3 Program Overview The University offers a Bachelor of Science in Sport & Fitness Management on the Troy Campus and through ecampus. The purpose of the SFM program is to provide students educational experiences seeking an interdisciplinary approach to the fields of sport/exercise, marketing, and management with business, management, and administrative skills from a sport/fitness perspective.

4 Recent Improvements Based on prior assessment activities, the SFM program has implemented several improvements, including revising questions on the capstone examination selected by faculty and revising internship materials required in the internship packet.

5 Expected Outcomes & Assessment Methods Expected Outcomes Course (1) Students will posses the knowledge and skills required for a successful career in sport and fitness management. SFM Capstone Examination selected by faculty (2) Students will develop skills in effectively communicating with client populations, understanding basic motivation behind human behavior, understanding of sport and fitness related service delivery systems, and developing strategies for intervention in human behavior problems. KHP 4490 Internship in SFM (3) Sport and fitness management graduates will work as a professional and/or gain admission into a graduate program. Graduating Senior Survey (4) Graduates will express satisfaction with their knowledge and skills to handle a management position in sports or fitness. Graduating Senior Survey

Benning/eCampus Dr. Robert Mathner, Assistant Professor, Troy Campus Dr. Lou Tomasi, Assistant Professor, Columbus/Ft. Benning/eCampus Meeting dates include: January 2010, February 2010 New capstone course KHP 4443 will be used to derive new PLOs and SLOs. The course will include portfolios and mock interviews in which students must pass in order to intern. New course (KHP 4499) Seminar in Sport will be used as a course which prepares students for jobs in sport and fitness management. Assessments will be used to collect data for PLOs and SLOs. Undergraduate and Graduate curriculums are seeking COSMA accreditation. Capstone examination is under review to be revised to meet current course objectives.

7 Program Level Expected Outcomes (including student learning outcomes) 2006, 2007, Ten (10) students will complete the B.S. in Sport & Fitness Management degree each year. The department has exceeded this number for the past 3 years at the Troy Campus. More students are expected to graduate ecampus in the next 3 years. 2006: 19 students 2007: 24 students 2008: 33 students ecampus 2006: 3 students 2007: 1 student 2008: 5 students 70% of students will score 60% or higher on the capstone examination selected by faculty. 2006: 83% (10 of 12) students scored 60% or higher 2007: 60% (6 of 12) students scored 60% or higher 2008: 79% (15 of 19) students scored 60% or higher ecampus 2006: 78% (7 of 9) students scored 60% or higher 2007: 100% (9 of 9) students scored 60% or higher 2008: 100% (7 of 7) students scored 60% or higher
