Psychology Major and Psychology Program Overview Recent Improvements Expected Outcomes and Results Plans for Further Improvement
Psychology Major and Psychology Overview Psychology is the science concerned with the understanding of behavior and mental processes. A major in psychology provides students with (1) a useful foundation for further study at the graduate level, leading to various careers in psychology, or to study in the health professions and social work; (2) skills related to employment at the baccalaureate level for the pursuit of careers in mental health services, industry, human services or areas where the knowledge of behavior would be deemed beneficial; and (3) a sound preparation for describing, understanding, predicting, and controlling the events in their own lives. Students who obtain an advanced degree have a growing range of new opportunities for employment in medical settings, sports, business, the military, as well as private practice, university teaching, and research.
Psychology Major and Comprehensive Program Overview The University offers a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at 10 primary locations. The University also offers psychology courses at all Troy University locations or via ecampus to support the general studies program.

Psychology Major and Recent Improvements Based on prior assessment activities over the past three years, the Psychology Major and Comprehensive programs have implemented several improvements which include: Continuation and growth of an annual state and regional Psychology Conference to highlight student and faculty research Development of a common statistics exam to assess student learning in this area Faculty and student involvement in federal and state grants Redesigned the Psychology Major to be more representative of the field. Rather than have students take courses from one long list, students are now required to take courses from each of three major areas of the field: Natural Science Social Science Applied Psychology This strengthens the students overall learning of the discipline.
Psychology Major and Expected Outcomes (including student learning outcomes) Our undergraduate psychology major and comprehensive program currently have two assessments that make up a total of five* Expected Outcomes (EOs). We use a capstone exam selected by faculty members in psychology as well as a standardized statistics exam. The following graphs and charts display frequency information about the number of TROY students who have taken the national proficiency exam in 2007, 2008, and After basic headcount information is presented, an analysis will be shown for overall performance on this exam as well as performance on individual subscores. * A research Student Learning Outcome was added Spring 2010.

Further analyze our data and create our own University norms for the capstone exam. Plans based on student learning outcome data Ensure students take statistics and research methods before senior seminar which would allow for greater comprehension of material covered in this course (EO 1, 2 & 3).
