On the Backs of Women Film Private Hosting Guide Thank you for joining the movement of people providing women in Myanmar with access to microfinance. Your actions empower others with the opportunity they need to pull themselves out of poverty. $300 will provide an entrepreneur in Myanmar with a loan to start or expand a business. Help us by raising as much as you can, together we can make a difference! Use this document as a guide to host your own private screening or event. Get creative and see how much impact you can have. Step 1: Set your goal We are asking each screening to donate $300 to support an entrepreneur in Myanmar, but remember that this is YOUR event and YOUR goal. Your network of supporters is generally bigger than your think and often people can do much better than they think when it comes to fundraising. Set your target high and continue to raise it! Step 2: Create Fundraising Page If you haven t already, create a fundraising page through clicking on the following link: Include the date of your screening as the event date Set yourself a fundraising goal (remember that $300 will support an entrepreneur but you can support more set your target high). Personalise page with a photo and message to supporters about why you are supporting this campaign.
Step 3: Invite family, friends and colleagues & ask them to donate Create a Facebook event Create a Facebook page for your event and invite your friends In the description explain what the event is for and why you have decided to fundraise for ADC. family, friends, and colleagues Most people are afraid to ask others for help, but research shows that people are more willing to lend a hand than you might expect, all you need to do is ask. When asking people to support you, the more personal you can be, the better. If you ask a big group of people all at once, it is less likely you will get a response. When you make a general ask people are less likely to act because they assume that someone else will help instead. Speaking to these people in person or on the phone and asking them directly is the most effective. , however, is the easiest way to reach out to the whole group and include a link to your fundraising page. Include to following in your The organisation name (ADC) Why you are fundraising What you want them to do: Will you help me reach my goal by making a donation? A link to your fundraising page A link to backawoman.com Even if people can t make the event you should still encourage them to donate to your goal. Step 4: Getting your copy of the film Once you have set the date for your screening and started your fundraising campaign we will send you an with a YouTube link to the film and downloadable copy at least 3 days prior to the screening. If you need a copy of the film sooner or in a difference format please contact us at: info@adc.org.nz
Step 5: Host your event It is important to thank people for coming to support your event, remember that a thank-you can go a long way and will encourage people to support you in the future You may wish to make your event a donation on the door. This sets the expectation Prior to the screening it can be useful say a few words to remind people of the cause and purpose of the screening and encourage them to donate on the spot remember asking people face-to-face is most effective. Encourage people to spread the word, host their own screening or donate further at backawoman.com If you would like someone from ADC or Borderless to attend your event and say a few words then please get in touch at info@adc.org.nz Step 6: Ending your campaign Congratulations on completing your campaign! Your efforts have made a massive difference to the lives of those living in poverty. Spreading the ADC message about the benefits of microfinance is so valuable to us, so thank you! Say thank you to your supporters After your campaign you should take some time to thank the people that supported you and came to your screening. Whether this is by phone, , social media, or in person, anyoert ne who donated will appreciate your thanks. You should your donors and update them on the final results, and show how many women you were able to support. Step 7: Get others involved and increase your impact Know someone that would be keen to #BackAWoman and host a screening? Share the website Ask them to sign up to host a screening Or ask them to contact us directly at info@adc.org.nz
Step 8: Offline donations You might have some donations to your event that are offline particularly if you have a ticketed event or accept donations on the door. Please send all offline donations through your Everyday Hero page or send directly to: ADC s Kiwibank account: If you have any questions please contact us at info@adc.org.nz Examples Example Facebook event description Hi Friends, Come and spend the evening at my place for dinner and a movie and help me fundraise to support women entrepreneurs in Myanmar! We will be watching On the Backs of Women, an award winning short film that tells the story of 3 entrepreneurs in Myanmar and how microfinance has empowered them to pull themselves and their families out of poverty. ADC is a registered charity in New Zealand that supports microfinance. I was drawn to ADC because microfinance is a sustainable solution to poverty. Just $300 is enough for an entrepreneur in Myanmar to start or grow a business and support their family. Help me support ADC by making a donation to my fundraising page. The process is fast, easy and secure. I truly appreciate any support you can provide. This is a great cause! Anything you can give toward the night will make a big difference. Even if you can t make it please consider donating. Visit backawoman.com to join the movement and for more information. Thank you!
Example s: Family Here is an example of what an to your family might look like: Hi Smith Family, I m writing to let you know that I ve recently started a fundraising campaign ADC and would love your support. I am hosting a screening of the film On the Backs of Women at my house on 22 June at 6pm and having people over for pizza, I d love you to come along. Find out more about the campaign at backawoman.com ADC is a New Zealand based organisation fighting against poverty through microfinance. They support entrepreneurs in developing countries to start and establish small businesses to help lift themselves and their families out of poverty. This is a cause close to my heart. I ll be asking pretty much everyone I know to check out my page and donate if they can, but I wanted to ask my family first. Will you help me reach my goal of $300 by making a donation? You can check out my fundraising page by clicking this link! Any support you can give will mean so much to me. Even if you can t make it on the night, I would love if you could donate. Thanks for reading and helping me fundraise for ADC. Love, John s to other groups is also a great way to ask coworkers or classmates to donate. Here is an example. Dear colleagues, I m fundraising for my favourite nonprofit organisation, ADC. ADC is a New Zealand based organisation fighting against poverty through microfinance. They support entrepreneurs in developing countries to start and establish small businesses to help lift themselves and their families out of poverty. I will be hosting a screening of the short film On the Backs of Women over lunch this on Wednesday in the Board Room at 12:30, which highlights the
inspiring stories of 3 women supported by ADC. Come along and show your support. To find out more you can watch the trailer here or visit backawoman.com. I want to raise $600 to support 2 entrepreneurs in Myanmar. Anything that you can give will help! Please check out my fundraising page by clicking this link! Thanks for helping and have a good day! Sarah
