Customer Creation and Pre-Installation Provisioning Customer Creation and Pre-Installation Provisioning Best Practices This Best Practices document will show you how to create a new customer. Once a new customer has been created, you can set up the system devices prior to sending them to the client s location. We call this Pre-Installation Provisioning. By taking care of this in your office, you can insure a quality setup that will meet your customer s installation requirements. S e c u r e - i H o s t e d V i d e o S o l u t i o n

System Configuration Best Practices Every Secure-i account contains a few basic components including an Axis camera or encoder, edge storage (either a Lenovo NAS or SD Card inserted into the camera), and a PoE Switch* to power the Axis camera and connect it to the customers network. *For single camera applications without a NAS, a PoE Injector can be used to power the camera instead of a PoE switch since only 1 port is needed. Recommended part number for SD Card SDSDQXL-064G-AFFPA Recommended part number for NAS 70A69000NA New Installation Should Consist of: o 1 PoE (Power over Ethernet) switch o 1 NAS (up to 6 cameras per NAS. For systems over 6 cameras, add an additional NAS) o o or 1 Micro SD Card per camera # - Axis IP Cameras New Analog Conversion Systems Consist of: o 1 - PoE switch o 1 NAS (up to 6 cameras per NAS. For systems over 6 cameras, add an additional NAS) o o o or 1 Micro SD Card per encoder 1 Axis Encoder # - Axis IP cameras, as needed The PoE switch is connected to the existing switch on the user s network with a Cat 5e cable. Each PoE Switch has two groups of RJ45 connectors. Half of the ports are PoE, and the other half are not. Cameras and encoders are connected to the powered PoE ports. The NAS and the connection to the user s existing switch are connected to the non-powered ports. Secure-i System Technical Notes User Portal The User portal is the web page customers use to view their video. This portal URL is custom for each partner (e.g. Secure-i Partner Portal The Secure-i Partner Portal is the web page that allows Partners Installers to configure and manage Secure-i Accounts. Go to and click Partner Login at the top right. Maximum Number of Cameras - Maximum number of cameras Per Location - 12 (The maximum number can be lower depending on the upload speed on the user s network. This can be determined by using Secure-i s Discovery Tool.) 1

System Health Monitoring The Secure-i system health check monitors the system once every 60 seconds. If you have set up notifications on the system, it will notify the designated parties, the Partner and/or the system owner if there is an issue detected. If you do not setup notifications, no notifications will be sent. Cloud Storage Cloud storage is first-in, first-out. A 7-day subscription will allow a user to go back 7 days; a 30-day subscription will allow a user to go back 30 days. Live View Resolution - Live view resolution is 800 x frames per second. Cloud Recording Resolution The standard resolution for recording to the cloud is 320 x frames per second. Standard Recording Configuration For Secure-i s Hosted Video, the standard configuration for recording is 24/7 to the cloud and 24/7 at the edge to either a NAS or SD Card.. Motion Detection Axis motion detection 2.1 can be used to trigger motion detection with the system. This application produces reliable results indoors or outdoors only in areas with low traffic during scheduled detection times. In addition to the standard recording configurations above, motion detection triggers can be enabled during scheduled periods, as required. Edge Recording Resolution By default Secure-i records to the NAS/SD Card at the maximum resolution of the camera you have selected for the system up to. This can be changed by modifying the Edge Recording Stream Profile As an example, for the M3004 camera, that would be 1280 x frames per second. NAS Recorders Needed Per Site If you are using NAS for edge storage, you will need one (1) NAS per 6 cameras. For installations with more than 6 cameras, a second NAS should be added. Powering IP Devices - All IP cameras on the system are to be PoE, Power over Ethernet. IP Camera Wire Runs - IP Camera runs will be Cat 5e. Cat 5 is a twisted pair cable consisting of eight wires, forming four pairs of twisted copper wires, and is used with RJ-45 plugs and sockets. The Ethernet standard distance limitation is 328 feet or 90 meters without a repeater. Pre-Installation Provisioning Provisioning is the process of preparing the system for installation. Provisioning should take place in the office in a controlled environment. By provisioning the system in the office, you make the onsite installation more efficient. In Provisioning, you will: Set up all system components on a workbench 2

Power the devices and connect them to the Internet Register the cameras Verify the camera firmware version Configure 24/7 cloud and NAS recording Name the devices Pre-Installation Provisioning Preparation Pre-Installation Provisioning consists of setting up the equipment to be installed, registering the cameras, loading any needed firmware and software to the cameras, configuring recordings, configuring schedules and configuring alarm. To start the Provisioning process, you should have the following equipment and information: A network connection with access to the Internet An open RJ45 port in the router connected to the network Cat 5e cables 1 For connecting PoE switch to the router (non-poe port) 1 For connecting NAS to PoE switch (non-poe port) 1 For each camera to be included in the system (PoE port) Computer with access to the network Java loaded and installed on the computer A file folder on the computer with Axis Motion 2.1 Equipment Setup This is where you want to setup all the devices that are to be installed at the client s location. Check to make sure the computer you will be using for this process is connected to the network you are using for this process. o o o o o Connect the PoE switch, via Cat 5e cable, to your network connection and power it up. Connect Cat 5e cables to the cameras and the PoE ports on your PoE switch. Connect Cat 5e cable to the NAS and a non-poe port on the switch. Power up the NAS. It takes approximately 1 minute for the NAS to fully power up. You need to wait until the light on the front of the NAS is solid before proceeding. You can also connect your computer to the PoE switch via Cat 5e cable. This insures that you are working from the same network and you will access the internet from the same connection as the system. 3

Login to The Partner Portal Now that the equipment is set up and on the network you are ready to start the provisioning process. Go to the partner portal, which is located at: Equipment Registration The first task is to register the cameras and NAS that will be installed. This process registers the camera to the user account. Once inside the portal, click on the Smart Setup Tool button on the Partner Menu. As stated earlier, it s important that you have Java installed on your computer in order for this camera registration process to work. You can verify you are running the latest version of Java here or go to When you get to the Smart Setup Tool, you will see a pop up screen that asks, Do you want to run this application? Click on accept the risk, than click on Run. Once you click Run, you are ready to find the devices on the network. 4

Step 1 Step 2 Select the owner of the registering devices from the drop down box. Select the username of your customer that was added during New Customer Account Creation. Click on Start discovering devices on your network by clicking on the link. You will see the tool search the network for the cameras and NAS that you have connected to the network. Configure Each Camera Under Discovered Devices you will see all of the devices that are on the network. Look at the first camera and you will notice that the camera model, serial number, and the mac address have been discovered for you. 5

Register The Cameras Now you are ready to complete the camera registration: o In the Secure-i Smart Setup Tool click Select and the camera section will turn yellow. This indicates the camera is ready to be registered. You want to do this for each camera, or check Select All if you wish to register all cameras. o After all of your cameras have been selected and each is highlighted in yellow, Click Register All Selected 6

You will now see that the devices are registered to the user. 7

If you aren t using a NAS, skip to section for instructions on mounting SD Cards Configuring The NAS To enable the NAS you must first run the Smart Setup Tool. Under Discovered Devices you should see the NAS. It will look something like ix2-00d0b8150be8. This is the model number and the serial number for the NAS. Click Local Access. This will open your web browser where you will see the NAS web interface. In some cases you will need to click Continue to reach the NAS software. In the upper Right hand corner of the screen you will see a gear. Click on the Gear to enter the NAS management page, then click All Features. 8

When the screen opens you will see Axis Video Hosting System. Click Axis Hosting systems. The next screen you will see is where you install the software. Click Install Axis Video Hosting System. Click Yes. 9

When the system software is loaded, you will see a screen that allows you to connect the NAS to the Axis Video Hosting System. It will tell you that AVHS is currently disabled. Click to enable. When you enable AVHS, a new screen will be shown. Once the system is enabled, you will need a username and password the next time you want to make changes to the NAS. 10

When AVHS is enabled, the next screen you see will contain the credentials for the system. IMPORTANT: WRITE DOWN THE AVHS SERIAL NUMBER AND THE OAK. You will not have the opportunity to retrieve this information again. A best practice is to copy this information to Note Pad as you will need this information later in this process. At this point, you can close the screen. IMPORTANT: WRITE DOWN THE AVHS SERIAL NUMBER AND THE OAK. 11

Return to Manage Devices and select the user account from the dropdown. Now simply scroll down: Click on Add Storage Device Paste in the Serial Number Paste in the OAK Name the Local Storage Device 12

Click Add Device. If you go back to the Manage Devices page and filter your User name, you will see that the NAS is now listed. At this point, you are done with the Partner Portal. To complete the configuration, you will now go to the User Portal on your company s website. Configuring The System In this stage of the Pre-Installation Provisioning process, you will go to the User Portal on your company s website. This is the portal that your clients will go to when they interact with the Hosted Video system. Below is an example of a customer User Portal. Enter username and password that you created for the customer and you will enter the hosted video web interface. You will see all of the cameras that you have registered for the site and the corresponding video. 13

Device Setup Once logged into the customer s portal, go to the Settings section of the User Account. You will see all the devices listed. Device Name = Name given to the device by the customer or installer. State = Tells the user if the system sees the devices as Connected or Not Connected. Device ID = Displays the MAC/Serial number of the device Site = Displays which site the device is in. Model = Displays the Model of the device. Version = Displays the Firmware version of the device. By clicking on either the Device Name or Device ID, the user will be taken to the setting specific for that device. 14

After any changes have been made, it is required to click the Save Changes button to update. Setting Up Recordings You will need to set up recordings for both cloud storage and Edge recordings. Scroll down to Scheduled and Triggered recordings. Scheduling Recording The Recordings table is where recordings are configured. Each camera or encoder will individually have to be configured to record. To access the Recording Profile for the selected camera, click the Scheduled and Triggered Recordings link. In the Scheduled and Triggered recording configuration section, the first table will be empty. This is where the profiles created will be stored once they have been created. 15

To create a recording profile for the device, first select when the device is going to record. By default, the Always Active button will be checked. This assumes 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If the user unchecks this button new options will appear, allowing the user to decide the hours and days the device will record. For each Schedule requirement, a new Recording Profile will need to be created. As a best practice you should record 24/7 to the NAS and the cloud. You can also layer Recording Profiles. Multiple Recording Profiles are supported on all devices. Naming Recording Profiles It is important that you name all of your recording profiles. If a recording profile is set to record based on motion, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to the Cloud, the name should somehow reflect that, 24/7 Motion Based Cloud. Once the recording profile settings have been saved, the options below will no longer be visible. (Creating descriptive names for the Recording Profiles is crucial if you want to remember what you have chosen.) The names for the Recording Profiles are completely at the digression of the user or installer, although if nothing has been entered, Default Recording will be used and the choices will not be visible. 16

The next step in the process is to choose the activation method that is appropriate for the Recording Profile: Schedule - The Camera will record continuously for the entire time frame entered into the Schedule section of the configuration table. Video Motion Detection or Motion based recording - The camera evaluates the amount of pixels that change in real-time to determine if motion is present. The camera will also add 5 seconds before the motion detection was activated and 5 seconds after motion is no longer detected. TO ENSURE THAT THE CUSTOMER DOESN T MISS ANY CRITICAL VIDEO THE BEST PRACTICE IS TO CONFIGURE 24/7 SCHEDULED RECORDING TO BOTH THE CLOUD AND THE EDGE. YOU CAN USE MOTION DETECTION AS A SUPPLIMENT TO THIS FOR EASY REVIEW, BUT THIS SHOULD BE DONE IN ADDITION TO 24/7 SCHEDULED RECORDING. Then choose the Stream Profile for your recording; this will determine the resolution and frame-rate of the recording. For cloud recording, choose Cloud Recording and for Edge recording, choose Edge Recording. The last step is to click Add Recording. When complete the configuration should look like this: Audio You will repeat this for each camera. Audio is now available as part of the Secure-i system Notifications The Secure-i system can notify users by if devices go offline or alarms are triggered. To configure notifications click the Settings tab, scroll down and click Notifications under the Messages Tab. 17

TO ENSURE NO CRITIAL VIDEO IS LOST, IT IS THE BEST PRACTISE TO ALWAYS CONFIGURE DEVICE-DISCONNECT NOTIFICATIONS SO THAT CAMERA FAILURE CAN BE FIXED PROACTIVLEY. Click Add Notification To configure the notification for device disconnect: Notify for? All Devices Notify When? Check Device Becomes Unreachable Notify How? Check the box , enter the users Address, and set Limit Notifications to: Unlimited. Leave the Days and Times at 24/7 as default Click Add Notification 18
