Food synergy is the interaction of food elements which combine to produce a total nutritional effect greater than the sum of its parts. For example, eating broccoli and tomatoes together is healthier than eating each of them alone according to research that shows this combo becomes an anti-cancer superpower. Many groupings of foods can produce wonderful flavor, but many of those familiar and not so familiar combinations can produce fantastic health benefits. The key to good health may not be just the healthy foods you eat, but how you combine them. Betty and Barb will demonstrate a seasonal menu that is quick, easy, tasty, wholesome, and economical! Come enjoy this cooking demonstration with samples and recipes for all! 9 Taking Cancer Care to a New Level Coming together will set us apart. ProHealth Care and two other leading Wisconsin health care systems are working together to enhance cancer care for patients in Waukesha County and surrounding communities. ProHealth Care and UW Health will co-manage ProHealth Care s new cancer center in Pewaukee. In addition, several Aurora Health Care cancer specialists will deliver care at the center. The state-of-the-art cancer center nearing completion just off Interstate 94 in Pewaukee is the centerpiece of the new partnership. The building, which will open August 10, will bring together at one convenient location all of the physicians, staff, diagnostic and treatment technology cancer patients need. At the new cancer center, patients will benefit from the expertise of cancer specialists from all three health care systems. Together, they will help ensure that cancer care will be comprehensive and easy to navigate for patients. Multi-disciplinary case conferences will address all aspects of a cancer patient s needs, reduce variation in care and improve outcomes. Comprehensive treatment plans will be developed for patients and a nurse navigator will guide them through treatment. The new cancer center We will focus on providing a superior patient experience one that recognizes the stress of a cancer diagnosis and surrounds patients with the support they need. The center will feature: Group or private space for 28 infusion patients Comprehensive radiation therapy services, including external beam radiation, Cyberknife robotic radiosurgery and brachytherapy An extensive array of diagnostic tools Cancer rehabilitation services A retail store offering wigs and prostheses Integrative medicine services Space for community education events A café Join us at our open house! Saturday, July 18 from 9 a.m. to noon Tour the cancer center and adjacent multi-specialty clinic, meet our care teams, enjoy refreshments and receive a free gift. 11 Whatever the Weather Presented by Sharon Coyle Muskego September 22 Brookfield September 23 2:00 p.m. New Berlin September 25 The introduction of the electric telegraph in 1844 combined with the recommendations of Dr. Increase A. Lapham to create a government weather service were the beginnings of weather forecasting. Lapham is considered Wisconsin s first great scientist and the father of the U.S. Weather Service. Find out more about the history of weather reporting from storyteller and history buff Sharon Coyle as she explains how weather was charted in days gone by. She ll also share some weather-related facts sure to wow your friends and family. The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald Presented by Rochelle Pennington Muskego September 24 2:00 p.m. The Edmund Fitzgerald sank 40 years ago this November in a severe Lake Superior storm. The ship was bound for a steel mill near Detroit and suddenly sank a little after 7:10 p.m. without sending a distress signal. Her crew of 29 was lost in the icy waters. Discovered in May 1976, the wreckage sits 530 feet below on the lake floor. Although it s one of thousands of shipwrecks along the Great Lakes, it s easily the most famous memorialized in a 1976 song by Gordon Lightfoot, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald. What sank the Edmund Fitzgerald that night? Did the ship succumb to the Witch of November, the gale-force winds that blow across the Great Lakes in autumn? Why have more ships been lost on the Great Lakes in November than in any other month? Did the ship s middle buckle, due to waves? Award-winning newspaper columnist and author Rochelle Pennington presents various theories about one of the most well-known shipwrecks in the Great Lakes.
