4 3 Sheltered Housing in Barking and Dagenham What is Sheltered Housing? Sheltered Housing is accommodation specially designed for people over 60, or younger if you are registered disabled or in receipt of Disability Living Allowance. It is not a care home or residential care. All our sheltered housing is self-contained. You would have your own front door, kitchen, bathroom and lounge with combined or separate bedroom. How would Sheltered Housing benefit me? Help is available if you need it from our mobile or resident wardens. You still have the independence of your own home. People of a similar age live in the same block or complex as you. Some schemes offer communal facilities such as Television lounges and social activities. I would like to apply for Sheltered Accommodation, what do I do now? A transfer or housing register form can be collected from the area housing offices at: Barking Area Office, 127 Ripple Road, Barking 1G11 7PB Becontree Area Office, Parsloes Avenue, Dagenham RM9 5NU Dagenham Area Office, 2 Stour Road, Dagenham RM10 7JF If you would like an application form to be posted to you, please telephone the Applications Department on /2758. When your completed application is processed by Applications, we will arrange for you to be visited by a welfare officer. They will assess the level of support you need and discuss scheme options. All offers are made subject to the points awarded to your application, and the availability of vacant properties in the schemes selected. Some schemes will consider applications from persons aged 50+.
