A convenient option for replacing a leased line is a wireless GPRS connection. It might be possible for very timing-critical applications that it is not possible to use a GPRS connection. Use this publication to find out how to replace an existing leased line connection with two leased line modems (one in originate and one in answer operation) with two GPRS modems with cellular radio contracts with a fix IP address seamlessly. Please note that the fix IP address must also be accessible. Some providers provide IP addresses that can not be accessed. Beyond these basic functions, you can enhance the reliability of your GPRS connection by configuring a daily logout/login of the cellular engine, the dispatch of keep-alive packets, or a PPP connection check for example. Refer to the GPRS 5.x serial manual for further information about this. The following figure shows the replacement of a leased line connection (top) with two INSYS GPRS 5.x serial (bottom) to connect two terminals via the GPRS cellular network. Figure 1: Replacement of a leased line with two INSYS GPRS 5.x serial 4 EN Vers Feb
