7 Project: Harmonized Action Plans Coordinated elaboration of National Action Plans (in a EU funded co-operation project) towards a medium and long term development of Danube waterway as core transport axis of the region To coordinate national development activities, towards a harmonized regional development program To identify key development projects, to elaborate these to a pre-feasibility level ready for implementation (national, EU-funding) The project shall last 3 years and will aggregate project preparation costs of approx mio. via donau I 7

8 Possible topics of National Action Plans (1) Full use of the Danube river transport potential: Formation of designated national inland navigation development agencies to provide: Improvement and maintenance of waterway infrastructure, transport capacity, reliability (bottlenecks) Support of new and innovative multimodal transport services on the Danube, capacity building navigation authorities Creation of an international trasport model for the Danube region (all modes of transport, related to industry and trade) Implementation of a harmonized River Information Services on the Danube via donau I 8

9 Possible topics of National Action Plans (2) Modernisation of the fleets environmental and safety Development and integration of ecological strategies and concepts for the Danube river Development of ports into multimodal logistics centres, modernisation of ports, transshipment facilities and hinterland connections Identification and development of cross-border economic development zones tri-modal logistics hubs Investment in human capital, education and training Improvement of knowledge and public&political awareness of Danube navigation via donau I 9

10 Benefits of the project Overcome the traditional border situation and turn the Danube into an strong pillar for regional co-operation and economic development (...
