3 CITY OF ARMSTRONG Minutes of the Age-Friendly Community Advisory Committee Meeting held in the Armstrong Seniors Center, 2520 Patterson Avenue, Armstrong B.C., on March 2, PRESENT: Committee: Mr. Peter Rotzetter (Chair), Mr. Ken Brandel, Ms. Penny Christensen, Ms. Patti Ferguson, Ms. Dawn Jamieson, Councillor Ron O Sullivan and Ms. Kate Westlin Regrets: Mr. Al Jones, Mr. Patrick Simpson and Mr. Snider Staff: Wendy Wallin, Recording Secretary pp ADOPTION OF AGENDA ro v Chair Rotzetter called the meeting to order at 9:05 am. al CALL TO ORDER MOVED by Councillor O'Sullivan, seconded by Ms. Ferguson That the Age-Friendly Community Advisory Committee Meeting agenda be adopted. ra CARRIED fo ADOPTION OF MINUTES ra ft MOVED by Mr. Brandel, seconded by Ms. Westlin That the Age-Friendly Community Advisory Committee Meeting minutes of February 3, 2016 be adopted. CARRIED D PRESENTATION OF REPORTS Review of Workshop Notes from February 3, 2016 Meeting and Continue Setting Focus for 2016 Chair Rotzetter reviewed the top five topics that were discussed during the February 3, 2016 meeting that included: Housing; Transportation; Volunteers; Social Inclusion and Participation; and Communication and Information. Ms. Ferguson passed around stickers for Committee members for them to choose which committee they wished to participate in. Page 1 of 3 Page 3 of 5

4 Minutes of the Age-Friendly Community Advisory Committee Meeting March 2, 2016 Upon the results of sticker placement, Chair Rotzetter announced that the Age-Friendly Committee will concentrate their work on the following top three topics in 2016: 1. Housing: Ms. Ferguson (Lead), Mr. Brandel, Ms. Christensen and Ms. Jamieson. 2. Volunteers: Mr. Brandel (Lead), Ms. Christensen, Chair Rotzetter and Ms. Westlin. 3. Social Inclusion and Participation: Ms. Jamieson (Lead) and Ms. Ferguson 4. Transportation: Ms. Christensen 5. Communication: Chair Rotzetter. Chair Rotzetter further stated that Committee members who wish to, or are willing to, work on other topics are encouraged to do so. Housing Ms. Ferguson reviewed the work that she had previously completed on Housing and noted next steps to take: contact the property owners who did not return their questionnaire; compile the information from the questionnaire; review what the housing inventory is missing; and compile a strategic action plan. Ms. Ferguson stated that she will have a report prepared for the May 4, 2016 meeting. Discussion on school closures ensued. Chair Rotzetter announced that there will be a "SAFERHome" Open House in May 2016, date to be announced, and encouraged Committee members to attending. Volunteers Mr. Brandel reviewed upcoming plans for Volunteerism: meet on March 14 with the Volunteer Committee to discuss messaging and an invitation list for the April meeting. invite a nexusbc representative and local service club representatives to meet on, April 11 or 12, and discuss volunteer opportunities in the City. Ms. Westlin left the meeting at 10:13 am. Chair Rotzetter stated that both NexusBC and Vernon Crisis Line are funded supposedly for the North Okanagan area but raised questions as to why the services are not provided to Armstrong residents. Ms. Ferguson made the following comments: Draft for Approval Vernon Crisis Line is sponsored by Interior Health and by the Province; If residents of Armstrong cannot piggy-back on Vernon's service then the Committee could go to the Province to request direct funding for the program; Prior to that, information regarding funding needs to be gathered. 5 Minutes of the Age-Friendly Community Advisory Committee Meeting March 2, 2016 Ms. Jamieson stated that she would research and provide background information before the next meeting. Social Inclusion & Participation Ms. Ferguson informed the Committee that the Province will be announcing soon who the successful applicants for funding will be from the last round of grant applications, and that an application was submitted to upgrade computer and phone access at the Seniors Activity Centre. Chair Rotzetter announced that there is a new website that the Committee may find interesting, al UNFINISHED BUSINESS ro v Chair Rotzetter stated that the Armstrong Spallumcheen Environmental Trust (ASET) will be hosting their Green Fair on April 16, 2016 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm in the Armstrong parking lot. The Committee has the opportunity to share a table with the Armstrong Spallumcheen Trails Society. Ms. Ferguson volunteered to work at the table for a few hours to answer questions from the public. pp The Committee also discussed changing meeting locations a couple of times per year to help encourage the public to attend and to help bring community issues to the Committee. ra Discussion ensued regarding suggested changes to the agenda order of business. fo REMINDERS ra ft Next Committee meeting April 6, 2016 at 9:00 am.
