1 Valley Center Public Schools Counseling Calendar for High School Grades 9 & 10 Ongoing Individual - SIT meetings new referrals and existing students meetings new referrals and existing students - IEP meetings new referrals and existing students - Meeting with teachers about students - Crisis counseling - Homeless students - Christmas Kids - Referral services - Parent consultation - Set up and lead meetings that parents request with all a student s teachers - Attend regular staff meetings; continue professional development - KBOR graduation requirements - NCAA requirements for college eligibility - Committee tasks - Attend IEP meetings for Special Education - Attend building/district in-service meetings - Plan and prepare for fall and spring assessments - Bus duty as assigned - All other duties as assigned August Individual - Enroll new students - Balance class size and adjust schedules prior to the start of classes - Post summer school grades and review schedules for needed adjustments - Re-classify students based upon summer school grades - Work with Special Education teachers to insure students are enrolled properly according to their IEP - Check to insure that freshmen students are properly enrolled with special attention to math and science classes - Check for students on 504 s or SIP s and notify teachers accordingly - Check schedules for same teacher in year-long core classes - Note schedule with gaps in them and fix these - During 1 st 10 days meet individually with students to make requested schedule changes - Check in with students from my SIT caseload from previous year - Welcome students new to the district - Consult with teachers who have academic concerns on students - Bring above concerns to SIT as appropriate - Review SIT/SIP/ GEI process with school staff - Contact any teacher who may have students still in the GEI process
2 from the previous year - Review 504/SIP process and discuss 504 s/sip s in place with individual teachers - Attend Open House - Continue to enroll new students - Assist with enrollment - Assist with first day of school - college and career readiness opportunities for students September Individual - SIT meetings new referrals and existing students (meets bi-weekly) - Consult with teachers on students as needed - Begin planning for fall assessments - Assist in administration of ACT tests - Organize support to give ACT- PLAN assessment to all Sophomores October Individual - SIT meetings new referrals and existing students - Prepare F letters to send home after 1 st nine week progress report - Anti Bullying awareness week activities - Yellow Ribbon (suicide prevention training) with all freshmen students - Attend build staff meetings and Counseling PLC meetings - Insure that students taking fall assessments are properly registered - Red Ribbon week - Assist in administration of ACT tests - Administer PSAT - Attend Futures Fair - Finalize planning for giving the ACT- PLAN assessment to Sophomores November Individual - SIT meetings new referral and existing students - Attend training for state assessments - Begin looking at spring class loads and work to adjust where needed
3 - Continue preparing for fall assessments - Coordinate the publicity and selection process for determining a HOBY ambassador for VCHS (sophomores) - Administer the ACT- Plan assessment to all Sophomores December Individual - SIT meetings new referrals and existing students - Check for holes in spring schedules and call in students as needed to fix - Meet with students who request a schedule change for spring semester - Consult with teachers on spring schedule re: students in wrong classes - Coordinate the administration of fall assessments January Individual - Review grades for 9 th and 10 th grades students for problems - Review spring schedules for any problems - Evaluate transcripts once 1 st semester grades are posted - SIT meetings new referrals and existing students - During 1 st 10 days, meet with students who request a schedule change - Consult with teachers on students improperly enrolled for 2 nd semester - Enroll new students coming at beginning of the semester - Prepare letters for parents of students who failed 1 st Semester classes - Insure that students needing fall assessments are tested before fall assessment window closes - Begin preparations and planning for enrollment for next year - Continue planning for and organizing spring assessments February Individual - Update student requirement sheets in preparation for enrollment - Set dates with other counselor and administration for enrollment meetings (both students by grade level and parent meetings) - Start interviews with individual students concerning course selections for next year - SIT meetings new referrals and existing students - Consult with teachers as needed on concerns about students
4 - Conduct group enrollment meeting with Freshmen - Continue planning for and organizing spring assessments March Individual - SIT meetings new referrals and existing students - Continue meeting individually with freshmen on enrollment - Prepare F letters to send home after 3 rd nine week progress reports - Participate in and present for 8 th grade parent enrollment meeting - Conduct enrollment meeting for 8 th graders - Visit 8 th grade students in their science class to collect enrollment forms - Finalize preparations for spring assessments April Individual - SIT meetings new referrals and existing students - Meet with any students or parents with enrollment questions - Participate in master schedule building meetings - Assist in evaluating the mass course requests for next year - Coordinate administration of spring assessments - Work on fall schedules as we are ready to begin this process May Individual - SIT meetings new referrals and existing students - Meet individually with all freshmen who have not completed enrollment for next year - Once final grades are in evaluate freshmen transcripts for failures in required classes and insufficient credits to advance to sophomore year - Once final grades are in evaluate sophomore transcripts for students with insufficient credits to advance to junior status - Prepare letters for parents of students who failed 2 nd semester classes - Participate in master schedule building meetings - Work with teachers who submit lists of students approved or not approved for classes for next year
5 - Review and renew any active 504 plans and pass on to the junior senior counselor the records for any of next year s juniors - Work on student schedules for next year - Attend staff and in-service meetings June - Evaluate transcripts and student schedules to insure that they are complete and ready for fall semester
