or give it to a teacher if a confidential recommendation is needed. ISPE: Applications are web-based and are available on the Carmel Valley Middle School web site under registration forms.
12 Choose Wisely We are scheduling for the whole year. Schedule changes will not be made to accommodate teacher requests, period requests, or extracurricular and athletic activities. SDUHSD Board Policy sets a four-week limit at the beginning of each semester to drop a class. Level changes (from honors to college prep) may be requested during this four-week period if there is space available.
13 Course Selection Form Read the Contract and Instructions thoroughly. Course selections will not be officially recognized without a parent/guardian signature on the contract. You must choose your courses online through your PARENT account prior to turning in your Course Selection Form. April 20 th is the last day to submit initial elective course selections online. June 12 th is the last day to make schedule changes with your counselor.

16 3. Click on Search 4. A new screen will appear showing all courses offered Start by clickig Add New A new screen will appear showing all the elective, PE, Math and English courses offered at CVMS. 17 5. Select your courses by clicking on the course titles for *English *PE *Math *Elective As you select your courses, they will appear here
18 6. Make sure you select all of the classes you wish to take and check titles. Check Titles. To remove a course, the red x button will remove the request
19 List your 6 choices in order of preference on your Course Selection Form. If you apply for Adapted PE Aide, check Adapted PE Aide on the Course Selection form, and sign up for General PE online. Counselors will change your schedule once your application is approved. Course selections will not be officially recognized without a parent/guardian signature on the contract. Schedule changes will not be made to accommodate teacher requests, period requests, or extracurricular and athletic activities.
20 Remember... Your Course Registration Contracts are due on Monday, April 20 th to your science teacher or the counseling office. Make sure you have selected your elective choices online prior to this day. See your counselor if you have any questions!
