1 2014 AGGIE ENRICHMENT CAMP DESCRIPTIONS Paul Robeson Theatre Description: Do you enjoy acting, singing, dancing, writing and crafts? Come join NC A&T's theatre arts summer program with exciting activities that will develop your theatre skills and talents on stage and off. This camp is designed to give young people and teens training in several different areas: acting, improvisation, costume, crafts, movements and voice. Each week has its own theme and culminates with a final performance showcasing the participants' experiences from that week. SEW-LUTIONS Ages: 9-13 Description: R U A FASHIONISTA! Turn your creative desires, ideas, and designs into CATWALK CREATIONS! SEW-LUTIONS. (Learn to Sew) is a simple approach to teaching the basics of sewing: stitching (hand and machine), identifying machine parts, threading machine and bobbin, and basic garment construction (i.e., reading a pattern, laying out, pinning and cutting fabric). By the week's end campers will have been introduced to possible careers in clothing and textiles, sewing green, and construct a simple tote bag or other apparel. Camp finale will showcase campers' creations as they strut their stuff on the Aggie Runway at the AEC weekly program revue. Website Design Description: Want to design and build your own website? Become a webmaster by learning the fundamentals of web design. This camp will have you creating a website from scratch. You will learn color theory, creative text effects, graphics and much more. Make your website stand out by learning how to add flash and animation. Aggie CSI Description: Young Investigators, you have been chosen to uncover several mysteries for Aggie CSI Crime Patrol. You will explore several crime scene investigations with a variety of hands-on activities. Students will learn how to uncover clues on specific crime scene events, identify various types of fingerprints, recognize and describe parts of the human anatomy and interact with community professionals related to forensic pathology.

2 3D Animation Description: Learn the techniques used in making animation movies and games. Develop the design, model and textures of your 3D character. Use animation principles such as timing, anticipation, arcs, pose to pose action and much more to animate your 3D model. Pupils will be introduced to the concepts and practice of designing, modeling and animating their own 3D environment. Create objects and text. Make realistic scenes with textures, transparency and mesh objects. Create cool effects using volume lights. Expand your skills using illustration, and animation. Produce creative animations, illustrations and navigation for short movie scenes. You will start out creating simple objects and text, and then try your hand at adjusting their color, size and shape. Requirements: Basic Computer Operation Skills. Amazing Science Description: ATTENTION Young Einstein! The Amazing Science Camp will have you discovering how exciting science is. Each day campers will be exposed to a specific theme. The camp will daily incorporate literature and science while students are engaged in two hands-on science activities each day. The activities will correlate with North Carolina Standard Course Study Science Objectives. At the conclusion of the camp, the children will have hands-on as well as written assessment that covers the materials covered during the week. Cartoon Drawing Description: Let's create! Ever wonder how your favorite cartoon character was created or how to make your drawing come to life? In this exciting one week camp we will open your eyes and mind to the world of cartoon drawing and computer animation. This camp will ignite your creative juices as you learn the fundamentals of cartoon drawing and how to add emotion, movement and expressions to your drawing. Campers will be introduced to industry techniques used to draw their favorite characters and create their own comic strip. They will have the opportunity to bring their comic strip to life as they learn the wonderful world of computer animation. Presentation of their work will be shared at our weekly closing program and each camper will take home a DVD of their animated creation to share with family and friends. Kids-N-Business/Financial Literacy Description: Let's start a business! This program will focus on introducing participants to business operations, money management, financial planning, understanding the stock market, leadership and

3 teambuilding skills. Participants will learn the day to day operations of running a business, create a business plan, develop a culminated business and much more. Is There a Doctor In the House (Animal Doctor) Description: Wonder what it's like being a veterinarian or just want to take better care of your pet or/and farm animals. Participants of the animal science camp will have the opportunity to learn what it is like to be a veterinarian and how to understand and care for your pet and farm animals. Campers will engage in hands-on activities that will help campers explore the world of laboratory and farm animals. Campers will have an opportunity to be photographed with their favorite animal as a keepsake. Objectives: The objectives of the Animal Science Summer Camp Program are: 1. To develop and foster life skills through positive interactions with others. 2. To teach scientific principles of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine to young people (How to care for Animals). 3. To increase the awareness of animal industry and farm management issues among youth. 4. To inform youth about careers in animal agriculture and educational opportunities at NCA&TSU. Lights, Camera, Action Description: See what it's like operating a camera or editing a program or being an anchor person on your own news station. You will learn this and much more at the media workshop where we will introduce you to TV camera, editing, special effects and TV production. This camp is designed to inform participants of the host of careers in TV production and explore the field of Journalism and Mass Communication. Participants will produce and record a program at the end of the camp. Art Camps Description: Attention young artist! Do you enjoy drawing and painting? Do you draw portraits and cartoons? Would you like to take your skills to the next level? At this camp we will explore drawing, painting, and even sculpture. That's right; bring your drawings to life! We are here to help you explore your artistic abilities and use your artistic potential to the fullest.

4 Engineering Exploration Description: Ever wonder how a space shuttle ventures to outer space? How your favorite game system was made or how your favorite candy is made? Learn about how engineers design, construct and improve our favorite everyday items, from houses to computers to food products. Explore the various fields of engineering through hands on activities related to those fields. Students will design and build various models of houses, rockets and even make slime using everyday items. Models built by students will compete in weekly contests. Reading & Storybook Writing Description: Do you like to write stories? Need to improve your reading skills? Well, we re waiting for you. This intense but fun camp will help increase your read skills and in courage participants to explore their hidden talents in writing stories, poems, songs etc. Robotics Description: During this week-long experience, participants will be introduced to the skills necessary to build and program a robot kit provided by the camp. Participants will develop programming logic through use of the NXT Mindstorms kits. Students will also learn the basic concepts of teamwork as they work together in small groups. The camp will culminate with students being challenged to develop a robotic design that responds to a themed, objective-oriented challenge that represents a real world problem. High school students will learn and develop the same techniques need to program and build robotic using a different type of robot. Math Wiz Description: Campers will be introduced to learning math in a fun way using interactive games like math, jeopardy, brain teasers, flash cards, puzzles and several hands-on activities individually and in a team environment. Lessons are geared to help camper to gain skills and techniques related to their upcoming school year, to catch up on skills missed the previous school year and build confidence in math. Technology Mastering (Using TI-83 graphing calculators to solve challenging mathematical equations) 8th Grade Description: Students will learn how to use the TI-83 graphing calculator. This course is design for students to have a working knowledge of the TI-83 graphing calculator by using Sample Keying Sequences activities; such as solving equations, drawing figures and their dilation, graphing the system of equations, graphing functions, and the line of best fit. These activities

5 will provide information that can facilitate students use of technology in their study of mathematics. These activities can be used to motivate the learning of a particular concept or they can be used to reinforce a concept. A prerequisite for this summer camp is that all students have at least a C in Algebra I.
