3. MANCHESTER AIRPORT - A UK ASSET
MANCHESTER AIRPORT A UK ASSET Manchester currently serves circa 24m passengers and has capacity and the right catchment to grow. 70 airlines 200 destinations 60 countries served 2 runways 3200m and 3015m long 62% spare capacity 21m people in 2 hour catchment
4. MAN-TP WHY NOW?
MAN-TP - WHY NOW? It is unlikely that a new runway will be built in the south east for at least 15 years and therefore Manchester has a key role to play in solving the national capacity issue. The Northern Powerhouse needs world class transport infrastructure including rail connectivity (Trans Pennine electrification, HS2 and HS3) MAN s links have already been improved (Metrolink, 4 th platform, new rail franchises, more direct services) Strong international connectivity from the North will help rebalance the economy Passengers prefer local airports, businesses want direct connectivity Passengers and airlines expectations are increasing
5. MAN - CURRENT CONSTRAINTS AND OPPORTUNITIES
CURRENT CONSTRAINTS AND OPPORTUNITIES There are a number of constraints which are hindering MAN s ability to grow. Constraints A. Incremental terminal development with small spaces and many corridors B. Inefficiency of 3 unlinked terminals C. Single taxi lane pinch points D. Lack of T3 Remote Stands E. Apron/airfield developed for older generation aircraft F. Lack of West Apron contact stands G. Inefficiency of T1/3 Apron stand size and gate inflexibility H. Lack of dual taxiway to feed runway I. Conflict between car parking and apron expansion J. Complex Road Network Customer Experience ASQ today Target Status Opportunities 1. Master plan refresh 2. Linking Terminal 1 and Terminal 3 3. Terminal 2 Expansion 4. Landside 5. Airfield Options 6. Terminal 1 and 3 Apron 7. Terminal 2 Apron
CASE FOR INVESTMENT TRANSFORMED CUSTOMER SERVICE MAN s infrastructure is not supporting its customer experience aspirations and requires investment in order to be competitive. MAN-TP will address these requirements Investing in MAN will allow us to compete with our peers Not meeting airline and passenger expectations is not sustainable MAN below average and own targets Recent operational improvements are not sustainable over the long term
CASE FOR INVESTMENT CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE TODAY The ASQ survey has helped to identify multiple improvements required by customers throughout the airport experience, many of which are as a result of the aging facility and resulting constraint on capacity ON JOURNEY & ARRIVING Better signage and road systems Simpler routes from the station to T3 Ease of finding a car parking space CHECK-IN Reduced queues and proper bag drop system Better OOG facility Removal of level changes Improved signage for check-in areas (different levels) More modern appearance SECURITY BOARDING GATES More facilities at gate Appearance improvements Reduced route to gates and increased information Increased seating DISEMBARKING AIRCRAFT Improved routes from aircraft to Immigration Cleaner more modern environment Introduction of more toilets along the piers Less queues and congestion after x-ray More space to reduce claustrophobic feel Better information on LAGs and electrical items Improved body search techniques Separate family lanes Fast Track in the same lane currently Improved info on queueing times DEPARTURE LOUNGE More seating and quiet areas More choice and value in F&B Introduction of charging/laptop stations and better WiFi More/ bigger FIDS More info on walking distances Improved smoking areas and associated signage More facilities for children/families Improved Changing Places facilities IMMIGRATION Transformation required Improved egates needed More egates info Requires more space to improve experience BAGGAGE RECLAIM Shorter waiting times and more communication More info on PIDS More onward travel info required Toilet facilities need revamp and expansion Improved trolley facilities More seating and carousels Improved exit directions Exclusive MAN-TP Benefit To be delivered as part of MAN- TP
