2 Indeed, entrepreneurship s focus on the pragmatic can channel the ambition and talent of young people away from fanciful speculation and toward concrete projects. As a magnet for the authentic integration of varied fields of learning and as a bridge between theory and practice, entrepreneurship is a superb vehicle with which to achieve the aims of the broad, effective, and integrated learning that marks a strong college education. 3 The Abu Dhabi School of Management The Abu Dhabi School of Management s vision is to become the leading internationally benchmarked institute of higher learning in the UAE and Gulf region, offering undergraduate and graduate management degrees within an entrepreneurial ecosystem. As we have globally entered into an entirely new economy, it logically follows that we need an entirely new approach to management. Where the old economy relied on production and labor, the new economy relies on knowledge and innovation. As such, managers will have to learn to create, optimize, adapt, and innovate. In other words, managers will have to become entrepreneurs. By educating students to become entrepreneurial managers, we aim to indoctrinate graduates with a unique mode of thought and action which is cross-applicable to any sector or initiative. The Abu Dhabi School of Management seeks to produce a new cadre of entrepreneurial managers highly talented graduates equipped in the science of management who take the lead in innovating, improving, and enhancing their environments - whether they find themselves in a start-up venture, a corporation, a governmental organization, or whether it is the community at large. 4 DISCOVER YOUR STRENGTHS, PURSUE YOUR PASSIONS, AND CREATE YOUR OWN PATH TO SUCCESS Bachelor of Science in Business Management The Bachelor of Science in Business Management program objectives are designed to produce entrepreneurs who may start new business or social ventures or enter an organization as an employee. In either case, ADSM graduates will be skilled at finding and shaping opportunities in any content or form of work. The program seeks to develop graduates who are cognitively ambidextrous- that is, they can use analytical logic and techniques when faced with known forms of risk and uncertainty and entrepreneurial logic when faced with extreme uncertainty to the point of unknowability. Concentrations To complete their Bachelor of Science degree, students have the option of choosing one of two concentration streams- the Business Management concentration and the Entrepreneurship concentration. These concentrations enable students to gain further knowledge and understand the theoretical foundations and practical intricacies of these respective fields within the context of the knowledge economy. 4

5 Program Learning Goals The learning goals of the Bachelor of Science in Business Management program are: Deep Functional Knowledge of Business Graduates will have a strong competency in various business subjects, including Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Quantitative Business Analysis, Marketing, Legal and Social Environment, Information Systems, and International Issues. Entrepreneurial and Critical Thinking Graduates will be able to apply entrepreneurial thinking to identify, assess, and shape opportunities in situations of extreme uncertainty and complexity. Communication & Teamwork Skills Graduates will possess effective interpersonal and communication skills to enable them to lead and function effectively in diverse teams. International/Global Awareness Graduates will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of cultural differences, and recognize the impact of globalization on management practices and entrepreneurial activities on the local as well as the world economy. Quantitative and Technology Literacy Graduates will be able to solve business problems using quantitative methods and relevant computer applications such as spreadsheets to manipulate data and statistical software to analyze data, and databases to generate queries and reports. Ethics, Social and Environmental Responsibility Graduates will be able to demonstrate an ability to make decisions based and take action based on values that recognize their ethical, social and environmental responsibilities. 5

6 Signature Learning Experiences The Bachelor of Science in Business Management program contains a ground-breaking feature called Signature Learning Experiences (SLEs) where students receive funding to start and run a real business, sell actual products and services, and make real money as part of coursework. Building off the classroom curriculum, the SLE experiences reinforce and expand classroom learning through hands-on activities that require students to put theories into practice. The focus is not only on the development of the business skills necessary to be successful in an ever changing global environment, but also to give the students the skill sets necessary to manage themselves and others in this context. Specifically, the SLE s: Allow students to experience Entrepreneurial Thought and Action; Give relevance and context to primary course material; Are supported by Just-in-Time self learning modules that build practical knowledge and skills; Demonstrate the interdisciplinary nature of business; and Develop soft-skills such as team work, interpersonal communications, formal presentations, time management motivation. 6

7 Bachelor of Science in Business Management Degree Completion Requirements In order to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree, students must complete a minimum total of 121 credit hours during their attendance at ADSM. The total credit hours are inclusive of elective coursework from social and natural sciences, one 18 credit hour concentration, and 6 credit hours of a research methods course and an internship /capstone project. 8 Business Management Concentration The Business Management concentration will provide students with an in-depth study of critical and contemporary business management areas. These areas have been identified as being vital for the success of both the modern enterprise and today s entrepreneurial manager. 9 Entrepreneurship Concentration The skills and competencies gained within the Entrepreneurship concentration are vital for the success of any business or organization, including nascent start-ups, corporations, family business, non-profit ventures, global entities, franchises, or any other setting. Entrepreneurship concentrators will apply entrepreneurial Thought and Action both academically as well as in real world settings. 10 Undergraduate Admission Requirements Results reports from school grades 10, 11 and 12, if available when applying. Once admitted, applicants must submit final grade reports and graduation certificate certified/attested by the UAE Ministry of Education; Official copy of International TOEFL or Academic IELTS results, if available upon application; students should achieve a minimum TOEFL score of 500 (CBT 173, ibt 61) or its equivalent in a standardized, internationally-recognized English language test approved by the Commission for Academic Accreditation, e.g. 5.0 IELTS; For transfer students, official transcripts from all previously attended colleges/universities. Transfer students must be in good academic standing, i.e. minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 out of a 4.0 scale, or its equivalent; 4 passport sized photographs; Copy of valid passport and UAE visa (residency page for expatriates residing in the UAE); and Non-refundable application fee of AED
