2 Port of Helsinki Vuosaari Harbour The Port of Helsinki is the primary hub for global goods flowing to and from Finland and is also a transit gateway to and from Russia and other CIS countries. Extensive liner services connect Helsinki with Baltic and North Sea ports, as well as with numerous major European ports.

Vuosaari State-of-the-art harbour The state-of-the-art Vuosaari Harbour was opened by the Port of Helsinki in This advanced cargo harbour offers direct connections to the entire Finnish road and railway network. The logistics area is fully integrated with harbour operations; a full-service Harbour Centre is formed by harbour and logistics companies offering a non-stop flow of goods, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, whatever the season. The world-class Vuosaari Harbour was realised as a joint project between the Port of Helsinki and private operators. Finland s best connections via Helsinki The Port of Helsinki is Finland s premier port, providing the highest frequency of scheduled departures to all major Western, Central and Northern European ports. Excellent transport connections make the Port of Helsinki a very competitive route for shipments to and from St Petersburg, Moscow and other destinations in Russia and the CIS. The new harbour in Vuosaari is fully integrated with the road and railway infrastructure of Finland and on to Russia. For example, the motorway Ring Road III, part of E18, originates right at the harbour gate. Helsinki Airport, the main airport in Finland, is just 20 minutes from Vuosaari. Specializing in trucks, trailers and containers Vuosaari Harbour has been carefully designed to serve unitized cargo cargo being shipped on trucks, trailers or in containers. The new harbour also serves break bulk cargo shipments and special transports. Vuosaari Harbour offers an excellent operating environment for road and railway transports. A new intermodal terminal, estimated to be complete in early 2011, will even further enhance railway traffic to Vuosaari. The maximum annual capacity of the harbour is 1.2 million TEUs and 800,000 trucks and trailers. These firms include shipping lines, port operators, transportation and forwarding companies, as well as multiple warehouses, terminals, and container depots. Also in the harbour, a wide variety of companies offer services for truck and other heavy equipment maintenance, not to mention the many logistics professionals using the harbour themselves. Caring for the environment The Port of Helsinki places the utmost importance on complying with its responsibilities to the natural, human and built environment, and has proper procedures and measures to minimize environmental impacts arising from its operations. Vuosaari Harbour was assiduously constructed with full consideration for the environment. Every decision has been made with respect to future generations. Examples include: road and railway traffic flows through tunnels so as not to disturb the adjacent Natura 2000 conservation and residential areas; noise barriers have been set in place; every berth has reception facilities for black and grey water; the most advanced cargo and load handling equipment is used in order to minimize emissions; and traffic flow has been pain stakingly designed to eliminate congestion and delays. The Port of Helsinki frequently undertakes initiatives in various fields of social responsibility in order to practice sustainable and accountable port activities.
