The program embraces the construction management and quantity surveying fields of study which are generally considered to fall within the management disciplines and financial administration of building projects through their life cycle. BUILD YOUR IDEAS FROM THE GROUND UP...LIKE JOSEPH who studied the Bachelor of Construction Management and Economics After completing Year 12, Joseph knew that he wanted a career in the construction industry. He chose to study at Holmesglen because of the pathway options available to him. Joseph began his studies in the Diploma of Building and then smoothly transitioned into the Bachelor of Construction Management & Economics. He credits the staff at Holmesglen for making his learning experience so positive. Being taught by industry professionals brought a practicality to the program which made it quite unique and enabled me to consider day to day occurrences onsite. Upon completing his qualification, Joseph gained employment at Qanstruct as a Contract Administrator and hopes one day to become a project manager. 17

The role of a forensic scientist is to present objective evidence and opinions that will assist the court with their deliberation process. With this emphasis in mind, the degree structure incorporates a strong foundation in the biological and chemical sciences in conjunction with the study of forensics. The forensic subjects delivered throughout the program provide you with the necessary skills required to apply scientific principles and techniques in the investigation of criminal acts. Forensic scientists are often among the first at disaster scenes and Australian practitioners have been involved in resolving human tragedies such as the Victorian bushfires in 2009, the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004 and the Bali bombings in 2002 and Program emphasis is on the laboratory-based fields of forensic biology and forensic chemistry, and covers areas such as the collection and examination of trace evidence, forensic evidence and the law, toxicology, forensic statistics, specialised chemical/biological analysis, and the interpretation and reporting of analytical results. Graduates are well placed to pursue employment in forensic science laboratories as well as general biological, biochemical and analytical laboratories. 23

The justice sector is evolving rapidly to meet the changing environmental, economic, social and cultural demands facing society. This program is also an ideal professional development program for people already employed in the justice sector who wish to advance their careers and extend their capabilities and opportunities. Graduates of the Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Justice Studies may continue their pathway into higher education with this degree, and will receive months credit. The qualification will provide you with the theoretical and practical basis you need to work as an effective change agent across the broad range of justice sector agencies dealing with issues in both government and non-government organisations. You will develop an understanding of the justice system, its structure, concepts and underlying principles. In addition, you will be introduced to the issues that arise in developing, managing, and administering policy in justice environments and learn the skills necessary to undertake those tasks successfully. Students will undertake a capstone unit in their final year of study by way of a justice studies internship to integrate their learning in the first two years of the degree. You are prepared for practice through a combination of on campus theory and the latest simulation activities, as well as supported clinical practice in a variety of health care settings. Gain exposure to nursing practice early within the program, and become familiar with the range of clinical placements offered reflecting the diverse roles of nursing today. Prior to undertaking clinical placement you must be prepared to declare your health and immunisation status, complete a National Police Records Check annually and hold a valid Working with Children Check. As a Holmesglen graduate you will be qualified to become an early childhood teacher and be eligible to register with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) as a primary school teacher, specialising in the teaching and learning of children from birth to eight years. The degree program is organised into four major streams of study: The Child in Focus; Curriculum, Pedagogy and Learning; Professional Practice; and Practicum (placement in schools and classrooms). Holmesglen places a strong emphasis on the practical application of theory.
