2 Communication Skills for the Business Office I prepares students for employment in entry level positions requiring skills, knowledge and attitudes associated with business communications, formatting correspondence and projecting a positive image in the workplace. Students will gain competency in sentence structure, basic rules of grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, number expression, correspondence and principles of presenting information electronically. 2 I. INTRODUCTION AND ORIENTATION A. Observe CCROP and district rules, regulations and policies. B. Discuss course requirements and grading policy. C. Demonstrate appropriate use of materials and equipment. D. Discuss and implement safety practices and observe all safety rules. 1. Read, comprehend and follow safety instructions. 2. Pass safety exam. 3. Identify hazards in the workplace. 4. Demonstrate awareness of safe lifting. 6 II. ESSENTIAL EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS A. CAREER PREPARATION STANDARDS 1. Personal skill development a. Demonstrate promptness, attend class regularly and notify of absences. b. Demonstrate good personal hygiene and appropriate professional attire. c. Project a positive and cooperative attitude. d.
