1 Camp Chief Ouray Job Descriptions FOOD SERVICE STAFF Kitchen Manager Responsible for all operations of the camp kitchen, in accordance with Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment rules and regulations, including but not limited to: food preparation, food ordering, cleanliness of kitchen facility, and supervision of one assistant and eight staff members. $580/week, May 12 th - September 7 th Assistant Kitchen Manager Responsible for assisting with all duties of the Kitchen Manager. (See Kitchen Manager for more information.) $220/week, May 12 th - September 7 th Kitchen Assistant Responsible for food preparation for all camp meals. Responsible for cleanliness of camp kitchen, dining hall facility, and dishes. $180/week, May 20 th - August 16 th TRADITIONAL CAMP STAFF Cabin Counselor Provide leadership for cabin groups and be able to organize, plan and run at least one area of camp program. All cabin counselors must be at least 18 years old. At least half of all counselors must either be 20 years old and/or have completed one year of college. Lifeguard certification is a plus. $180/week, May 27 th - August 16 th Challenger Counselor Responsible for coordinating and supervising the programming for oldest teens in regular camp (ages 13-14). You will remain with this unique teen group for all day and evening programs. Preferably 20 years or older. Lifeguard certification is a plus $180/week, May 24 th - August 16 th Cabin Counselor/Arts & Crafts Specialist Responsible for the care and well-being of your cabin of campers. Responsible for program development, lesson plans, training and implementation of arts and crafts area. Responsible for equipment, supplies and inventory. Insure quality of program offered to increase learning and enjoyment of all campers. $185/week May 25 th - Aug. 16 th
2 Cabin Counselor/Target Specialist Responsible for the care and well-being of your cabin of campers. Responsible for program development, lesson plans, training and implementation of assigned program area. Responsible for equipment, supplies and inventory. Insure quality of program offered to increase learning and enjoyment of all campers. Experience with archery/riflery preferred, certification required and offered in May. $185/week May 25 th - August 16 th Village Leaders Two Individuals (one male, one female) will be responsible for creating a friendly living environment that all campers can enjoy. These positions will require a supervisory role of all counselors in their respective villages, provide counselors with feedback, oversee program areas, and serve as a liaison between cabin staff and the rest of administrative staff. 1-2 years counselor experience preferred. Challenger Program Coordinator Responsible for coordination, scheduling, support and leadership of the Challenger Program in cabin life and cabin programs. Supervise the 6 challenger staff. Responsible for organizing and caring for all program supplies and activities. Must have previous camp experience and be at least 21 years old. Lifeguard certification is a plus. Master of Fun & Games Responsible for coordination, scheduling, support and leadership of counselors in both cabin life and camp program. Produce weekly schedule of events relevant to theme weeks; plan and implement games and events for 200+ campers and staff; and monitor Vespers to ensure quality. Responsible for organizing and caring for all program supplies. Must have previous camp experience and be at least 21 years old. Challenge Course Director Responsible for coordination, support and leadership of counselors in both cabin life and cabin program. Supervise all facets of low and high Ropes Course elements including staff training, facilitation, and course maintenance. Coordinate ropes course activities for Leadership/Adventure groups. A solid technical background working on a ropes course is required. Must have previous camp experience and be at least 21 years old. BARN STAFF Barn Director Supervise Western Riding Program (five levels including beginning to advanced) and staff (Riding Assistants/ Wranglers and Horse Specialists). Organize and run week-long training for riding staff. Responsible for care of horses, tack, equipment, barn, and pasture areas. Must be at least 21 years old. $245/week, May 12 th - August 16 th
3 Cabin Counselor/Wrangler Perform Cabin Counselor duties but program area teaching responsibility would be in the various levels of our Riding Program. All Wranglers are required to attend a one week training prior to regular staff training. $185/week, May 19 th - August 16 th Horse Specialist Responsible for teaching advanced horseback riding lessons (High Rider level) in addition to working with the Wrangler In Training program and CIT (Horse specific kids). Provide leadership and horsemanship instruction for the Wrangler-In-Training program & CIT s. Lead out-of-camp pack trips. Horse Specialists are also responsible for assisting the Barn Director with cabin rides, the riding program and care and maintenance of horses, tack, facilities and pasture areas. One week of training prior to regular staff training is required. Preferably 20 years old. $200/week, May 19 th - August 16 th LEADERSHIP TRAINING PROGRAMS/ BACKCOUNTRY TRIP STAFF Trail Department Coordinator Responsible for working with LTP Leaders and Trip Leaders to organize/maintain backcountry equipment. Responsible for repairing equipment as needed. Serve as resource for trip staff. Responsible for helping to drive trips to/from trail heads as needed. Coordinate and lead service projects for LTP campers. Coordinate food packing for all backcountry trips. Necessary qualifications include demonstrated organizational skills, past trip leading experience, and backcountry food packing experience. Must be 21 years of age. $200/week, May 17 th - August 16 th LIT (Leader-In-Training)/ Adventure Trip Leader Responsible for leading 3 sessions of the LIT program as well as leading Adventure trips throughout the summer. Backpacking experience, outdoor living skills, and group work with teens a must. Experience planning lessons and teaching leadership skills required. Experience teaching leadership skills in a wilderness setting preferred. Preferably 21+ with a good driving record. SIT (Specialist-In-Training) Leader Provide leadership for Specialist-in-Training program. Outdoor living skills, previous group work with teens a must. Experience in backpacking/mountain biking required. Rafting experience preferred. Experience with ropes course and facilitation techniques preferred. Experience developing lesson plans and teaching leadership skills required. Experience teaching leadership skills in a wilderness setting preferred. Preferred 21 years old, potentially 20 years old. CIT Coordinator Responsible for scheduling, coordinating, and leading the CIT (Counselor-in-Training) program. Maintain positive relationship with cabin staff in order to keep communication open for the benefit of CIT campers. Promote enrollment within the Leadership Training Program. Maintain an active role in staff development. Assist in camp programs and camp living areas as needed. Must be at least 21 years of age with previous camp experience, demonstrated leadership, ropes course experience and capable of assuming a leadership role within the LTP and main camp.
4 Trip Leader Responsible for leading in-camp activities and out of camp trips for campers in backpacking, rafting, and mountain biking programs. Previous experience leading wilderness trips and/or student experience with NOLS, Outward Bound, or similar programs required. Demonstrated leadership skills and work with teens important. Responsible for food pack-out and equipment organization and maintenance through the Trail Department. Preferably 21+ with a good driving record. OFFICE STAFF Camp Nurse Supervise Health Center. Administer First Aid and medications as needed to CCO as well as conference center guests. Maintain required forms, logs, and act as a liaison with camp physician. Assist in staff training to provide staff with appropriate knowledge. Previous camp experience and RN preferred. Must be 21. Negotiable Salary. May 17 th - August 16 th Daily Program Director Responsible for coordination, scheduling, support and leadership of counselors in both cabin life and cabin program. Responsible for reviewing, maintaining, and evaluating camp's 9 program areas. Responsible for organizing and caring for all program supplies and tracking program numbers. Must have previous camp experience and preferably be at least 21 years old. Facilities Coordinator Responsible for coordinating the assignment and proper execution of all camp cleaning chores on a daily basis and maintaining the cleaning supplies inventory for the entire camp. Other duties include coordination of all lost and found and assisting the Camp Nurse with coverage of the Health Center between 2-4 pm daily. Also responsible for managing the camp birthday program. Must be 21 years old. Travel Coordinator Coordinate, schedule, organize and troubleshoot all camp travel and vehicle needs including airport arrivals/departures, adventure program trips, local travel needs, medical clinic visits, purchasing errands, and other duties as assigned. Will also drive camp vehicles when needed. Must be at least 21 years old, organized, responsible, and have a clean driving record. Travel Assistant Responsible for safe transportation of campers and staff in all facets of camp program. This includes, but is not limited to, airport arrivals/departures, dropping off and picking up adventure trip campers and staff at trail heads, general errands and taking ill/injured campers/staff to the medical clinic if needed. Must be at least 21 years old, organized, responsible, and have a clean driving record. $185/week, May 20 th - August 16 th
5 Media Intern Create, promote, and manage media materials for website, blog, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook account. Photograph campers in their various activities as well as record and edit a brief video for each session highlighting the theme every week. Create a marketing video that can be used during the year to promote camp. Applicants that have their own camera/video camera and editing equipment preferred. $180/week, May 25 th - September 7 th (dates are flexible) Assistant Registrar Assists camp administrative personnel in various tasks in all aspects of camp operations. Primary responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, office duties, program/cabin duties, and other administrative duties as assigned. Some office experience preferred. Must be at least 18 years old. $180/week, May 20 th - August 16 th
