1 in.her Life : 29 A Week in he Life of Helen Turkingon Helen Turkingon, voed one of he Top 50 UK designers by Town & Couny Magazine in April 2011, is based beween Dublin and London wih homes and businesses in boh places. She ells in.design abou one of her busy weeks where she successfully manages o juggle her inerior design business, her hree fabric shops and her young family Monday An early sar. I walk he kids o school wih he dog before leaving home a 9am for a meeing on-sie wih cliens who are resoring a 5000sq f Georgian residence. Cliens need o decide on final pain colours for he kichen. The house is looking fab, such grand proporions. From here I go o my Dublin ineriors sore for a follow up meeing wih anoher clien o confirm he furniure schedule and o discuss personal ouches o follow when he furniure is in siu. While I am here, I have a quick cha wih Laragh, he sore manager, abou new lamp orders due from France his week. Afer a quick visi o my fabric sore I ge o he design sudio. Firs hing o do is mee wih he girls o run hrough plans and he diary for he upcoming week. I oversee he projecs he girls are working on bu we all help each oher ou. I spend he res of he working day caching up on paperwork and looking a he fabric phoographs ha have jus come in from our phoographer for our new online fabric sore, which will be launched his summer; he picures look incredible. I ge home jus afer 6pm o spend he evening wih my husband and hree kids; Tilly, Freddie and Florrie.

Tuesday I cach he 6.40am fligh from Dublin o London Gawick. I never ceases o amaze me how he airpor is so busy a his hour wih so many Dublin based people commuing o London. I cach he non-sop express rain sraigh o Clapham juncion and from here i s jus a shor walk o my London showroom on S.John s Hill in Baersea.

Following ha I mee wih my PR consulan abou publicising our new online sore. Over lunchime I pop over o nearby Chelsea Harbour o see a few new producs ha have come in. All of he shops are blooming because i s Chelsea Flower Week. I wish I had ime o go again. Las year my mum, my sisers and I wen for a day, bu his year I was jus oo busy. I head back o he shop afer an hour and work on he shop floor, changing he displays. We ry o updae he shop regularly o keep up o dae wih seasonal rends. This is acually somehing I really enjoying doing. I am working lae his evening as I am meeing cliens in he showroom a 7pm o finalise pain colours for heir new home. As hey are expecing heir firs child hey are anxious o ge everyhing finalised. I hen mee my siser and a friend for dinner in Fulham. Since seing up our new sore in London las year i has given me he opporuniy o spend more ime wih my family and friends in London. Wednesday I have a morning meeing in he London sore wih a rep from a Turkish mill who weave all of our upholsery fabrics. I am very impressed wih he samples, a few minor weaks o be made bu I am very excied. I have chosen some grea linens and velves for our auumn/winer collecion. Perol blue is going o be everywhere nex season, I m sure of i! A las, he firs delivery of he Helen Turkingon Pain collecion arrives in our London sore. I has been so successful in Dublin, ha even before is arrival in he UK he girls have been speccing i for projecs. I run hrough POS wih he girls and hen I have o dash back o he airpor for he fligh home o Dublin. Fligh is delayed by half an hour, I don know wha I d do wihou my ipad!

Afer working for a London propery developer in London for eigh years, Helen moved back o Norhern Ireland in 1995 o work in he family inerior design business. She se up Helen Turkingon Ineriors in Dublin 2002, opening Helen Turkingon Fabrics in 2009 and hen Helen Turkingon Fabrics, London, in She launched he Helen Turkingon Pain Collecion in March Helen s London fabric shop Thursday Early sar for he phoo shoo a my beach house in Norhern Ireland oday for an Irish magazine and for our websie. My righ hand woman Aisling and I are on he road by 7am. We arrive by 8:30am and open up he house. So lucky oday as he sun is shining and he place looks like he Amalfi Coas in Ialy well, nearly!
5 34 : in.her Life Fuelled wih coffee, we accessorize he rooms we wan o shoo wih flowers, complimens of our in-house floris, Anne. We use amazing pink peonies which look fab wih pink cushions made from our sock fabrics. By he ime Barry, he phoographer arrives, we are ready for acion! We shoo righ hrough unil 7pm, sopping only for a quick al fresco lunch. The phoos look fabulous on he camera, can wai o see he finished produc. No home unil 10pm, oo ired o hink anymore. Friday Drive o a furniure manufacurer o ry ou a new sofa we are in he process of designing. We ended up unexpecedly changing he design for he beer and we now have he new Gaudi sofa coming on line a he end of he monh. Back jus in ime for a much needed blow-dry for he weekend. My weekly lile rea o myself. Head back o he sudio for lunch. Have a meeing wih our websie designer regarding he layou of our new homepage o be launched wihin weeks. I also have a follow up meeing in my sudio abou lighing conceps from he house we visied on Monday. Lighing is so imporan in creaing he righ mood. Final decisions made and i s now ime o move ono sof furnishings and curains. Afer ha, I sign off on all orders made during he week. Rushed home for Tilly s speech and drama play, sarring role! Saurday I aemp a family breakfas before he chaos begins. Garvan, my husband, akes he kids o heir Saurday aciviies while I pu in a few hours a my desk. Saurday morning is a grea day for admin as he phones end o be quieer. I escape early on Saurday and we all head o he beach house where I swich off unil Monday.
