1 To access the team website or to register online go to: Swim Team Information Wakefield Plantation is offering its 2016 summer swim league for members only. The program will help swimmers of all ages and abilities, from the novice 6 and under to the advanced 15 and over. Each year nearly 100 children from the TPC Wakefield Plantation Country Club participate on the swim team. It is a fun and enjoyable experience for them, where they improve their swimming skills, learn about team spirit, and socialize with their friends. If you are new to the Wakefield Plantation Tsunami s, the following information will help you to know what to expect. If you are not new to the team, the following has important dates and information for you as well. Please read carefully, as there are changes from previous years. G-O-O-O-O-O-O TSUNAMI S!!! Swimmer Discount: We offer two prices for swim team. The first swimmer is $130 and any additional swimmer is $105. All charges will be through member charge at the end of May. Swimmers who are age 15 & over can swim free of charge, but still need to register online. Swimmer Fees First Swimmer $ Second, third & fourth Swimmer $ Included in your fees, your child will receive the following: 7 Fun-filled weeks of swimming Swimmer Discount Ribbons & Trophies Experienced and Talented Coaching Staff Website Access League Participation TAC Facility for Championship Swim Pre-Season Party & End of Season Swim Banquet There will be a minimal charge for the Pre-Season Party and the End of Season Banquet for everyone. Swimmers and family members of swim team participants will be charged this fee for attending. Alcoholic beverages will be an additional member charge during meets, and at the Banquet. 1

2 2016 Team Uniform: In order to participate in the 2016 swim team, each child must wear the team-designated swimsuit. We change our swimsuits every 2 years. 4 HydroXphere Timing System From Olympic Gold Medalist Charlie Houchin comes Central, a comprehensive system that lets your summer swim team club use mobile devices to start, time, judge, and score! This is the same system that we used last season but some updates and changes have been made to improve the overall meet experience, pace, time and effectiveness. TAC Training & Clinic This will be both a free swim clinic run by TAC Titans for the swimmers and training for parents on starting, stroke & turn, recorder and runner. We would like as many parents as possible from our club to allow multiple people trained at each position. The clinic and training is on Saturday, April 23 rd at 12pm, located at Triangle Aquatics Center in Cary and will focus on Butterfly for 7 & ups and Breaststroke for 6 & unders. Minimum Swim Requirement: To participate on the swim team you must be able to swim half a lap if 6 years and under and one full lap if 7 or older. This is not a learn to swim program. There is a grace period of two weeks (May 16 th -May30th). If you are interested in a swim lesson program, please contact Natalie Clemens at nclemens@ccwakefieldplantation.com for more information. Weather Policy: Rain alone is not grounds for delaying or rescheduling a meet. Please show up at the meet at the proper time even it appears likely that weather may impact the event. Every attempt is made to run a meet on the scheduled day because of inconvenience to the host club and staff to reschedule (usually on the following night), and the difficulty in getting swimmers and workers back due to conflict with other activities. This results in massive changes in the lineup and possibly the outcome! Volunteers & Parent Reps Swim team cannot happen without the help of the parents! You play a very important and key role in the success of the summer swim team! We do have parent reps that help get everything organized before, during and at the end of every season. Without their help we could not be as successful as we are! Thank you for all that you do!!! The parent committee consists of the below positions and we are still currently looking for more help! Website Administration Scorer Clerk of Course League Reps Stroke & Turn Head Timer/Judge Volunteer Coordinator Spirit Wear Volunteers are essential to run a swim meet. Our team must have volunteers at both home and away swim meets. When you register your child for the team, we ask that you agree to work at least two meets. You may help out as much as you like, but two meets is the minimum requirement of a swim team family. Please sign up for your 2 volunteer positions on the swim team website. Food & Beverage No outside food is permitted on property with the exception of team snacks or unless organized by the club. Alcohol will now be permitted at swim meets although discouraged for officials and volunteers. Reciprocal member charges are now available for all away swim meets. 4

5 Communication & Website Please check the team website/swimmer management system at for all team communication. In addition, ensure that your account information is current, including all addresses. will be our main vehicle for communication regarding swim events, cancellations, etc. The website/swim management system will be the only location to elect which swim meets your child will attend, sign up for volunteer positions, sign up for team events, see meet results, photos and any additional information regarding the team. Record Board We are excited to announce that Wakefield has a new record board located at the Sports Club. We will be updating this board after each meet! We hope that this gets the kids even more excited to swim faster and improve those times so their name can be on the big board! 2016 Practice Schedule: ***Swimmers may attend as many practices as they want each week. 6 2016 Coaching Staff: Head Coach - Carly Tanner Carly is excited to come back for her second season as the head coach for the Tsunamis! She recently completed her master's degree in Communication at NC State University this past spring. She earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, where she competed for the Division 1 swimming & diving team from At UNCW, she holds two individual school records and three relay records, and received the Thomas V. Moseley Award for Outstanding Female Student Athlete. She competed nationally at the 2013 NCAA Championships, where she finished 21st in the nation in the 100 yard breaststroke. In addition to her 16+ years of competitive swimming experience, she has over six years of extensive experience in coaching through various swim teams, swim schools, clinics and private lessons. Assistant Coach Brooke Langevin Brooke Langevin is currently an undergraduate student at North Carolina State University. This will be Brooke's fourth year on the coaching staff for the Tsunami's and she is thrilled to be returning. Brooke swam for her high school team all four years and was captain her senior year. Brooke has been a part of summer swimming since the age of 5 and she loves the atmosphere of a summer swim meet more than anything. Her favorite part has to be the final Freestyle Relays as they are always so exciting. Brooke is very excited for this upcoming season and can't wait to see all the returning and new faces back on deck. Assistant Coach Michael Baric Michael is excited for his first season with the Tsunamis. He is a year into his master's degree for Sports Management at the University of Florida. In addition to joining the Tsunamis coaching staff this summer, Michael is training with the NC State swim team for the 2016 Olympic Trials in Omaha, which he qualified for in the 100 meter backstroke. Michael earned his Bachelor's degree at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, where he competed on the Division 1 swimming and diving team from He currently holds 3 individual school records at UNCW in the 200 individual medley, 100 Backstroke, and the 200 Breaststroke. He earned the Rookie of the Year honor his freshmen year and was also voted team captain his junior and senior years. In high school, Michael was the North Carolina state champion in the 200 Individual Medley his senior year. In addition to his swimming experience, Michael has taught private lessons for 8 years and has coached for 3. 6

7 2016 Dual Schedule & Information For Home meets, be at the pool ready to swim/stretch at 4:45pm. For Away meets, be at the away pool ready to swim stretch 45 minutes prior to meet start time. It is critical that you indicate on the Tsunami website whether your child will swim or not for each meet. Please sign up online. If you do not sign up, we will assume that your child is not swimming. Please do this as soon as you are aware you will miss/attend a meet, and definitely one day before the meet (Monday) at noon. If you know you will need to leave a meet early, please send an to our Head Coach, Carly. The coaches need this information to create the line ups for the meet. Swimmers are generally assigned 3 individual races for 7 and older swimmers, and 2 individual races for 6 & under. Mock meets, tri-meets and inter-squad meets may also be scheduled for the team.
