Venue: The Czech Republic, Prague, Řitka The Czech Republic is a central European country. The Czech Republic (population of 10 million) comprises of 3 historical lands: Bohemia (Čechy) in the West, Moravia (Morava) in the South-East, and Czech Silesia (Slezsko) in the North-East with the Czech language being spoken in all three. The Czech Republic has been a member of NATO since 1999 and of the European Union since The country is part of the Schengen Area, having abolished border controls, completely opening its borders with all of its neighbours - Germany, Austria, Poland and Slovakia. The Czech landscape is particularly varied. Bohemia, on the west, consists of a basin drained by the Elbe (Czech: Labe) and the Vltava rivers, surrounded by mostly low mountains, such as the Krkonoše range of the Sudetes. The highest point of the country, Sněžka at 1,602 m, is located here.

3 Brdy is a low mountain ridge at m sea level leading from the edge of Prague to the SW. The Czech Republic has a temperate continental climate, with relatively hot summers and cold, cloudy and snowy winters. Most rain falls during the summer. Average temperature in May in the competition area is 13 o C. Prague (Praha) is the capital of the Czech Republic with a population of about 1,2 milion. The competition center is in Řitka, a village situated 25 km southwest of Prague next to forested ridge of Brdy. Řitka has grown in the last few decades with many Prague residents moving there. MTBO in the Czech Republic: With the growing popularity of mountain biking in the early nineties, biking was linked to orienteering and ski-orienteering events. The first MTBO Championship of the Czech Republic took place in From 1995 there has been a series of competitions called Czech Cup that in 2011 had 21 rounds. In every competition about 300 competitors participate. 4. Dates and types of competitions Program for 1st round of World Cup 2012 and side events. 4 5. Classes and participation restrictions In World Cup Each federation may enter up to 6 men and 6 women for each competition. For the Mix Relay each federation may enter max. 4 teams of 3 riders. Each team must include at least one woman. In EJC, EYC, MOC No restrictions on the number of participants in each age class. The classes are: EJC: W20, M20 EYC: W17, M17 MOC: W40, M40, W50, M50, W60, M60 In Open Score no restriction in age or sex! All teams of two will compete in one race, but there will be two choices for each team depending on selected time limit: 1) 240 min; both members of team have to stay together all race 2) 120 min; team can split and each member can collect checkpoints independently 6. Competition Rules Special Rules and Program for MTBO World Cup 2012 shall be applied. For further details on regulations please refer to the Competition Rules on the IOF-web. Special rules for the event: Off road riding is not allowed, but competitors can carry the bike. It is strictly prohibited to enter settlements (symbol 527), open and cultivated land (symbol 401, 402), orchards (symbol 412) and to cross walls (521) or fences (524). Competitors must get to all controls with their bikes. Ride on the right, overtake on the left. Riders coming downhill have right of way. 7. Accommodation We have booked a variety of accommodation in hotels and pensions in the region, see table below. All hotels are reachable by bike from the competition center. Booking Accommodation Deadline 5 th March - requirements to info@mtboprague.cz or on line on Payment Accommodation Deadline 15 th March after confirmation of your booking, payment to be made to the same account as event entries. Priority for reservations will be given to the earliest payments received by the organisers. Accommodation of types A and B are preferred for a minimum of 4 nights, from 5 th until 8 th May. May EYC, EJC, MOC and OPEN participants can pay in cash at registration but the reservation of accomodation will be confirmed only for those who have payed by the Payment Accomodation Deadline of 15 th March. 6 9. Transport The distance from Prague airport to the competition center is 45 km by the Prague Ring road and motorway R4. The Competition Center is also very accessible by bus or train. Bicycles are free of charge on Prague Metro (Subway) and suburban trains. Competitors DO NOT NEED a car during the event, all races are within 12 km of the accommodation. Public Transport Details - From the airport take bus nb. 100 (runs every 10 min, cost 32 CZK) to the last stop of Metro line B Zličín. Take the Metro to stop Smíchovské nádraží (Smichov station). From Smíchovské nádraží there are two options: 1) Take a train direction Beroun to the station Všenory. (Runs every 30 min, 30 CZK). From Všenory it is 6 km by bike to Řitka 2) Take a bus direction Dobříš directly to Řitka. (Runs every 30 min, 32 CZK). However it is not possible transport a bicycle on this bus service. Complete timetable is Transfer to and from Prague Airport can also be ordered from the Organizers. Transfer cost depends on the group size, cca 250 CZK ( 10 EUR). Please contact the organisers in plenty of time if you require any help or to book transport. 10. Visa permits For a list of states whose citizens are required to have a visa to enter the Czech Republic, check the official site of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic at Visas have to be applied for at local Czech Embassies.

7 12. Local weather conditions The weather in May in the Prague Region is usually mild but rather wet and it can also be cold. The average temperature in May is around 18 C during the day and 7 C at night. 13. Embargoed areas: The following areas are under an embargo for the participants in World Cup 2012 round 1. (according to IOF Competitions Rules). Area South west from Prague between towns and vilages Mníšek pod Brdy, Řitka, Všenory, Řevnice, Hostomice, Dobříš. 14. Maps Scales of all maps are 1: and contour interval 5 m Sample of the map: Old maps of the area are available on Terrain description and courses: Hilly attitude m. On the middle event, partialy rocky steep slopes and hard downhill tracks. Other races have moderately hilly terrain with good rideable tracks. Some small tracks dotted on the race maps are indistinct on the ground.
