5 Cheating/Plagiarism 8 Cheating Webster s Dictionary defines cheating as to influence or lead by deceit; to practice fraud or trickery; to violate rules dishonestly. Students earn grades through completion of their own homework, tests, projects, papers, etc. In order to present an accurate reflection of what they have accomplished, students must complete their own work. Students who take other s work and use it as their own or give their own work to another student are considered cheating. The consequences for cheating include a failing grade and disciplinary action, such as removal from the program. Plagiarism Webster s Dictionary defines plagiarism as the act of stealing and passing off ideas or words of another as one s own use without crediting the source; to commit literary theft. Students who plagiarize will not receive full credit for the assignment/test/project/work and may receive a zero on the assignment depending upon the quantity of material plagiarized. If the situation is serious enough, as assessed by the Y-Online Administrator, additional disciplinary action may be applied which may include, but not be limited to immediate removal from the class and a grade of F recorded on the student s transcript. Proven cases of cheating/plagiarism in the same course of study on or after the second time will result in a failing grade for the marking period in the course. Cheating or plagiarism involving more than one course will also be considered repetitive, and may result in failing grades or removal from the program. Continuation in Program Students work in the Y-Online program will be closely monitored by an instructor. Students showing success and the ability to progress in the program will be encouraged to continue, if they so choose. Students that struggle to complete work or fail to log into Plato for (5) consecutive days will be given a written warning. Failure to comply to the student expectations, listed on page 6, will result in removal from the program and possible withdrawal from Youngstown City Schools. Options Option 2 Full Time Virtual Learning with a career technical component (grades 11 and 12 only) Students attend Choffin C & TC for a two and a half hours per day for one of the many career and technical courses offered. More information on these courses can be found in the Choffin C & TC brochure. **A separate application must be completed for the Choffin courses if selecting this option. Attendance to the career tech class is a requirement. Excessive absences can lead to removal from the program. Students are also required to attend Y-Online Computer Lab a minimum of two hours a week. Option 3 Full Time Virtual Learning grades 9-12 Option 1 Full Time Virtual Learning grades 9-12 Students attend Y-Online Computer Lab full time with a minimum of three hours a day Monday- Friday Students are required to attend Y-Online Computer Lab a minimum of two hours a week.
