5 What Classes Should I Take When? 4-YEAR SUGGESTED COURSE SEQUENCE The 15 to Finish campaign is designed to encourage students to take a full course load each semester to help them earn their degrees faster. The premise behind 15 to Finish is to promote the completion of 30 credits per year so that a typical bachelor's degree can be completed in 4 years. Below is a suggested Human Development and Family Studies course plan that follows 15 to Finish. However, most of our students find that following this suggested 4-year plan can be tough, which is why we highly recommend coming to advisement every semester. Many of our students complete this degree while employed full- or part-time, with children at home, or have other obligations that allow our HDFS students to benefit from plans different than what is below. Remember, this is only one suggested path to obtaining your degree in HDFS work with your advisor to set out a plan that works for you. ENG 101 HDFS 202 Fine Arts Math 120 YEAR 1 Fall ENG 102 PSY 101 NUTR 121 COM 101, 217, or 329 YEAR 1 - Spring CH 201 HDFS 201 SOC 101 Group A Science YEAR 2 Fall CH 202 HDFS 231 YEAR 2 - Spring HDFS 431 A, B, or C ENG 321 CH 203 YEAR 3 Fall HDFS 391 HDFS 436 YEAR 3 - Spring Capstone YEAR 4 Fall HDFS 438 HDFS 470 YEAR 4 - Spring *RPE= REQUIRED PROGRAM ELECTIVE

6 Potential Careers for HDFS Graduates "What can I do with a degree in HDFS?" HDFS graduates are unique in that they receive training in two important interrelated disciplines Human Development Across The Lifespan and Family Studies. Students with degrees in HDFS enter careers in a variety of sectors, including work in the social service arena, business and industry, health professions, education, journalism, publishing, public administration, criminal justice and corrections, and government and international affairs. HDFS students who take specified courses can apply for national certification as Certified Family Life Educators, available through the National Council on Family Relations (www.ncfr.org). A degree in HDFS is also excellent preparation for further graduate work in HDFS or related fields including marriage and family therapy, career counseling, school counseling, occupational therapy, psychology, sociology, business, education, or public health.
