5 1 Overview This chapter includes the software, hardware and third-party software products that must be installed for fsaatlas. These requirements should be met on the server(s) and/or client machines prior to the initial installation of fsaatlas. Product overview on page 1-1 Third party software components on page 1-2 Supported operating systems on page 1-2 Product overview fsaatlas is a web-based visa case management application used by international student and scholar advisors. fsaatlas helps the institutions to manage the international student/ scholar office more efficiently and effectively. With fsaatlas your international office can maintain SEVIS compliance, work more effectively to attract and retain international students and scholars, and increase productivity and service across all areas of responsibility. fsaatlas provides a number of key features and functions, including: Record Navigator: A one-stop data interface for complete access to international enrollment information. You can produce immigration documents and maintain a case-management history for each student and scholar. Task & Appointment Manager: A task and scheduling utility that integrates with student/scholar records. SEVIS batching functionality: Intuitive SEVIS reporting tools that allow you to maintain SEVIS compliance without extra data-entry. Report Writer: A customizable, self-service, report engine that supports full database auditing. Campus-wide data integration: import student/scholar data and configuration settings from any system with CSV or XML output. A number of changes to the implementation process of fsaatlas have been introduced in this version: The existing server utility (ServerUtil.exe) has been updated in this release. The Server Utility has a new tab RTI Access that is used to collect the required data for RTI XBAP application. March 2011 fsaatlas Overview

6 Third party software components The following third party software components are required by the fsaatlas Server: Third party software components Personal Certificate and Related Software Code Signing Certificate Web Browser Active PDF Toolkit Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or later Code Signing Certificate Description Necessary for batch uploads to SEVIS. Needed to run RTI Access Needed to run the application. Used by fsaatlas to generate PDF files. Needed to read PDF files generated by the Record Navigator and the SEVIS Management console. Required for RTI Access. The following third party software components are required on the Client machine: Third party software components Web Browser Microsoft Office Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or later Code Signing Certificate Description Needed to run the application. For viewing spreadsheets created by the Report Writer. Needed to work with RTI Access. Needed to read PDF files generated by the Record Navigator and the SEVIS Management console. Required for RTI Access. Supported operating systems This section details the supported operating systems for the Server and Client machines. 7 2 Software Dependencies This chapter includes the SunGard Higher Education softwares that are compatible with fsaatlas 7.6. SunGard higher education software compatibilities fsaatlas Data Integration Tool Server and escholar are SunGard Higher Education softwares that are compatible with fsaatlas. fsaatlas data integration tool This tool must be installed on the same server on which fsaatlas is installed. Implementation of fsaatlas Data Integration Tool includes installing and configuring this tool to work with fsaatlas 7.2, 7.2.1, 7.3, or 7.3.5, 7.5, 7.6, Banner 7.3, later versions of Banner 7.x and Banner 8.x. Successful, quick deployment of this tool requires IT personnel, a Banner/Oracle DBA expert, and the fsaatlas advising staff to work together on configuration, user setup, and data migration policies. Once this is set up, a scheduled task runs and creates an XML file that is compatible with the fsaatlas Campus DataLink System. This data is then available in the DataLink Manager for import into fsaatlas. escholar Prior to the installation of escholar, you should confirm that all required software has been installed on the escholar server, which also includes the fsaatlas server. Once finished with setting up the pre-requisites, you may then download the application from the SunGard Customer Support Center website and begin installation. The major steps of installation are: 1. Download the application from the customer support website. 2. Install the department portion of the application. 3. Required if connecting to a Banner source This is not needed if connecting to an XML source file only. These files are downloadable from the Oracle website ( Oracle 11g Client Tools Optional This is not necessary for running the fsaatlas Data Integration Tool. These client tools should be a version that is compatible with the Microsoft SQL Server on the database server. Required A new escholar database is created during new installations, as well as you need to be able to access the fsaatlas database. SQL Server should be set to mixed authentication (both SQL Server and Windows). SSL Certificate 128-bit or 256-bit encryption supported (256-bit recommended) Optional, but highly recommended This certificate encrypts information that passes between the visitor server and the department server. 13 3 Database Requirements This chapter includes the supported relational databases for fsaatlas 7.6 Supported RDBs on page 3-1 Other SQL server features on page 3-2 Supported RDBs This section discusses the various RDBs supported by fsaatlas. Using SQL server 2005 standard edition SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition (with Processor License) is recommended under the following circumstances: The server to host the SQL Server 2005 meets the Hardware Requirements listed above. The school s system administration policy does not require using some of the features that are not supported by the Standard Edition. Using SQL server 2005 enterprise edition SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition (with Processor License) is recommended under the following circumstances: The server to host the SQL Server 2005 has the hardware specification only supported by SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. The other applications databases require additional Hardware Requirements that are not supported by the SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition. 15 4 fsaatlas Server Requirements This chapter discusses the following topics which include understanding the minimum set of supported hardware, software, and other components necessary for new installations of fsaatlas. Remember, that as your international population and data expand, your fsaatlas system requirements may need to be increased (for example, RAM and hard drive space). Windows 2003 Server Note When installing Windows Server 2003, be sure to install IIS, which is no longer automatically installed, as well as enable ASP.NET. 17 Disk space and configuration An 80 GB or larger hard drive is required, preferably with a SCSI interface. Browsers and plug ins The following table describes the various browser and plug-in requirements, and the description. Class 1 digital certificate. The certificate that has been tested and verified to work with fsaatlas: VeriSign Class 1 Digital ID for Secure Certificate. VMware environment. This is an optional requirement. Database requirement Microsoft SQL Server 2005 SP3 (Service Pack 3) with per processor license. If the Database server and Web Server are separate machines; SQL Client Tools must be installed n the Web Server. These client tools should be a version that is compatible with the Microsoft SQL Server on the database server. This is required for fsaatlas database server. SQL Server should be set to mixed authentication (both SQL Server and Windows). When installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005, you are asked about installing the Database Engine, Analysis Services, Reporting Services, Notification Services and Integration Services features. The only feature required for fsaatlas is the Database Engine. To know more about Using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, and Enterprise Edition, refer to Supported RDBs. 19 5 fsaatlas Workstation Requirements This chapter discusses the following topics which include understanding the list of supported hardware, software, and other components necessary for fsaatlas to be viewed on client machines. CPU size on page 5-1 Memory on page 5-1 Disk space and configuration on page 5-1 Operating system and components on page 5-1 Browsers and plug ins on page 5-2 CPU size The CPU specifications required by the workstation are: Pentium IV CPU, running 800 MHz or higher Internet connection to fsaatlas server (e.g. 10/100 Ethernet card or wireless connection) Memory At least 512 MB of RAM is required. Disk space and configuration At least 512 MB of RAM is required. Operating system and components Windows 2000, XP, 2003, or Vista with latest service packs. 20 Browsers and plug ins The following table describes the various browser and plug-in requirements. The Web browser is needed to run the fsaatlas web application. fsaatlas is also compatible with Mozilla Firefox 3.6.x browser. Note: IE 7.0 is supported with Windows Vista. Adobe Acrobat Reader 4.0 or later to read PDF files generated by the Record Navigator and the SEVIS Management console. Microsoft Office 2003 (Excel, Word) or later with the latest service pack(s). Needed to work with RTI Access. Installing the Microsoft PIAs is required for RTI Access functionality. A Windows Presentation Foundation error will display if this is not installed on the client machine. The version required depends on the version of MS Office which is installed on the client machine. 21 6 Network Requirements This chapter includes the various firewall and port settings, recommendations for SSL, and security for fsaatlas. Firewall and port settings on page 6-1 SSL and security recommendations on page 6-2 Firewall and port settings Many schools install fsaatlas behind a firewall. This will not hamper the operation of fsaatlas. There are a few settings that must be configured to allow the application to communicate with SEVIS when it is operating behind a firewall, however. The ports listed in the following table should be open on the firewall protecting the fsaatlas web server so that the application can function properly: Connection Type Required Port Notes HTTP Inbound 80 Required for unencrypted, non SSL/HTTPS web server traffic. HTTP Outbound 80 Required for accessing the SEVIS XML schema, a required background task in the SEVIS process. FTP Inbound 80 Optional; used if sending DataLink XML files to the fsaatlas application server via FTP. HTTPS Inbound 443 Required for SSL/HTTPS communications between client machines and the fsaatlas web server. HTTPS Outbound 443 Required for communications with the SEVIS system. SMTP Outbound 25 or the port number set in the Application Setting Optional; this value is required to send to students only if the SMTP relay is located in a location outside of the Local Area Network (LAN) or DMZ on which the fsaatlas web server resides. 22 SSL and security recommendations fsaatlas can run over secure HTTP connection via SSL. fsaatlas Knowledge Base makes no specific implementation recommendations about this process, and does not provide instructions for setting up SSL with IIS.
