2 Themes and Selection INFORMATION FOR ENTRY The theme for this year s Greenham Common Open is Portraiture. Typically this refers to images of people, either individually or as a group and is a practice that dates back to cave painting. Historically portraiture has documented royal dynasties, social hierarchies and changes in fashion, it is also associated with commerce, wealth and celebrity. With the flourishing of social networks, portraiture particularly the selfie has mushroomed as an arts practice. Contemporary approaches to portraiture are encouraged. New Greenham Arts is based on the de-commissioned American nuclear air base at Greenham Common. Our current visual arts strategy explores the geographic, political and emotional themes drawn from the significance of its location. The exhibition aims to show work in a diverse range of media. The selection panel will be looking for innovation and crafted execution within the chosen art form, with particular emphasis on works that reflect these themes and concerns. Eligibility Open to established and emerging UK-based artists working in a variety of media including lens-based methods. How to apply Artists may submit up to a maximum of three works to be considered for selection. There is a 10 fee for each work submitted. This fee will not be reimbursed should an artwork not be selected for exhibition. Fees should be paid when submitting the application form cheques made payable to The Corn Exchange (Newbury) Trust. Please label all entries and title any attachments clearly with your name and title of work. Please ensure entries are duplicates and not original work. A current CV must be included with the application. Entry Terms, Conditions and ProceduresP 1. Artists may submit up to three artworks in any of the following media: painting, drawing, ceramics, collage, assemblage, textiles, sculpture, printing, photography (traditional and computer generated) and moving image. 2. Due to limited storage space, no actual work is to be included with the application. Accepted formats for entry include: slides, CDs, DVDs, photographs or attachments. Slides etc. submitted for selection can only be returned if accompanied by a stamped addressed envelope. 3. Applications will only be accepted if accompanied by the appropriate entry fee. If entry is ed, payment must be sent by cheque to the address stated above. 4. Any entries and payment received after the deadline will not be processed. 5. All application forms must be signed and dated. 6. All artwork must be original work produced by the artist and completed after 1 January The decision of the selection panel is final and binding. 8. The Corn Exchange & New Greenham Arts takes no responsibility for processing inaccurately or incorrectly completed entry forms. The artist retains their copyright but in entering the competition the artist agrees that an image of their artwork and/or artist statement may be used for press and publicity purposes in connection with the exhibition. 2

3 INFORMATION FOR SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS CHOSEN FOR THE GREENHAM COMMON OPEN EXHIBITION Delivery/Collection of Work The artist is responsible for delivery and collection of selected work. Any posted work must be accompanied by return postage. Work must be delivered on 28 th /29 th August and collected on 11 th /12 th November Insurance While New Greenham Arts endeavours to ensure safe handling of artwork, insurance of work against loss or damage is at the artist s discretion and is the responsibility of the artist. Works for Sale The gallery takes a 20% commission plus VAT on sales of work. Please ensure the sale price provided is inclusive of commission. Prize One artist will be selected for a solo exhibition in late 2015 in the New Greenham Arts gallery should the artist have a suitable body of work. Some work may be exhibited at The Corn Exchange Newbury, but this is not guaranteed. Terms, Conditions and Procedures for Successful Applicants 1. Selected work must be available for the whole duration of the exhibition: 11 th September 6 th November All 2D works, where appropriate, must be properly framed, glazed and mirror plated for secure hanging to the wall. Clip frames will not be acceptable (i.e. glass and hardboard frames with metal clips). If required, special hanging requirements should be discussed well in advance of exhibition. 3. Each artwork selected should be clearly labelled with artist s name, contact number, title of work, media, price for sale and instructions for hanging if necessary. 4. All video and installation work must be accompanied by equipment (such as DVD player, projector etc.) as required. 5. Plinths are available for 3D work; however the gallery reserves the right to request the artist supply any additional display equipment. 6. Artists must ensure their artworks are delivered and collected within the time specified (see Important Dates below). There will be a storage charge of 10 per day for artworks collected after the specified dates and after 4 weeks any artworks not collected will be disposed of. Any storage fees will still apply even if the work is then collected. Any disposal fees will be charged to the artist as well as the storage fees. 7. Every care will be taken to ensure safety and security of all artworks whilst in the possession of New Greenham Arts. Its staff and agents will not be responsible for any loss or damage. New Greenham Arts will not insure any artworks submitted to this exhibition. 8. The curators have the final decision on hanging and presentation of any work. 9. The Corn Exchange & New Greenham Arts reserve the right to use images of submitted work to publicise. 3
