1 IDEAL VILLAGE CONCEPT (A Self-Sustaining and Independent Community Village) The Ideal Village Concept is a community village with a selfsustaining income producing project/s, independent electrification system generated from non-fuel based device, clean water facility for drinking including water for irrigation, quality but affordable housings, school, medical facilities for human beings and animals, proper sanitation system, information center, bank, police station, retail outlet for household and agriculture needs, phone facility, connecting roads to nearby villages and towns, legal councilor. Such community villages can contribute to the economic growth of a province and even at national level. A prosperous village can result in less political problems for governments and enhance the standard of living of the people. On the surface, it looks like we need multi-millions of dollars to implement such a program but in reality this is not. The funding for developing such a concept must first come from the government in the beginning after one such community is successfully implemented funds from other sources such as aids organizations, charitable foundations, development banks, the world bank, donor countries as well as private donors will flow in because these organizations will know that the government is committed to provide good management and proper governance. Conceptually, such a village is very ideal, it will be quite a task but it is not impossible. The concept must be tailored to available resources in the project area but the most important criteria that will make the project a success is that there must be commitment and good management from the sponsor of the project as well as full support from village residents to maintain these. Self-sustaining income producing projects 1. ANIMAL & POULTRY FARMING

2 Rearing of cattle, goats, pigs, chickens etc can also be adopted as an optional opportunity to allow the villagers to be self sufficient in food supply, milk supply and generate income as well. 2. COMMUNITY FARMING

3 We should identify couple of crops such as wheat, maize, spices, dals and horticultural crops for community farming. The target market for the produce or production should be the provincial towns or at national levels. This will allow the villagers additional income to be added onto their income from farming. Undoubtedly the villagers will then be earning above national average wages which will encourage more of such villages to be implemented throughout the country. Community farming Fishing 3. SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES Since our main objective is to create sustainable income stream we will explore ways and means to develop small scale industries where ever the local resources will be able to support such an opportunity. Women based food processing unit, Reestablishment of indigenous rural occupation those who belongs particular community like fishery, Animal husbandry, carpentry etc. We can save community s occupation in modernized way. The industry could be for fruits juice canning, tomato paste canning, fish meat, frozen seafood processing, flour packaging and bakery. This will permit remote villages to be financially self sustaining and the creation of employment.

ORGANIC FERTILIZER In village we should concentrate to produce and use organic fertilizer, the farms will enjoy the benefits of being environmentally friendly, shorter harvesting period and increased production. The organic fertilizer has proven to increase production by up to 40%, insect free attack, shorten harvesting period and cause no pollution. We can use agricultural wastes as organic fertilizers by suitable composting technology. Users of organic fertilizers over time can also stop the use of chemical fertilizers, insecticide and pesticide. This will be a great plus for the environment and cost savings for the farmers and country.

5 Basic requirements of a village 1. ELECTRIFICATION Rural electrification in rural area with affordable cost is needed. In farm area we can popularized the non conventional sources like wind energy in sea shore area, solar energy etc. Solar energy can be widely used all over. 2. SAFE DRINKING WATER This can be made possible using Govt. based community Water Purification Plant s technology. Small water purification plants can be built for remote areas to provide safe and clean drinking water from turbid river water, shallow well, flood water and contaminated water. Even the most remote village can now be accessible to human two basic needs which are water and electricity.

6 Water harvesting should be promoted to maintain ground water level. 3. HOUSING By Low cost housing building system (Light-Weight Building System) the housing needs of the villagers can be met. Quality homes are built at affordable cost in any remote areas. The structures are permanent and come with modern sanitation facility. The system allows flexibility in designs and the panels of the houses are of lightweight concrete; thus we do not need cranes to erect the pre-cast panels. Minimal skilled workers are required to build the homes hence the villagers themselves can be trained to assist in building the homes. 4. EDUCATION CENTER Schools should be set up in the village which should be providing education to the children, housewives, elders and also conduct Personality Development, career counseling camps for the youth of the villages.

7 5. POLICE BOOTH Each village should be provided with police booth or beat constables as per its population so that appropriate security can be provided. 6. BANKS Based on population each village or group of nearby villages should have a bank to meet their financial requirements. Each villager should be provided with credit account based on their credibility. 7. Retail outlet for household and agriculture needs Each village should be having retail outlet from where villagers can buy household items, fertilizers etc as well as can have some counseling on seeds, fertilizers etc. Hariyali Kissan Bazaar promoted by DSCL group is a good example of this. 8. COMMUNICATION CENTER Each village should have public phone facility as well as information center from where they can obtain information related to their land records, government schemes, their application status etc. 9. Each village should be well connected with nearby villages and town with well constructed roads.
