1 YMCA GOODTIMES BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM THE YMCA OF GREATER MONTGOMERY FOR MONTGOMERY AND ELMORE COUNTIES

2 On behalf of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery we wish to welcome your family to the YMCA of GREATER MONTGOMERY YMCA GOODTIMES AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM The YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Afterschool program curriculum contains the following: devotion, homework help, performing arts, creative arts, reading & language enrichment, math & science enrichment, nutrition & health, social responsibility, and physical fitness. THE YMCA OF GREATER MONTGOMERY STAFF We take a great deal of pride having such an exceptional staff. The YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Afterschool program leaders work with children in groups divided according to age and interest level. All staff members are required to pass a criminal background check as well as participate in a series of comprehensive training sessions with emphasis on programming, skill development and identifying and meeting children s individual needs. The site director is the first person you should discuss your questions and/or concerns with. Should you require further assistance, please contact a YMCA of Greater Montgomery program director with the branch sponsoring the site program. YMCA PHILOSOPHY The YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Program is a year-round program, designed with the YMCA s basic philosophy of helping children realize their full physical, mental, and spiritual potential in a climate of stability, safety, and trust. HOURS OF OPERATION The YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Program is offered from school dismissal, usually 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. each school day during the school year. All children are to be picked up no later than 6:00 p.m. to avoid a late fee. A late fee of $1.00 per minute will be charged to parents picking children up later than 6:00 p.m. When a child has been picked up late 3 times without prior notice, that child will not be allowed to continue in the program. A YMCA of Greater Montgomery center conveniently located near you will be available for all-day child care on many school holidays. FEES Weekly fees are due every THURSDAY for the following week. A $15.00 late fee will be applied to all delinquent accounts on Friday. Payments can be paid by Thursday at the site your child attends. Late payments made after 6:00 p.m. Thursday must be paid at a branch. Checks and money orders should be made payable to the YMCA of Greater Montgomery. Please provide your child s name, your driver s license number, home number, and work number on your check or money order. Accounts must be current in order for your child or children to continue in the program. Parents will be asked to find other afterschool care for accounts one week delinquent. All accounts must be paid with a check or money order. Cash cannot be accepted at our afterschool sites. Cash can be accepted at any of our branches. ABSENCES Site directors check attendance daily. Should your child not report to the YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Program, we will immediately call you at the number we have on file. Please notify us if your child will not be attending or if he/she checked out of school. We do not have access to a checkout list. CREDIT FOR ABSENCES Your fees pay for direct operating costs, i.e. staff, snacks, crafts and program supplies. When you enroll your child, we hire staff and incur costs based on your enrollment. In order for us to keep our costs and your fees as low as possible we cannot credit absences. For weeks in which school holidays occur, fees are not prorated. Please notify your site director at least one week in advance of any planned absence.

3 REFUNDS FOR WITHDRAWALS You must give us at least one-week advance written notice when withdrawing from the Goodtimes program. Otherwise you will be responsible for the following week s fee. No refunds will be given. If you choose to withdraw your child, you will be required to pay a $25.00 registration fee to re-enroll in the YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Program. No individual/participant will be allowed to enroll or coach in any program of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery with an amount due on their account. RETURNED CHECKS All returned checks are referred to a third party for collection and subject to their collection fees. CLOTHING AND PERSONAL ITEMS During the YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes After School Program, we encourage children to participate in a wide variety of activities inside and outdoors; therefore, a change of clothes is permitted. Please label all clothing, books and book bags. EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES The YMCA of Greater Montgomery as a not-for-profit organization has opportunities for everyone! There are many programs that your child may be interested in, including basketball, soccer, football, gymnastics, cheerleading, karate, girl s basketball, track, girl s volleyball, leaders club, and swim team. Check with a YMCA of Greater Montgomery location near you or ask your site director about any activity in which your family may be interested. In addition, at certain locations your child can participate in extra enrichment activities. We partner with AUM s Confucius Institute to bring lessons in the Mandarin Chinese language and culture. Working in a partnership with the Montgomery Symphony Orchestra, at some locations, your child can participate in violin, viola and bass music lessons. Abrakadoodle also offers art lessons at some locations. Several after school sites offer weekly bible lessons with the Good News Child Evangelists. PARTNERS WITH YOUTH CAMPAIGN This is the YMCA of Greater Montgomery s annual fundraising campaign and it gives hope by making character-building programs available to children, teens, and families who cannot afford the YMCA experience. With this program, we build stronger communities through donors and volunteer participation. For more information on how to volunteer or donate to the PWY Campaign please talk to your site director. INCLEMENT WEATHER When Montgomery County Schools or Elmore County Schools decide to close school early or cancel other afterschool activities due to severe weather, our YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Programs will be closed as well. You will need to make other arrangements to pick your child(ren) up from school. This decision was made to ensure the safety of your child(ren). On all-day weather related closures such as snow days, you will need to contact your YMCA branch to check on childcare availability. HOLIDAYS Childcare is available, however, pre-registration is requested. Registration forms are available at the site where your children attend the program. It is very important that the form is turned in before the deadline due to space availability. There is a $15.00 late fee charged to all registrations received after the deadline. The program will operate as a full day on most school holidays. When attending the full-day program, please send a non-perishable lunch with your children. Afternoon snacks and drinks will be provided. Unless notified otherwise, all-day Goodtimes Programs are held at the YMCA of Greater Montgomery branches. ILLNESS/ATTENDANCE When a child is ill he or she should remain home until they have completely recovered and are fever free for 36-hours. This is for the child s health as well as for the health of others. The YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes program staff should be notified of the nature of the illness and when the illness began. Any Goodtime participant will be sent home if they are running fever above 100 o F, have a severe cough, runny nose, or sore throat.

4 MEDICATION A medical release form must be submitted for each medication that a child requires. The medication that needs to be administered should be discussed with and given directly to the site director. Documented specific instructions of quantity, time to be administered, name and phone number of physician should be in a written format and given directly to The YMCA of Greater Montgomery. SNACKS Children in the YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Program receive an afternoon snack and drink. The YMCA of Greater Montgomery attempts to make these food breaks healthy. Should a child have dietary restrictions and/or allergies, please be specific and indicate all allergies and restrictions on the provided medical information form. PARENT CONFERENCES Exchange of information between the parent and the YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Program staff provides insight for all involved with your children. The format may be formal or informal. It is vital that you inform us of changes happening within your family unit. These changes include but are not limited to moving, hospitalization of a family member or friend, and differences in the parental relationship. These changes greatly influence the way in which children relate to those around them. The YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Program Staff can better provide for a child s personal needs if they are aware of any life changing situations. BEHAVIORAL DIFFICULTIES DURING SCHOOL Children may experience troubling times during the school day. These behavior issues typically follow the child into the YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes program. It is always beneficial to keep our staff updated and informed of such issues so we are fully aware and can be sensitive to your child s needs. It is the goal of the YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Program staff to work as a team with the child s school and family to provide the best environment for the growth and development of all children. THE YMCA OF GREATER MONTGOMERY GOODTIMES PROGRAM HOUSE RULES 1. Speak for yourself 2. Listen to others 3. Take charge of yourself 4. Be respectful 5. Ask your children about their daily experiences within the program every day. Let us know immediately of any problems or concerns that you or your children have. It is important to resolve all minor problems well before they become serious problems. We want your child to feel safe and secure at all times during their stay with the YMCA of Greater Montgomery Goodtimes Program.
