2 Overview: HR Tampa Chapter #074 of the Society for Human Resource Management has a long history of promoting the human resources profession. We are the premier professional association for human resource professionals in Tampa Bay and one of Florida's largest and most active chapters. We are a vibrant group of almost 700 HR professionals who are seeking to promote greater understanding of the human resource function through group interaction and the presentation of various related topics at our monthly meetings, in our annual expositions and at new member orientations, and in the certification preparation opportunities offered. HR Tampa s Certification program has been on a mission of advancing the profession and continuous improvement over the past years. the Certification function of HR Tampa supports the HR Tampa Mission, Create opportunity for the exchange of ideas on issues challenging human resources professionals in our communities; encourage participation in group discussion leading to better methods, better relationships, improved human resources leadership; and to advance the profession and the personal development of those responsible for, or who assist in human resources. Through training workshops, study groups, newsletter articles, training and networking opportunities at the monthly meetings, by processing HR Certification credits for meeting speakers, and by increasing the number of certified professionals and Certification volunteers who support these initiatives, HR Tampa is Serving the Profession and Advancing the Professional within the Tampa community. We have offered PHP/SPHR study groups for years, but have built upon the programs, responding to the feedback of all participants. Over the past three years, we have offered two PHR/SPHR Crash Courses, each year, that have evolved into intensive 5-hour workshops; they have been designed, developed, and facilitated by Board members. The Crash Course has been revised and improved in response to participants evaluations. We continue to build upon our successes to enhance the benefits we have been able to provide our members. The Certification team, with the support of many volunteers, continues to deliver positive results to our members as they prepare to become certified or work to maintain their professional credentials. Another key function of Certification is to communicate ways to earn HR Certification credits, and to offer certification credits at each monthly meeting and at our annual HR Tampa Expo. In collaboration with the Director or Programs, we seek to bring a diverse training experience to our members. I. Quantitative Results: The course descriptions are found in Qualitative Results. This is free benefit to HR Tampa members. Please see attached participant evaluations for the classes. 3 Quantitative Reporting Please review the attachments that show the agendas and the course evaluations for the most recent Crash Course and Study Group. As Certification chairs, we create agendas so each participant understands the entire course outline, from day one. As a matter of fact, we often this participants prior to the first class, so they can see the important dates, and to have an overview of the program before it s started. We are fortunate to have excellent facilitators for all our classes. There is a real sense of joy to review and share what participants write about the facilitators. II. Qualitative Results: SPHR/PHR Study Group Information: Patricia A. Sullivan, MS, SPHR (co-director of Certification in 2010, 2011, 2012) administered the PHR/SPHR Study Groups and the Crash Courses. The Study Group is offered in the spring and fall each year, and the class met once a week for 12 weeks. In addition to the director facilitating some of the classes, we open each class to volunteer SME (subject matter experts). There were NINE additional diverse specialists who provided the material in their own preferred style. Some of the credentials of the volunteers included: EEOC, labor law, and benefit attorneys; PhD, MSHRM, GPHR, SPHR, PHR. Those that are certified professionals will be able to utilize this class for their continuing education credits as a class taught. Students prepared using the SHRM Learning systems. Except for the cost of learning materials, this was free to HR Tampa members. The 12-week course was designed to be optimal for learners. A copy of the most recent syllabus is attached. Many of the study groups were designed to be hands-on, interactive, and small group discussion, because as adult educators, we know these concepts provide longer retention of information. The group began by taking a pre-test of their overall HR knowledge. Throughout the study group, participants had opportunities to utilize the SHRM tests on-line, and after each module, each participant took a post module exam. As noted above, many topics were designed, developed, and delivered in fun and participatory formats including: HR Jeopardy; T&F games; Who Wants to be an HR Rep; Active Listening Exercises, Key Terms Match, and more. Although SHRM does not recognize these activities as credit earning learning, as adult educators, we are confident that with the right debrief and discussion, hands-on activities provide higher levels of retention. Additionally, when reviewing the participants comments, they note time and time again, that it was the activities that supported learning better than lectures. HR Tampa Certification uploaded guides, quizzes, learning supplements to the HR Tampa website, which allowed participants to supplement the SHRM Learning System, and provided the ability to obtain materials on-line, when convenient to them, and when appropriate for their learning timeline. These documents are available only to our study group participants. In total, there are 8 tests on this site, as well as review materials, testing information, and testing tips; available for students use. Several of these materials were revised in 2012, after reviewing course evaluations and obtaining participant recommendations.

4 The volunteer facilitators in this study group were evaluated by class participants. Additionally, we requested feedback on the format of the class. The compilation evaluation is attached. These results were used, and will continue to be used, to change the format and facilitators in upcoming sessions so that we continue to improve and enhance the learning experience of all participants. Those who successfully passed the SPHR or PHR exam received an engraved pen, with their new designation and the HR Tampa logo. These gifts were presented at our membership meeting. Additionally, we post names on the Certification home page of the HR Tampa site, and in the Certification article published in the HR Tampa Newsletter. SPHR/PHR Crash Course: HR Tampa sponsors two Crash Courses each year. Each class was 5 hours and reflected material from the modules that generated the most material in the exams. The course was a refresher, for those already certified, and a crash course of materials for the PHR/SPHR class. Many people from the study group attend this last group preparatory class, but we also had non-hr Tampa professionals attend. Many of these attendees became HR Tampa members before or after their participation. The course is facilitated by Jenni Stone (HR Tampa Director of Technology) and Patti Sullivan, and is a full 5-hour session, with learning material being scrolled on a continual feed prior to the start of class and during breaks. This was initially a 4-hour Crash Course, but based on feedback, it was designed to be longer to meet the needs of participants. The format was similar to the PHR/SPHR study group in that the topics were designed, developed, and delivered utilizing hands-on, interactive exercises including: HR Jeopardy; T&F games; Who Wants to be an HR Rep; Active Listening Exercises, Key Terms Match, and more. There was a course evaluation completed by each participant. The compilation of responses from the most recent course is included. Strategic Partnerships: GTE Federal Credit Union We are very fortunate to have developed a great relationship with GTE Federal Credit Union. GTE has provided our study group with a classroom and state of the art equipment which makes helps to facilitate our study group sessions both efficiently and conveniently. Recognition: As noted above, our recognition program for newly certified individuals includes public recognition at the HR Tampa monthly meetings, inclusion of their name on the HR Tampa website, a newsletter article. We also provide recognition to our dedicated and passionate class facilitators. Through meeting announcements and newsletter articles, we show appreciation to our membership and to those who volunteer. Each volunteer receives a letter of thanks from the co-director of Certification. A copy is included. We strive to not only celebrate this success within our Chapter, but as leaders of Certification, we offer to send a letter to the managers/supervisors/owners of the recently certified. The purpose of this is to ensure a leader in an organization understands the meaning of this accomplishment, but also to

5 Serve the profession, by making sure other professionals begin to understand the importance of this designation to companies. Recertification: We are committed to keeping our members certified through continuing communication of resources available to them, free educational offers, and successfully ensuring every monthly meeting is certified for credit through the HR Certification Institute. HR Tampa provides an annual Expo, where HRTampa members attend at no charge. Attendees can earn up to 6.5 hours for this one day event. With the Expo Committee finding the presenters, and our Certification team processing credits, HR Tampa offers Strategic, International and General credits within these learning events. Through the newsletter, we focus many of the articles to continuing education. Each many months we offer local credit options, HR Florida and SHRM credit opportunities, and have begun to focus information on the whole person. Several of these articles are attached. We continuously communicate to our members to keep their profiles updated not only through the HR Tampa website, but to update profiles on hrci.org and give permission for updates to HR Tampa regarding their status. This will ensure we can continue to provide resources to members to help retain their certification. Membership Meetings HR Tampa has a goal of providing monthly training topics that offer HRCI credits. This past year, 100% of the topics received approved-for-credit status, and attendees have been eligible to receive one (1) credit for each meeting. Attachments: 1. Study Group Syllabus 2.
