2 Welcome to Tirol The destination Tirol bordering on Germany, Italy and Switzerland provides an insight into Central European life with a unique blend of nature and culture. Proud peaks and picturesque valleys, rugged rocks and green pastures, sparkling mountain lakes and breathtaking glaciers. The beauty of the landscape, the cultural sights and the friendliness of the local people annually attract over 8 million visitors from all over the world including filmmakers. The Imperial Alps program of the Tirol Tourist Board features the most favourite and picturesque spots for the Indians. Hitherto more than 70 Indian film productions e.g. parts of Devgan s Raju Chacha starring Ajay Devgan and Kajol or Nitin Manmohan s Chal Mere Bhai directed by David Dhawan featuring Salman Khan and Karisma Kapoor have been shot in Tirol. Indian filmteams visit Tirol mainly to shoot dance and song sequences, among them Ishq Hai Tumse starring Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea, the telegu productions Ela Cheppanu, Vishnu and Okariki Okaru and, just recently, Subash Ghai s production Yuvraaj with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. Many of the Indian filmmakers were highly impressed by the beauty of Tirol s mountain scenery, saying It s just like paradise!. Cine Tirol the film commission of the Austrian province Tirol was founded in 1998 to promote Tirol as an attractive location for international film productions. With professionalism, flexibility and creativity the Cine Tirol Team provides comprehensive support for all filmmakers this has enabled international film productions like The Bear, Seven Years in Tibet, Last Holiday or xxx to be made or partially made in Tirol. French director Jean-Jacques Annaud, who has visited Tirol twice, comments, Tirol provides the efficiency of Germany, the beauty of Switzerland and the charm of Italy. 5 What Bollywood says about Tirol Tirol has already inspired numerous Indian filmmakers to tell their stories here and the Tirolean landmarks have provided the backdrop for several song and dance scenes from some of the most popular Bollywood films. Ajay Devgan (actor, producer) Austria and Tirol have some beautiful visuals and locations ideal to shoot. The people, too, for example landowners, are very cooperative, and we are getting the kind of facilities we need. With the cooperation of Tirol s people and the help of Cine Tirol things are working very well. We would love to come here often and to keep shooting here. Sonali Bendre (actress) As you may know, Indian films have a lot of music and Tirol is a great place to be romantic. Therefore we shoot most of our romantic songs and scenes in Tirol. Zayed Khan (actor) I ve already been to Austria and I m looking forward to coming back again to see all the beautiful scenes and places that you have.
