1 20 March 2015 Tender for the production of web videos, tourism film and TV commercial for Greater Yarmouth Tourism The Board of the Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area Ltd in conjunction with Great Yarmouth Borough Council has approved spend on a series of twelve 70 second webisodes, a new television commercial and a new web film. You are invited to submit a tender for the production of these items based on the following information. 1. Introduction In 2015, Great Yarmouth Borough Council Tourism and Greater Yarmouth Tourism & Business Improvement Area will commission a new TV commercial and a series of short videos for use on the official Greater Yarmouth tourism website and on Social Media. There will be 30 second and 20 second versions of the commercial and the videos will be approximately 70 seconds in duration. There will also be a requirement for a three minute film to provide an overview of tourism in the borough. Videos have been produced by a number of tourist locations, including Visit Cornwall and Visit Norfolk. cornwall air digital films.aspx Although the style of these films suits these areas well, we will be looking for something radically different for Great Yarmouth. 2. Style The twelve films must reflect tourism activities throughout the borough of Great Yarmouth, not just the 1½ miles of the main seafront. They must inspire people to come here and have fun families and couples, young and mature visitors and should reflect the values noted in Greater Yarmouth s brand essence wheel and seen on yarmouth.co.uk Maritime House, 25 Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth. 2 A series of themes will be agreed for the web films, each of which should feature three or four individuals or attractions rather than focusing on a single person or business. Greater Yarmouth has a broad spread of tourism businesses and this should be reflected in each theme. Some initial thoughts on theming the films are listed below, but these are not set in stone and should be viewed as a starting point. We want the videos to be fun, exciting, inspiring and even a little maverick. They must also have an unpretentious, friendly and easy going style. 3. Possible Themes i. Outdoor Attractions Greater Yarmouth is alive with activities and attractions throughout the summer holidays, with theme parks, adventure golf, model village, beaches, fireworks and a host of colourful events. ii. iii. iv. Indoor Attractions There's always plenty to do even if it s raining, including indoor golf, museums, roller skating, Sea Life Centre, sports bar and children s play centres. Out of season Some attractions are open all year round, and there are always outdoor activities to enjoy. These include the Sealife Centre, Thrigby Wildlife Gardens, Retroskate, Quasar, Time & Tide Museum and the Great Yarmouth Smoke Houses and Potteries. Heritage This theme could focus on local history buff Ernie Childs taking viewers on tour back in time, along the medieval town walls, aboard the Lydia Eva herring drifter, on the historic scenic railway and the famous Joyland snail ride. Maritime Festival This popular two day festival, will take place on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 September, should feature as one of the themed films or as part of another one heritage or outdoor attractions, for example. vi. Sports Sporting events are enjoyed by tourism visitors, including beach football, beach rugby, beach volleyball, paddleboard racing, triathlons, swimming events and the festival of bowls. Norfolk Broads & Countryside The Broads and local countryside are a big attraction for visitors and would provide the backdrop for a particularly attractive film featuring water sports, boats, Roman ruins, waterside, rivers and sailing. Groups This is an important market for Greater Yarmouth and the theme will feature a range of attractions for group travellers, including theatres, events, guided tours, restaurants, bars and activities. Golf Greater Yarmouth may not be well known for golf but the borough has adventure golf, pitch and putt and three proper golf courses and a driving range. x. Racing Few resorts can offer top quality horse racing from Easter to October, and greyhound racing and stock car racing all year round. xi. xii. Evening Entertainment Early evening entertainment includes the circus, theatres, arcades, some lateopening attractions such as bowling, restaurants, clubs, pubs and bars, and throughout the summer there are free fireworks displays on the beach in Great Yarmouth and Hemsby. Accommodation Great Yarmouth bed stock caters for more than a third of all holidaymakers who visit Norfolk. The choice is huge from camping to self catering, chalets to holiday parks, hotels and bed and breakfasts catering for all tastes and all budgets. We really don t want these mini films to be the same old wish washy tourism videos. We want them to make people see the area a little differently, to feel an affinity with the borough and see the passion that tourism providers have for the area. Viewers must see that this is a great place for a holiday, short break or day visit. And that Greater Yarmouth is their kind of place where they d have a great British holiday. 4. Filming We anticipate that filming will take place over several months, probably starting in late spring. There will be some cross over between the themes and it's possible that elements from one film may well be used in another, and may even be shot differently so that they can be incorporated in more than one video. 4 We don't expect all the videos to be completed at the same time. Films should be delivered one by one to an agreed schedule once they have been shot, edited and signed off, but by no later than 30 October. It is anticipated that further funding will be made available for additional films to be produced on an ongoing basis for the next couple of years to provide comprehensive coverage of everything that Greater Yarmouth has to offer visitors. A lot of filming will take place outside, which we feel will require a flexible, and relatively local, production company so that they can be on hand to ensure that every shot features blue skies and sunshine. We will require footage from the 70 second films to be edited into a three minute video that provides a broad overview of Greater Yarmouth tourism. 5. Commercial In addition to the web videos, we will also film a new TV commercial this year, with 30 second and 20 second versions required. We expect a concept and storyboard for this to be agreed well in advance so that filming for the commercial can to be included in the shoots for the web videos. 6. Budget and copyright All footage will be copyright to Great Yarmouth and stored in a library so it can be reused if required. The budget for filming at least a dozen web videos and a new TV advert in two lengths as well as the short film is 36, Pitching process Interested parties should indicate their intention to pitch with a submission of interest and details about their company, a link to their show reel, details of personnel who would work on the series of films and their references, along with a written outline or storyboard of how they would bring something different to this filming project using the topic outdoor attractions by 10 April Intentions to pitch should be ed to kirsty@great yarmouth.gov.uk by the deadline. Having reviewed all submissions, a number of companies will be invited to make a 20 minute presentation plus 10 minutes for Q&A on the morning of Wednesday 22 April at Maritime House, Marine Parade, Great Yarmouth.
