1 FPT FIAT POWERTRAIN TECHNOLOGIES SHANGHAI R&D CENTRE CELEBRATES ITS OPENING Nov 13 th, 2008, Shanghai (FPT) is holding a reception for the completion of construction of Shanghai R&D Centre main building, which sets a solid foundation for FPT business in China and Asia Pacific area. Distinguished guests from Shanghai Jiading district government, Italian General Consulate, Fiat Group and, together with analysts and experts of China automotive industry witnessed the breakthrough moments. Shanghai R&D Centre at Shanghai Jiading Industrial Zone started construction in December 2007, and will be fully operative in This R&D Centre will focus on fundamental R&D and advanced studies, representing the most advanced technologies and applications of. With the full operation of the R&D Centre, FPT China will provide its clients the world s leading and allround powertrain solutions, including all series of gasoline, diesel and alternative fuel engines, transmissions, axles and related products. The applications cover multiple fields, including automotive, industrial, marine and power generation. The Shanghai facility is FPT s first R&D centre in Asia, with an investment amounting to approximately 22 million Euros (equal to more than 200 million RMB). The Centre covers an area of 36,000 mq, including 12,000 mq for laboratories and 5,000 mq for offices. It fully embodies Fiat Group s strategic attention and long-term commitment to the Chinese market. The centre will Page 1

2 employee about 100 high-expertise engineers and technicians. More than 90% will be locally hired. China has achieved staged progress within one year since its official operation in 2007: China headquarters, one trading company- Iveco Motors of China Ltd, two joint ventures- Saic Fiat Powertrain Hongyan Co., Ltd and Hangzhou Haveco Automotive Transmission Co., Ltd, and this FPT Shanghai R&D centre. In January 2008, received the Award of Development Potential from Jiading Industrial Zone authority. The committee believes that FPT Shanghai R&D centre will play a positive role to the Industrial Zone and its automotive value chain as well. On July 31 st, 2008, FPT signed a memorandum of understanding for the Light-Duty Diesel Engine project with the Chongqing Municipal Government in Turin, Italy, in order to build a wholly-owned subsidiary to produce light duty diesel engine (FPT F1C) for existing OEM contractors and mainly for export. It is expected to have an annual production capacity of 100,000 engines. Before that in July of 2007, FPT, Iveco, Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (Group) and Chongqing Municipal Government agreed to build a new heavyduty diesel engine joint venture. The establishment of the new venture, SAIC Fiat Hongyan Commercial Vehicle Co., Ltd (SFH) is progressing well. These two projects will make Chongqing one of the most important commercial vehicle engine manufacturing bases of FPT outside of Italy. Page 2

3 During the Beijing Olympic Games, supplied more than 4,350 green engines for the Beijing Public Transportation Corporation in an effort to achieve zero emissions around the Olympics Park area. Among the above engines there are around 1,450 natural gas engines (N60 ENT G), out of which 800 are used for transporting athletes, coaches, journalists and representative of foreign Countries during the Olympic Games, and around 2,900 cutting-edge diesel engines (N60 ENT C SCR, N60 ENTC, C78 ENT C). The feedback was very positive. The Beijing Public Transportation Corporation awarded FPT as an Excellent Cooperation Partner to acknowledge the contribution of FPT China for the Green Olympic project. With the opening of FPT Shanghai R&D Centre and full operation in 2009, the development of FPT in China will unveil a new chapter.
