2 Background Accessibility is an requirement for efficient trade and subsequently for economic development and growth Transport corridors can provide better access to markets Logistics provides up to 10% to the inland GDP The modal split of rail and inland waterway dropped from 13% resp. 4% to 10% and 3% from 1995 to 2006 in EU27 despite new volumes. This influences the ecological balance of the transport sector ECORSYS study 2006 shows also that freight trains at border crossings are behind the schedule of more than 100% in SEEC. Terminal technique is not state of the art A lot of market players have mental barriers which to overcome seems more important than to built a new railway line. Conclusion: FLAVIA is focusing on cooperative structures t like pro-rail alliances, the transfer of best practice as well as greener logistics. 3 What is FLAVIA and what it is not? FLAVIA is a knowledge and best practice transfer project FLAVIA is a project to promote intermodal freight transport FLAVIA will establish co-operative structures in the corridor FLAVIA wants to encourage actors to use intermodal transport FLAVIA will prepare pre-feasibility studies fore new intermodal services along the corridor Last but not least in FLAVIA the extension of the coridor towards TRACECA and Black Sea region will be discussed What is FLAVIA not?: FLAVIA is not a pure infrastructure improvement project. 4 Contribution to the overall INTERREG CENTRAL Programme goals FLAVIA will contribute to the three INTERREG CENTRAL programme goals Strengthening territorial cohesion by: - reducing barriers in the intermodal logistic channels, which will result in a stronger integration of the new member and candidate countries in the European market, - reduction of organisational, administrative and technical obstacles of integrated logistic chains and - further development of logistic and trade relations between Central and South-East Europe and beyond to the Black Sea bordering countries" FLAVIA Kick-off Aims of the Project Bertram Meimbresse Seite 4
