2 Our Story The Jewish Community Center of Metropolitan Detroit was established in 1926, and our first day camp was held just three years later. Ever since, JCC Day Camps have presented the area s finest programs, with diverse offerings that are infused with Jewish values of care and respect. JCC DAY CAMPS Located on more than 250 beautiful wooded acres in West Bloomfield, our camp includes indoor and outdoor pools, a fishing and boating pond, nature trails, a ropes challenge course, a 600-seat professional theatre, a full gym, an interactive children s museum, an art gallery, inline hockey center, playgrounds for all ages, air-conditioned facilities, a library and gaga pits! Licensed by the State of Michigan and accredited by the American Camping Association Open to children of all backgrounds and abilities, ages 2½ (potty trained) to 15 Begins in June and runs until Labor Day AM and PM care available (7:30-8:30 a.m. and 3:30-6 p.m.) Break camps during school vacations FREE, chaperoned transportation to and from most areas in Oakland County Need-based financial aid Programs for children with special needs (see back for details)

3 Our Program JCC Day Camps has spectacular monthlong and week-long camps! TRADITIONAL CAMP Four-week sessions, divided by age groups, with swimming lessons, sports, special events, field trips, arts and crafts, and specialist-led activities. Pre-kindergarten to grade 5. TRAVEL CAMP Four-week sessions with the fun of Traditional Camp plus off-campus adventures. Grades 6-7 and 8-9. SPORTS CAMPS Week-long camps including Archery, Baseball, Basketball, Canoeing/Kayaking, Cheerleading, Dance, Foil, Football, Gymnastics, Horseback Riding, Inline Hockey, Karate, Tennis and Waterpark Adventures. CREATIVE CAMPS Week-long camps including Arts & Crafts, Baking, Building, Cartooning, Circus, Clay, Jewelry, Music, LEGO TM, Restaurant, Rocketry, Science and Video Game Building. LEADERS IN TRAINING Four-week sessions help teens become leaders through community service, team-building exercises, First Aid training, decision making and more. Grade 10. SUMMER STOCK THEATRE CAMP One-week and three-week programs for new and seasoned actors and actresses, singers, stage technicians and anyone in love with theatre. Taught by the staff of The Berman Center for the Performing Arts. Grades PRE AND POST CAMPS Based on the school calendar, week-long camps are held before and/or after the regular summer program. Please visit our website to see information about what s available this year. K TON TON K Ton Ton is for children ages 2½ to 4½ (potty trained). Pitt Child Development Center staff serve as counselors, and camp includes activities with specialists, swim lessons, bunk activities and one field trip per session. Lunch is provided. Kids can come for a day, a week or more as they meet up with friends from summer and enjoy favorites including sports, swimming, games, crafts and more. For more information:

5 Why JCC Day Camps? FRIENDSHIP The closeness children share as they play and learn together helps them develop compassion, make friendships that last a lifetime and learn to work with many different kinds of people. ACTIVITY With swimming and hikes in the woods, sports and games, camp means being active, which is vital for mental, physical and spiritual well-being. CONFIDENCE At camp there s no competition (except the friendly kind), no homework, tests, or pressure to get good grades, allowing kids to develop confidence and become empowered to face new challenges and situations. EXPLORING TALENTS JCC Day Camps allow kids the chance to do what they love, working with professional staff from every field who help them develop existing talents and learn new skills. INDEPENDENCE Camp is a safe and structured environment where children learn to think for themselves and make good choices. JEWISH VALUES While each JCC day camp has its own culture and program, we share a commitment to bringing to life the values of the JCC movement. Chesed (compassion), kehillah (community), tikkun olam (repairing the world), ruach (spirit) and hachnassat orchim (welcoming guests) are woven into the fabric of our camp communities. 6 Programs for Special Needs The JCC offers four summer programs to meet the needs of children, teens and young adults with special needs. Kids All Together (KAT) KAT gives children (ages 2½-14) with special needs the opportunity to participate in typical activities at summer camp. With support from a one-on-one inclusion counselor, every child has the chance to swim, enjoy arts and crafts, and play sports alongside typically developing peers. KAT is a very popular program with limited space, so early registration is a must. Camp Connect Camp Connect is for children in grades K-4 and offers a 3:1 camper-to-counselor ratio (if needed, a 1:1 counselor is available). This program helps campers connect with their typically developing peers and their peers with disabilities, and it offers activities that may uncover hidden skills, new interests and friendships. Participants spend four days enjoying regular camp activities, with one day off campus at a water park. Kids also have lunch, participate in a typical camp activity, ruach (spirit) time and partake in specialty days with the main JCC Day Camps. Special Needs Adventure Program (SNAP) SNAP is a non-inclusion program for children who do not require 1:1 support and wish to participate in regular summer camp. SNAP is divided into Explorers (grades 5-8) and Voyagers (grades 9-12). Throughout the week, both groups go on field trips to destinations like the zoo, DIA, Zap Zone and local parks, as well as participate in volunteer projects to learn the importance of charity, community and team building. Teens All Together (TAT) TAT comprises two separate age groups, and 18-26, and offers older campers the chance to enjoy summer activities and learn real-world skills. Two days a week are spent working in various positions on the JCC campus, with trained staff serving as job coaches; two days are for exploring the community and enjoying camp fun; and one day is for developing soft skills such as budgeting, nutrition and personal safety.
