1 Kington Festival Diary of Events 2013 Date Event Details Contacts PRE-FESTIVAL EVENTS FRIDAY 3 RD 10 TH MAY Kington Festival charity shop - 48 High Street, Kington in association with Rita Langford. We require donations of good quality new or pre-owned furniture, pictures, household items, toys, books, bric-a-brac etc. If possible please drop your donations in on Friday 3rd between 2.30pm and 4.30pm. If you have difficulty transporting items to the shop then please contact Phil Eggerton. Come and pick up a bargain and support your Festival. Shop opens on Saturday morning, 4th th May. Phil Eggerton SUNDAY 2 ND Sports Tournament (1) Hockey game involving the Cricket Club, Football Club, Golf Club and Kington Ladies Hockey Club at the Recreation Gorund. All day. Ruth Alexander TUESDAY 4 TH Beetle Drive at the Parish House at 19:30. FESTIVAL EVENTS - FRIDAY 7TH Kington Primary School s Summer Music Fair including stalls, food, drinks, games and much more! An entertaining time for the whole family to enjoy! Opened by our Royal Family at 15:30. Kington Primary School SATURDAY 8 TH KINGTON PAST AND PRESENT DAY BACK TO THE FUTURE - This year the town will be transformed into the past and present; the shopkeepers will dress their Phil Eggerton Page 1 of 6

2 windows in line with an era from the past and the Market Hall will host displays and attractions in tune with the present time. J & P Turner will be hosting an inaugural Festive of Rural, Environmental and renewable energy exhibits. You ll have to pick your way through the crowds to view the many exhibitions, demonstrations, crafts, music, entertainment and lots of surprises. The High Street will be close from 08:00am until 18:00. The opening ceremony will take place at 10:00 so make sure you re there! KADOS An evening event to be enjoyed by all at the Burton Hotel at 19:30. Lynne Owens SUNDAY 9 TH Sports Tournament (2) Cricket game involving the Cricket Clun, Football Club, Golf Club and Kington Ladies Hockey Club at the Recreation Ground all day. Starts at 14:00. Simon Turner Torq Rough Ride Cycling event on the most laid back moorland romp of a ride in the UK, stunning views, enthusiastic and capable organisations, great campsite, free post ride meal, a tiny town chock full of real ale pubs, hunkered down under the eastern edge of Hergest Ridge. Starts at 10:00 am. Geoff Cooper MONDAY 10 TH TUESDAY 11 TH Festival Whilst Drive Everyone is welcome at this popular event held at the Parish House, Kington. Entrance 2 includes light refreshments. 19:45 start. Kington History Society Walk back in time Around Kington. Enjoy a walk around our beautiful Town lead by John Ockenden and assisted by Julia Read. 3 THURSDAY 13 TH Car Treasure Hunt A competitive or fun evening, the choice is yours. Drive through our beautiful countryside guided by answers the clues provide. Organised by the Marines Twinning Association. Entrance 4 per car; meet 18:30 at Mill Street Car Park. Karen Bennett FRIDAY 14 TH Coffee and Cake Morning at the Baptist Church in aid of St Michael s. Alma Vaughan Pub Crawl Treasure hunt A journey around all of the pubs in Kington in teams of 2 to 5 picking up clues and answering some not too diffciult questions. For starting location and time please see posters around town. Over 18s only. Geoff Cooper SATURDAY 15 TH Plant Sale Visit the Wine Vaults pub and buy some plants for your garden. Proceeds donated to the West Midlands Air Ambulance Service. Open from 10:00 am. Wine Vaults Wheelbarrow Race Evening Bring all the family to watch the various races through the town or enter yourself to compete for numerous trophies and prizes! Registration for all entries will commence at 18:00 in Kington Primary School playground so don t be late! Please see our Wheelbarrow pages for more information. Please note roads will be closed between 18:30 and 20:30. Emma Hancocks Disco The Football Club are once again providing evening entertainment in the form of a disco after the wheelbarrow race. 4 SUNDAY 16 TH Festival Family Service A morning of prayer, worship, music and togetherness for the whole family and community in St Mary s Church, Kington, 10:15 am. Sports Tournament (3) Golf Match involving Golf Club, Cricket Club, Football Club and Kington Ladies Hockey Club at the Golf Course. Nigel Venables Ceilidh Come along and join in the fun with Taff Raff Ceilidh it promises to be a fun and entertaining evening for all. At the Burton Hotel from 19:00 22:00. Rita Langford MONDAY 17 TH Beetle Drive Everyone is welcoming to this popular event at Marwick Hall for 19:00 start. Margaret Evans TUESDAY 18 TH Sing Along Come along and sing to your hearts content with this always a popular event at Ye Olde Tavern from 20:00 onwards. Debbie Bedford WEDNESDAY 19 TH Teddy Bears Picnic Bring along your favourite teddy bear and picnic for a lunchtime full of fun and games for the children at Kington Town Football Ground. Festival Bingo Come along to win some excellent prizes. A good friendly atmosphere and lots of fun. All welcome. At Kington Footbal Club, eyes down 20:00. Kay Sergreant Rita Langford THURSDAY 20 TH Festival Tea Party Come and join us for afternoon tea at the Burton Hotel starting at 15:00. 5 Walking Treasure Hunt This stroll around the streets of Kington to answer challenging questions, starts at the Place de Marines and is followed by refreshments at the Marwick Hall. Starts at 18:30. Come along to and enjoy the matches at Kington Recreation Ground. Peter Smith Sports Tournament (4) Football match involving Football Club, Cricket Club, Golf Club, Kington Ladies Hockey Club at Kington Football Ground. This leaves The Meads, Kington at 13:15 and parades through the Town to the Recreation Ground for the prize giving. Please see our Gala Day pages for full details of the prize categories etc. Gala Day continues on the Recreation Ground but with a new look for Gala Day this year as Kington Lions will be organising an afternoon packed with fun and exciting events. Wine Vaults SUNDAY 23 RD MONDAY 24 TH SUNDAY 14 TH JULY Kids Fun Day A day full of fun and exciting games for all the children. There will be lots of activities from children s races, face painting etc. Please see local posters for more information. Cricket Competition Come along to an afternoon packed with cricket and enjoy a drink from the Real Ale Bar at the Recreation Ground and School Pitch. Rounders Tournament Organised by Kington Ladies Hockey Club. Please see local posters for more details. Save the Children Tea Party A relaxing afternoon enjoying beautiful surroundings, stalls and cream teas. A small entrance fee will be charged at Bridge House Kington, 15:00 onwards. Festival Songs of Praise Led by Churches Together in Kington. Come and have a sing song in an outdoor venue. Everyone welcome. Place de Marines at 18:30. Post FESTIVAL EVENTS Whilst Drive - Everyone is welcome at this popular event held at the Parish House, Kington. Entrance 2 includes light refreshments. 19:45 start. Kington Classic Sportive 74 miles circuit on minor roads out to Rhayader for lunch and back to Kington for the finish. 08:30 start.
