5 Alabama Plan: Transform 2020 Introduction Every school has its own story to tell. The context in which teaching and learning takes place influences the processes and procedures by which the school makes decisions around curriculum, instruction, and assessment. The context also impacts the way a school stays faithful to its vision. Many factors contribute to the overall narrative such as an identification of stakeholders, a description of stakeholder engagement, the trends and issues affecting the school, and the kinds of programs and services that a school implements to support student learning. The purpose of the Executive Summary (ES) is to provide a school with an opportunity to describe in narrative form the strengths and challenges it encounters. By doing so, the public and members of the school community will have a more complete picture of how the school perceives itself and the process of self-reflection for continuous improvement. This summary is structured for the school to reflect on how it provides teaching and learning on a day to day basis. SY Page 2

13 Alabama Plan: Transform 2020 Improvement Planning Process Improvement Planning Process Describe the process used to engage a variety of stakeholders in the development of the institution's improvement plan. Include information on how stakeholders were selected and informed of their roles, and how meetings were scheduled to accommodate them. In May 2014, the school's faculty, staff, and parent representatives reviewed the Continuous Improvement Plan to assess the degree to which implemented strategies had been met. This meeting was held after school. Stakeholders were notified by , phone calls, and an announcement. The faculty and staff also met in 2014, for an ACIP work session. During this session, standardized assessment data as well as other local data, were analyzed to determine if any changes or updates needed to be made to the Continuous Improvement Plan. An Annual Title I meeting is scheduled for October, to review the Continuous Improvement Plan with all stakeholders. The meeting will be held at various times to accommodate all stakeholders. Notification was sent through flyers as well as a SchoolCast message. Describe the representations from stakeholder groups that participated in the development of the improvement plan and their responsibilities in this process. Dawson Elementary's faculty, staff, and parent representatives participated in the development of the Continuous Improvement Plan, through open discussions about which goals have been successfully mastered, which still need continuous monitoring, and what new goals need to be added. Explain how the final improvement plan was communicated to all stakeholders, and the method and frequency in which stakeholders receive information on its progress. In May 2014, the school's faculty, staff, and parent representatives reviewed the Continuous Improvement Plan to assess the degree to which implemented strategies had been met. This information will be used to provide input on the following: which objectives have been successfully mastered and need not be included in this year's plan; the objectives that have been mastered but still require continuous monitoring during the ACIP; and objectives that need to be added for the school year. At the July 2014, Faculty Retreat, the instructional leader, resource team, and the school staff analyzed assessment data and other local data. The leadership team met with the school faculty, staff, and parent groups to suggest strategies, professional development, and budget suggestions. After the faculty, staff, and parents provided their input, the draft was modified as indicated. The ACIP for the school year was published and shared with the district's round table. The plan will be available on our school website and a hard copy will be on file in our school office, library, and parent center. Requested modifications will be examined and decisions made by the School Leadership Team and faculty/staff. The finalized ACIP will be sent to the district and the Alabama State Department of Education for approval and signatures. SY Page 10
