2 Acting Principal s Report In the newsletter this week is a letter to parents of Year 3 and 5 students regarding the upcoming National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) The tests will be conducted across Australia from May 2014, which is Week 3 of Term 2. Our completed Annual School Report for 2013 has now been finalised and will be uploaded to the Campbelltown East Public School website for the school community to view by the end of this week. All schools must prepare and publish an Annual School Report (ASR) which is a record of the school s self-evaluation process and part of the ongoing cycle of school planning and evaluation. As mentioned in the last newsletter this year we are requesting a Technology Contribution in addition to the annual voluntary School Contribution. We are asking for a Technology Contribution in 2014 because we are purchasing an XO laptop for every student to use across all classes K-6. This initiative will rapidly improve access of students to computer technology and aid the engagement of students and teachers in quality teaching and learning. This access to technology is greatly needed to move our students towards being 21 st Century Learners. As you can imagine this bulk purchase of technology will be extremely costly for the school and this is why we are requesting a voluntary Technology Contribution from each family. A separate note for the Technology Contribution has been included with this newsletter. Each contribution paid by the end of Term 2 will go into the draw to win a prize. Thanks to those families who have already made payment of this contribution to the office. Just a reminder that tomorrow we are having our school photographs. We would like to see all children in full school uniform for class photos, including wearing black shoes. Your support of this would be greatly appreciated. As the term draws to a close I would like to remind you that staff members will return to school next term on the 28 April. On the Term 2 School Development Day staff will be participating in training in the implementation of the new Mathematics Australian Curriculum, which is mandatory to be implemented in all NSW primary schools in This is going to involve a considerable amount of training for the staff at our school and is certainly an exciting time as we ensure we meet the learning needs of students in the 21 st century, equipping them with the skills necessary in a rapidly changing world. We look forward to seeing all students returning on Tuesday 29 April 2014, for the first day of Term 2. I d also like to remind our Kindergarten parents/carers that the school day will finish at 3.00pm next term for the remainder of the year. Have a wonderful week. 3 Sport PSSA PSSA will be held Friday 4 April 2014 at Rosemeadow Playing Fields. Participants will travel by bus at a cost of $8.00 per student. Could team members please pay at the front office this prior to the event? Gala Day Friday 21 March, was the first Gala Day for Tiger Tag at Rosemeadow Playing Fields. It was a FANTASTIC day! Two girls teams and four boys teams competed on the day, with the Senior Boys A Team and Junior Girls team finishing the day undefeated! All teams should be commended on their excellent effort and attitude, and also for their respectful manner towards the referees, students and teachers from other schools. I would particularly like to thank the many parents/carers who attended for their support and help with organising and encouraging each team. The amount of parents and carers was great and I hope to see you all again at the next Gala Day (Friday, 4 April). Campbelltown Representative Rugby Throughout Term 1, trials have been held for Campbelltown Representative Teams in Rugby League. Campbelltown East Public School performed extremely well at these trials and this year we have five students who were successful in securing positions in these teams. Congratulations to Mitchell Martin and Terrell Kalo Kalo for being selected in the Under 11s Squad, and Ezra Talau, Ford Pasese and Randy Vaega for making it into the Open Squad. Terrell Kalo Kalo will also be playing in the Open squad after impressing the coaches with his skill. Best of luck at the games next term boys! Opportunity Class Placement Year 5 entry to an opportunity class placement in 2015 applications will be available from Monday 28 April 2014 until Friday 16 May Applications made after the closing date will NOT be accepted. All applications without internet access must complete a commercially printed form. Parents/carers of students who attend a government primary school may access an application package from the school. All candidates seeking Year 5 placement in an opportunity class in 2015 must take the Opportunity Class Placement Test which is conducted in 2014 are as follows: Activity Online applications opens and applications information and forms available at schools Online applications close. Paper applications returned to schools. 4 Australian School University Competition The following NSW University competitions held at various dates throughout the year are available to primary age students Year 3-6. Your children are under no obligation to participate as they are your choice and at your expense to enter. 5 Internet Address for Parent/Carers Once again we are trying to update information for parent/carers addresses. It has been suggested that newsletters be ed to parent/carers. Unfortunately at this time we do not have enough addresses on our system to do this. We would appreciate if you could update your information. Forms for student and parent carer information will be sent home for you to update early in Term 2. Anti-Bullying Policy Campbelltown East is updating their Anti Bullying Policy. Enclosed in this newsletter is a survey for parents/carers to gauge your thoughts on bullying at Campbelltown East. These forms are now overdue so please return these forms urgently. 6 Parent/Carer Workshop Do you want to meet people? Would you like to have a chat and enjoy a coffee or tea with other parents/carers? Your help is needed for the parent/carer workshop. The workshop runs on Thursday afternoons 1.30pm - 3pm In the P&C room Staff and teachers would appreciate your help with odd jobs such as cutting, pasting, laminating, and covering books and many other exciting jobs. So please mark your 2014 calendar for Thursday afternoons. Museum News Our next Museum & Market open day will be Sunday 13 April Please come along and have a browse to see what is happening. Remember Mother s Day is approaching fast. We will be also opening on ANZAC DAY Friday 25 April Thank you to all the parent/carers and the community members who have supported the markets and museum throughout 2013/2014. It has been great to see so many familiar faces. If you have a stall you would like to have at the markets please contact Kerrie Heath on for details and cost. P&C News The AGM was held on the 18 March The old committee stepped down and we thank them for their hard work during the year. Our president Mrs Haldenby and secretary Mrs Ryan have moved out of the area and we wish them all the best. The new president is Ms Short and treasurer is Mrs Ludgate. There are 2 Vice President roles and a secretary role still vacant. We encourage parents/carers and community members to become members of the P&C for the small fee of a $1. This needs to be paid before the 20th May meeting to stand for a position or be able to vote. Canteen News There is an urgent need for volunteers for the canteen and unless the volunteers are forthcoming the canteen will be closed on certain days. Community There will also be a survey sent home soon regarding the canteen. Your support in these matters will decide the future of P&C fundraising for the students and the canteen remaining open in the future. Please see Michelle Kelly in the Canteen if you can help.

7 P&C Easter Raffle WHICH CLASS WILL WIN? This year the P&C are asking for donations of anything Easter related to fill the baskets in individual classrooms. These baskets will be used as prizes for our Easter raffle, with the winning class receiving an Easter egg per child (and of course the teacher). Tickets: $2 each or 3 for $5 So ask your parents/carers and your friends, the heaviest basket on 10 April will be 1 st prize and winning class.
