1 INFORMATION PACKAGE CITIZENS PARTICIPATION AND FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES TO SUPPORT PARTICIPATIVE INITIATIVES November 2013, Strasbourg - France Content of the training course ALDA wishes to provide for all candidates a deeper knowledge about the concept of active citizenship and citizens participation in the European context and increase awareness of the role they can play in improving governance and relationships between citizens and governments at all levels. Participants will receive information on the existing funding opportunities, and mainly on the Europe for Citizens Programme, but will learn also how to develop a successful project in the framework of the different actions of the Europe for Citizens programme and other funding opportunities related to citizens initiatives. To reach these objectives ALDA offers a 5 days intensive training course which will be implemented through efficient teaching methods, both theoretical and practical, in order to encourage participant to a close interaction with trainers and the other trainees. ALDA s long experience in the development and organization of trainings and activities related to active citizens participation and citizens initiatives will ensure the quality of contents and methodologies used. This highly innovative training course will provide opportunity for adult participants to come together to exchange various teaching methods which are relevant for their own personal development, work and organisations including structured discussion, lectures, role play, workshops with case studies, working groups, presentations, networking and partnership sessions, etc. Moreover the training will specifically focus on specialised terminology related to the EU in general, EU Funds, EU Project Cycle Management that needs to be acquired by adult learners at the beginning of the course in order to increase their insight of the field. The training course on Citizen Participation and Funding Opportunities to Support Participative Initiatives aims at: - Deepen participants knowledge about the concept of active citizenship and citizens participation in the European context - Increase awareness of the role they can play in improving governance and relationships between citizens and governments at all levels - Acquire information on the existing funding opportunities, and mainly on the Europe for Citizens Programme - Learn how to develop a successful project in the framework of the different actions of the Europe for Citizens Programme and other funding opportunities related to citizens initiatives The training is both theoretical-oriented and practical-oriented conceived in order to encourage participants to a close interaction with trainers and other trainees. Participants will have the chance to practice various teaching methods, including structured discussion, lectures, role play, workshops with case studies, working groups, presentations, networking and partnership sessions. Furthermore some sessions will include trainer presentations of concept and materials, which lead to discussions and debate among the participants. On the other hand, some other sessions will encourage participants to share their own experiences in order to have feedback from trainers and to better plan their actions in their local context.

3 Venue of the training The Training will be held in the European Youth Centre of the Council of Europe, which offers advanced training facilities. Participants should pay fees within 4 weeks from the starting day of the training session. The easiest way to make the payment is via bank transfer. Accommodation We provide assistance in booking accommodation in Strasbourg, and we highly recommend staying at the European Youth Centre since it will be easy for the participants to reach the training venue. Payment for the accommodation should be made directly to the European Youth Centre, we can support participants in doing that and we can have favourable prices if we do a group reservation. The price for a double room is between 35 and 40 Euros per day including breakfast, and for a single room is between 45 and 55 Euros per day including breakfast. The Centre offers the following services: self-service restaurant (with standard offers or special services at request) for lunches, dinners and receptions, 24-hour reception service, 7 days a week, free access to the cybercentre with high-speed Internet, access to Wi- Fi throughout the building, Information centre for research and documentation, large terrace where you may relax with a view of the European institutions, bicycles for hire, sauna, games area (including a piano and hi-fi), parking area. 4 How to get to Strasbourg? Airports close to Strasbourg: By plane Strasbourg International Airport (SXB) is located south-west of the city at Entzheim, with domestic as well as international flights. Air France is the principal operator. There are several flights a day to and from Paris. A train is running to the town center ( 3.60, including a tram connexion). The travel time is 9 minutes and the frequency is 15 minutes. Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport (FKB) is located about 60km away in Germany. Ryanair operates from Karlsruhe. The best way to get to Strasbourg is to get navette (bus-shuttle) that bring you directly to the main station in Strasbourg ( it costs around 40 EUR return ticket. The cheapest way to arrive in Strasbourg is to take a bus from the airport to Baden-Baden Hauptbahnhof (Main Station) from here trains ( run to Strasbourg, normally with one change. From station to station the journey is about 45m-1hr. Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) is about three hours away from Strasbourg, and is one of the nearest inter-continental airports to Strasbourg. Lufthansa operates a shuttle bus between Strasbourg and Frankfurt. The bus takes 2.5 hours and costs 55 (one way). Different air companies operates there, among them easyjet. Strasbourg can be reached by navette (bus-shuttle) that bring you directly to the main station in Strasbourg ( it costs around 55 EUR return ticket. The cheapest solution to reach Strasbourg is by train, from the station of Saint- Louis (timetable available on A bus is operating from the airport to the station of Saint-Luis each 30 min, for more info Stuttgart Airport ( This international airport is about 3 train travel hours and about 40 (one way) away from Strasbourg. The additional costs of the train to Strasbourg are often rendered negligible compared to the low flight prices to this airport. Check for the train connections. Frankfurt-Hahn Airport ( This airport is the low cost alternative to Frankfurt International Airport. Although it is a bit complicated to reach (bus shuttles/train; count about 4 hours to get to Strasbourg), the flights there have interesting prices to many different destinations.
