1 Expert Program 2017 Why this program? Many organisations are presented with the challenges to reflect the needs of society and its customers. In response to the developments in big data and in their respective industries, data is leading in the developments of new opportunities at strategic, tactical and operational levels. These developments are calling for well qualified and capable data scientists. The program aims at educating data science-driven entrepreneurs who have the capability to create, develop and market data technologies, conduct research, and present results in a clear, nontechnical manner Participants will be skilled in applying the data revolution to develop innovative, value-adding and sustainable business activities within existing corporations and startups. Learning how to translate innovative, data driven ideas into concrete project requirements, develop technological solutions, launch a business venture and assess its effectiveness. 1

2 Program objectives Participants make sense of data and have the ability to articulate their discoveries and recommendations to those not schooled in the world of data in the frame of VIVAT and decision processes. Business alignment Enterpreneurship Participants are able to monetize the flood of data that is generated in this digital age, for example by exploiting the economic value of personal data, developing novel ways to commercially exploit actionable insights from data streams, discovering novel marketing models, etc. Used cases Science Knowledge & Skills In data engineering and data analytics with the business acumen to explore data sets, gather actionable insights, visualize results and communicate meaningful findings taking into consideration underlying legal and ethical issues. Candidate Requirements Candidates of the postgraduate Science program show high motivation to learn combining generalist thinking with expert thinking, and formulating and solving complex problems in a data driven environment. The candidates have a sense for entrepreneurship. Their profile can be typified as Technical expertise: the starting point is expertise in some scientific discipline at Master level Curiosity: intrinsic desire to discover, distill, and model a problem down to a clear set of concepts and hypotheses that can be tested Story telling: intrinsic motivation to develop the skill to use data to tell a story and to be able to communicate it effectively Creativity: desire to develop the ability to look at a problem in different, creative ways 2

3 Timeline Group 32 weeks (8 Modules) January 27, 2017 December 2017 Expert Program Duration: 1 year Language: 100% English Dutch is possible if needed in most cases Format: approx. 32 premises in class sessions. In addition, self study approx. 8 hours/week. Assessment: individual or groups assignment after each module or set of modules. Final evaluation is based on the reports (of the assignments) and presentation. Diploma: Successful participants will receive an official certificate from JADS. 3

Admission requirements Bachelor or Master degree in relevant field; At least three years of relevant business work experience; English language proficiency. Tuition Fee ,-- The fee covers the whole programme including courses and exams, registration and use of JADS facilities. 4
