White PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: The Department of Counseling and Behavioral Sciences, responding to the mission of Our Lady of Holy Cross College and the philosophy of the Marianites of Holy Cross, offers Associate of Science degrees in Addiction Counseling and Juvenile Counseling, Bachelor of Science degrees in Addiction Counseling, Applied Behavioral Sciences, Psychology, and Social Counseling, and a Masters of Arts degree in Counseling with concentrations in Community, Marriage and Family, and School Counseling. In addition, we offer an Early Entry program in Counseling which allows students who are in the Social Counseling degree program and who desire a graduate degree in counseling to enter the graduate program in Counseling during what would be their senior year of Baccalaureate Studies. The department s faculty strives to insure that our students have a foundation in the general education offerings and through the content courses in behavioral sciences. Our individual mission is to impact social change within specific professional areas of practice as well as within American social systems. Graduates of the department are able to implement our mission by applying academic knowledge and expertise in a variety of institutional, agency, community, and education settings. STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES: Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree, graduates will be able to: SLO ASSESSMENTS PROFICIENCY BENCHMARK (1) Capstone 70% on the Examination examination 1. Demonstrate knowledge of the foundations, history, philosophy, and trends in the field of Psychology (3) Psychological History Article Review

Demonstrate knowledge of ethical and multicultural issues in the field of Psychology (2) Abnormal Psychology Research 3. Demonstrate awareness and comprehension of a variety of models of interaction and treatment in the field of Psychology 4. Demonstrate ability to design and conduct research projects including data collection, data analysis, and the production of written reports of a professional style and quality 5. Demonstrate comprehension and utilization of interpersonal interviewing skills (1) Capstone Examination (2) Abnormal Psychology Research (3) Psychological History Research (5) Psychological Research Project (1) Capstone Examination 70% on the examination 70% on the examination ASSESSMENTS: Assessment 1: Capstone Examination Outcomes: 1, 2, 3 & 5 Benchmark: successfully score 70% on the examination. in COU 408 Advanced Interviewing and Counseling are required to complete a capstone examination concerning psychological theory and intervention skills. This examination is scored on a. Assessment 2: Abnormal Psychology Research Outcomes: 2 & 4 Benchmark: successfully score.

3 Page 3 of 5 in PSY 405 Abnormal Psychology are required to complete a scholarly research paper including a literature review on an issue of abnormal psychology. This research paper is scored on a. Assessment 3: Psychological History Article Review Outcomes: 1 & 4 Benchmark: successfully score. in PSY 413 History and Systems of Psychology are required to complete an article review. The selected article must be from the professional journal History of Psychology. This review is scored on a. Assessment 4: Psychological Outcomes: 2, 3 & 5 Benchmark: successfully score. in PSY 415 Psychological Tests and Measurements must compile a portfolio including the results of all successfully completed psychological tests over the semester. This portfolio is scored on a. Assessment 5: Psychological Research Project Outcomes: 4 Benchmark: successfully score. in PSY 490 Research are required to complete a psychological research project, including a successful proposal to the Human Subjects Protection Review Board. This project includes both the completion of the experiment as well as the associated literature review. This project is scored on a. Assessment 6: Surveys Course evaluations, exit surveys and post-graduation surveys are not tied to specific outcomes but are utilized to acquire qualitative data on perceptions of the program and indicate any areas of growth that may require program modifications. LOCATION: Department of Counseling and Behavioral Sciences DISSEMINATION/DISCUSSION: This information is disseminated and discussed in department faculty meetings, Academic and Curriculum Council, and general college faculty meetings. It is reported to SACS, CACREP, and the general community via a link on the OLHCC web page. Results:

5 Page 5 of 5 Course evaluations during the Academic Year were found to be generally favorable. 11 students in the Bachelor of Science in Psychology program graduated in the Academic Year. The exit surveys were collected, evaluated, and found to be favorable. MODIFICATIONS: A. Fall 2013 Based on data, no modifications will be made at this time. B. Spring 2014 who do not meet benchmarks will meet with their advisors throughout the following semester to assist them in keeping up with the work in their classes.
