1 Primary School PE and School Sports Funding Below is a table explaining what we are planning to spend our school sports funding on this year ( 9000) Cost Activity Intended Outcome Impact measures 225 To fund additional swimming sessions for pupils to ensure they meet end of key stage 2 expectations. Swimming is part of the National Curriculum, before children leave our school it is expected that they are able to meet the objectives highlighted below. All children to be able to complete expected standards by the end of Key Stage 2. Swimming activities and water safety: Breadth of study. DFE, PE National Curriculum. 9. Pupils should be taught to: a. pace themselves in floating and swimming challenges related to speed, distance and personal survival b. swim unaided for a sustained period of time over a distance of at least 25m c. use recognised arm and leg actions, lying on their front and back d. use a range of recognised strokes and personal survival skills [for example, front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, sculling, floating and surface diving].

2 500 To pay into the South Charnwood School Sports Partnership The school will continue to work in partnership with Longslade Community College as well as the other STEP primary schools. The Sports Funding will pay for the services of a school sports coordinator. Their role will be to arrange tournaments and fixtures between the cluster primaries, whilst offering exit routes for our more gifted children, allowing them to compete against other children at a higher level. We feel it is important that children who are more able in sport are given the chance to participate against others of a similar ability and potential. High levels of engagement in inter-school activities. Children who show aptitude in a particular area are enabled to achieve wider sporting success. The school have successfully taken part in many activities organised by the Partnership. Aqua Splash Inter-School netball competitions Tri-Golf- our Year 3 / 4 children won this tournament. Cross Country trials we now have 4 children who will represent the Area at the County Finals. Other activities organised by the South Charnwood schools Sports partnership to be completed during the summer term Orienteering Multi-skill Football festival Our children have enjoyed and benefitted from taking part in these tournaments and have experienced competing against other schools. The impact on the children has been high for relatively little cost.

3 5400 To hire a qualified sports coach to deliver high quality PE across the school. BROOMFIELD PRIMARY SCHOOL The Sports Funding will pay for the services of a PE specialist for three half days each week to deliver PE lessons alongside our staff to teach predominantly invasion games. Again, not only will the children benefit from being taught by a PE teacher, but our own staff will be developed through sharing good practice and assisting in the PE lessons. Staff confidence and ability improved. Greater confidence in planning and delivery of the PE scheme of work. Observations of children and staff during PE lessons, teachers to use CPD training to run own clubs. Equipment will be used more effectively observations. Staff audit indicates that many skills have been observed in the lessons delivered by our Sports Coach and that these have been incorporated into the teacher s own planning and delivery of lessons. (See lesson plans for detail). Many aspects of good practise shared. Sessions have enabled staff to differentiate more securely within a unit of work/lesson. Teachers have found that their children have demonstrated improved co-ordination and spatial awareness which has also impacted other PE activities as well as their motor skills within other areas of the curriculum. 4 1800 To hire specialist PE coaches to deliver subject specific activities. BROOMFIELD PRIMARY SCHOOL Children will be taught specific skills by a sportsperson working in that specific area. E.g. England Women s hockey players to teach hockey, Leicester Riders to teach Basketball. Also to have inspirational speakers e.g. Olympic medallists in assembly to promote and encourage sport. Staff confidence in specific sport is developed. Children motivated to go and join a sports club relating to activity (legacy). 4 activities have taken place so far Tag Rugby Dance Orienteering Hockey A wide range of skills have been covered through all of these activities. Rugby saw the children show improved hand-eye coordination and staff audits show they feel more confident in applying some of the skills to other sports. Tag- Rugby has then continued as an after school club. In hockey the children were seen to make good progress over the block and staff identified how much could be achieved and how younger (KS1) children can be challenged more when expectations are higher. Overall all coaching so far has been of good quality. Lesson plans have been left by the coaches and are currently been used by other staff members. Engagement and pupil enjoyment has been high in all areas.

5 FREE FREE To subsidise places for afterschool sports and increase participation in school sport. To provide training for midday managers to introduce playground games at lunchtimes. To develop inter-house team competitions. 225 To provide CPD for staff especially the subject leader. Our school already offers a range of after school clubs, accessed by children from Key Stages one and two. These clubs will continue to run as before. The l club may involve learning a new sport, or improving in a familiar sport, with the emphasis on fun and enjoyment! The coach will also be used to prepare children for tournaments, offering specialist training to support: 'Team Broomfield!' Children have a wider variety of activities to keep active and engaged with during lunchtime. Midday supervisors actively engage children in games. To embed the houses further by introducing inter-house competitions for all pupils. To enable the subject leader to develop PE effectively across the school. To model best practice and attend PLT meetings and other CPD events. Increased after school clubs and participation in PE and sport - links with specialist organisations and coaches (seen termly). After-school clubs run by coaches are subsidised by the school and there is no cost to parents. The average take up for each activity is 17 pupils (with 20 being the maximum number). This is an increase on the same time last year. (After-school records) Pupil aptitude survey shows lunchtime games having positive impact on behaviour and engagement. Wider variety of activities in place for pupils at lunchtime. Children are more active and purposefully engaged. (Midday staff responses) Pupil engagement high and sense of competition developed. Teamwork improved. Subject leader is better subject knowledge and demonstrates effective leadership skills. Has a clear understanding of the strengths and areas of development across the school and plans accordingly. Gymnastics training attended and

6 curriculum release time given to audit strengths of the school and the effectiveness of PE teaching across the school. Activities and ideas from the INSET have already begun to be incorporated into sessions. The session identified ways in which children can progress sand how all abilities of pupils can be supports. This information has been passed on to the rest of the staff who are able to differentiate for all abilities more effectively. 150 To promote active learning. Outdoor learning INSET January 2014 Whole school Staff plan in active learning during the week making best use of premises and accommodation. INSET completed in January. Formal lesson observations show a greater proportion of staff using the outdoors to promote learning. E.g. string trails for learning fruit names in French and an orienteering activity to revise spelling and grammar work. Other activities shared on the INSET day have also been incorporated into PE lesson plans.
