1 Appendix III: List of market pull activities for IEA Hi- Motors competition, status June 1997 FINLAND The Finnish buyer group is co-ordinated by MOTIVA, Information Center for Energy Efficiency. MOTIVA was organised by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and it started operations in 1993 to co-ordinate and actively pursue the Finnish national energy efficiency programme. MOTIVA co-operates with energy users, producers and associated organisations in all sectors. In joint projects MOTIVA is frequently a partner with companies producing equipment and systems or offering services with the purpose of improving energy efficiency. MOTIVA collects information of good practice, in existing schemes or those demonstrated for this purpose. Information is processed and supplied to the various target groups in close co-operation with key companies and organisations. As the only energy efficiency organisation in Finland, MOTIVA participates in international co-operation for sharing new information and for transferring technologies between the co-operating countries. In the IEA Hi-Motors competition MOTIVA works as a co-ordinator for Finland. In Finland MOTIVA has personally through a consultant contacted several industrial companies during the winter 96/97. In these contacts the persons responsible for purchasing motors or equipment with motors have been presented the Hi-Motors competition requirements with background feasibility studies and asked to sign a written commitment to join the buyer group. The buyers have signed a written statement: "The intention of participation to the project for high efficient induction motors (Hi-Motors) We are interested in high efficient induction motors. We are ready to ask for offers of motors meeting the requirements of the procurement competition. We are ready to require the suppliers to use the defined Hi-Motors when we purchase pumps, fans, compressors, refrigeration systems etc. where the motors are included. The final decisions of purchasing we make after we receive the price and technical data from the technology procurement competition." The signed commitment forms from companies with detailed data of motors in use, annual motor purchases, criteria of motor purchase, persons responsible etc. have been collected to MOTIVA. Also several unwritten commitments or expressions of interest have been received from various companies and organisations (e.g. the major engineering consultant company in paper and pulp industry Jaakko Pöyry Ltd). The buyers will be urged to make their purchase decisions based on life cycle cost calculations.
