2 Background Established in 2004 Collaborative efforts of North Country Education Services (NCES) Agency and nine School District Superintendents Original start up grant that was part of the $7.1 million national grant that NH received in August 2003 to authorize up to 20 public charter schools ( RSA 194-B:3-a ). Some funding from supporting districts Some funding from grants.

3 MISSION To provide a learning environment for students who would benefit from a nontraditional high school setting. Students who are or may be at risk of dropping out will be provided an educational setting in which they can succeed in their pursuit of a high school diploma. The Charter Academy staff works collaboratively with all students, parents, NCCA Board of Trustee members, North Country high school principals, guidance counselors, other educational team members and school superintendents of all sending districts. The above named Educational Team will also work together to see to it that the North Country Charter Academy students are given the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, emotionally and physically both today and in the future.

8 Student Referral Process Referral Received From Sending School Reviewed for completeness Passed on to Center Director to Schedule Interview Interview with student and parent(s) / guardian(s) Usually an hour or so in length this is the chance for the staff to really get to get a true feel fro the commitment of the student and parent/guardian All expectations discussed and agreed upon Parent-Student Contract Signed Student may be able to start immediately or may be put on waiting list If put on waiting list continued updates with school and family take place until student is able to begin

9 Student Expectations Philosophy Students maintain self discipline and work toward the goal of a high school diploma, doing this in a way of performing as though it were a job or a business. Attendance Maintain 90% Call in if going to be absent If it drops below 90% an attendance contract will be put into effect. Center Rules Violation could result in: Contract Immediate dismissal Law enforcement involvement Generally, it is immediate administrative leave until a meeting takes place with parent and student to resolve the issue
