1 Business Name Lafayette Resident and family Newsletter SEPTEMBER 2013 Medicare Open Enrollment Open Enrollment is the time of year to check your current Medicare advantage plan or prescription drug plan coverage and compare it to other plans on the market. Even if your current policy seems to work for you, it is a good idea to check out what s new. The only way to make sure that your Medicare insurance continues to match your health care needs, is to compare your current plan to other plans that are offered by your current insurance company or other health care providers in your area. The Medicare Open Enrollment period for Medicare Advantage plans (Part C ) and Prescription Drug Coverage Plans is from October 15th through December 7, Any change you make during the Open Enrollment period will take effect on January 1st, Remember that if you don t use this window of opportunity, you cannot make any changes to your coverage before October of the next year. VOLUME 2, ISSUE 9 September Fun Facts: More children are born on September 16 than any other day. New York City became the capitol of the United States on September 13, Medicare Advantage Plan Changes: During this period you may join a Medicare Advantage plan with or with out prescription coverage if you have original Medicare. You may also cancel your current advantage plan and return to original Medicare. If you already have a Medicare Advantage Plan, you may switch to another advantage plan with or without drug coverage. Prescription Drug Plan Changes: If you have original Medicare and no drug coverage, you may add a prescription plan. If you already have Medicare drug coverage, you may switch to a different plan, or drop your current coverage. 5 Star Special Enrollment Period for Medicare Advantage Plans There is a special enrollment period for 5 star advantage plans. You may join or switch between 5 -star rated advantage plans at any time during the year once per year. 5 Star plans are marked with a golden star in the Medicare.gov plan finder. Dis-Enrollment Period 2013 for Medicare Advantage plans During the Annual Dis-Enrollment period, you may elect to dis-enroll from your current Medicare advantage plan and return to original Medicare. You also have the chance to join a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan. The 2013 Medicare Dis-Enrollment period is from January 1st through February 14,2014. 2 Page 2 The Cupcake Truck comes to Lafayette! On August 14 th, residents from Healthcare, Personal Care, and the Independent apartments lined up in the parking lot for a delicious cupcake from the Butter Cream Cupcake Lady! For her special project during her internship in the Healthcare Recreation department, Temple University student Melissa Van Wert contacted the cupcake truck to come to Lafayette for a special event for the residents. The truck waived its initial fee to come for the event, and after two successful bake sales to raise money, each resident was able to have one cupcake paid for by Holy Redeemer! The residents enjoyed the beautiful summer weather outside eating their tasty treats. It was a fun afternoon for everyone who came out and a new and unique event brought here to Lafayette! It was a fun afternoon for everyone who came out.

3 Page 3 Summer Carnival The Residents of Parkview and Woodview celebrated the end of summer with a carnival in the Parkview Dining Room! First, residents enjoyed tasty carnival treats like corndogs, soft pretzels, funnel cake, and ice cream cones! Then they participated in some traditional carnival games like ring toss, basketball throw, bean bag toss, and sink the ball. The afternoon ended with a Wii carnival games competition; residents competed in events like the hi-striker, knock over the milk bottles, and ski ball. The residents of Lafayette enjoyed celebrating the end of a fantastic summer!
