3 Introduction Keeping up with Facebook updates and changes can be challenging to stay on top of, so we put together 10 marketing tips that you may not know about. Due to recent changes, it s getting harder to get into fans newsfeeds, especially for Facebook business pages. But there are ways to make sure that you are effectively sharing content on this platform to reach new contacts and audiences. The following 10 tips will help you leverage key features to make your Facebook page stand out, boost engagement, and get more Fans, Likes, Comments, and Shares. Once you get the hang of things, you ll be able to generate quality stories and reach more consumers. Read on to see how the power of these features will turn your Facebook Page into an engaging destination.
4 Tip #1: Coveted Cover Photos A cover photo is the large banner image that is shown at the top of the page. Make a good impression and update your cover photo with something spectacular. For Pages, the cover photo dimensions are 851 x 315 pixels. Choose an image that represents your brand, and don t be afraid to get creative with it. You can change it as often as you want, but you should also adhere to Facebook s policies regarding cover photos, which states that they cannot include: Price or purchase information, such as 40% off or Download it at our website. Contact information such as a website address, , mailing address, or information that should go in your Page s About section. References to Facebook features or actions, such as Like or Share or an arrow pointing from the cover photo to any of these features. Calls-to-action, such as Get it now or Tell your friends. Covers must not be false, deceptive or misleading, and must not infringe on third parties intellectual property.

Some of them are tools that compile your photo album pictures together and others provide a database of high-resolution images to choose from. The Site Canvas: Connect your Facebook account directly to this app and you can choose from a variety of layouts to build your cover photo. (60,000 monthly users, 17,000 likes) Cover Photo Magic: Connect your Facebook account to the app that runs natively on Facebook, then build a cover photo from images you choose. (20,000 monthly users, 11,000 likes) Face It Pages: This allows you to create a variety of images, not just banner images, with its interface. Just log in and use their application to start building. (29,000 likes) Facebook Profile Covers: 209,000 likes Cover Timeline: 138,000 likes First Covers: 99,500 likes
6 Tip #2: Zero-In On Your Target Targeting posts gives you control on who sees your post in their News Feed. The target can be selected by: Relationship Status Interested In Education Location Gender Age However, it is important to note that not all Facebook users filled out this information so you may be narrowing your audience. Furthermore, this post will still be visible on your Page Timeline for all users and Fans who visit your Page. This Targeting feature is only available to Pages with more than 5000 Fans. If you are an administrator of a Page with more than 5000 Fans, take advantage of this and target your posts to reach a more relevant audience! Facebook Targeting for page posts is a good feature but only available once your page has 5000 fans! Targeting
7 Tip #3: Pin Posts to the Top of Your Page Pin a post at the top of your page to make the content static. This is useful for featuring content you want your fans to see right away. Pinning a post at the top ensures that it won t get pushed down by other updates. Because of this feature, pinned posts attracts the most eyeballs because it s the first thing that visitors see. The Steps: On the post you want to promote, click on the Pencil icon on the top-right, then select Pin to Top. Keep in mind that pinned posts will only remain at the top of your timeline for seven days, or until you pin another post.
8 Tip #4: Highlight Posts Highlighting posts is different from pinning them. To highlight a post means that you re able to stretch it across your timeline. With twice the width, people will notice your highlights right away. Since it occupies so much space, take advantage of this feature by using big images and a call-to-action. The Steps: Hit the Star icon on the top-right of the post you want to enlarge.
9 Tip #5: Scheduling Posts It s all about the right timing. However, it is sometimes difficult to have access to Facebook during certain times, especially if you are busy. Luckily, Facebook added a feature to schedule posts in advance. The Steps: Click on the clock icon to schedule the post. You can schedule posts to be published in 10 minute intervals. Once you schedule it, you can t edit the content, but you can cancel the post under Activity Log. You will see all your scheduled posts in the Activity Log.
10 Tip #6: Posts Frequency Frequency is key to driving more engagement and activity to your Wall. Posting daily lets you cut through the clutter within your community s busy Timelines, but be cautious of posting too much per day and looking like a spam-bot. According to Social Baker, studies have shown that on average, posting 2-3 times per day is most effective for business pages. This may seem like a lot, but it s a good way to determine when is the best time for you to reach your audience. As you get into a consistent daily routine, you may find that your fans prefer that you post less (based on unsubscribes) or that it s working. Adjust accordingly to your audience s behaviour. Over time, based on Likes, Comments and Shares, you will find your sweet spot for posting at the right time and on the right days. A study by Buddy Media showed that posts 80 characters or less in length receive 27% higher engagement rates.
11 Tip #7: Best Times to Post A post on Facebook usually lasts for 3 hours on average. So you really want to find the perfect time to post. While it s a no-brainer that you shouldn t post at 3am, there are times when your post will reach the most of your audience. Dan Zarrella claims that you should post at noon and a little after 7pm. However, this statistic is for general Facebook users. Depending on which demographics make up your Fan base, your best times may vary. Try different times of the day in the beginning and find out when you get the most views or when you get the most engaged Fans. All these statistics are available for you on Facebook Analytics. Once you find out the best time to post on your Facebook Page, you can schedule accordingly. For example, if 7am is the best time to post on your Page, you don t always need to wake up at 7am and post! Schedule your post to appear later and if you need to make any edits go to your Activity Log, which can be accessed under the Edit Page Tab. The Activity Log also allows you to change previous posts dates or change the privacy.
12 Tip #8: Sponsored Stories Sponsored Stories (also known as Social Ads) add Facebook Friends interactions with the brand s Page along with the regular Ads on Facebook. It has been shown that the brand s Page appears more credible if Facebook Friends are engaged with the Page. Facebook will share information that their Friends have liked the Page or commented on a post.
13 Tip #9: Promoted Stories When you publish a post on your Facebook Page, only a small percentage of Fans see the post on their News Feed. New Media Rockstars and many other page admins estimate this percentage to be around 10%. To allow your posts to be seen by a larger crowd, consider using Promoted Posts for as little as $5. This can be an effective way to reach Friends of Fans and a portion of existing Fans. The promoted posts last 3 days from the start of the promotion. After 3 days, you can choose to promote it again for another 3 days. It is important to measure your metrics after promoting your post and see if this feature allows you to create more engagement. The Steps: Click on the Promote icon on the bottom right corner of the post. Select your audience and your maximum budget. Higher spending allows more Fans and friends of Fans to see the promoted posts. If you know that there are Fans who want to receive all posts from your brand, try putting this paragraph up as your status: ATTENTION FACEBOOK FANS Facebook now requires page admins to pay to promote their updates if we want our content to be seen by our fans who have already like our page. If we do not pay to promote our posts, only about 10% of the fans receive the updates on the Facebook home page feed. To keep RECEIVING ALL POSTS FROM US you have to hover the mouse on the Like button near our name. In the drop-down menu select ADD TO INTEREST LISTS. Then create an interest list (and make a name for your favorite sites). When you select that interest list you will again get all of our posts and not 10% of them.we recommend that you follow the above instructions for ANY Facebook page you care about, so you can continue seeing all the posts from the pages you already like.
14 Tip #10: Atomic Facebook App This app creates a separate tab on your Facebook page and displays your Tribe s feed. It s fun and versatile you can customize the banner graphic on the tab, and even have more than one Tribe displayed (which divides into smaller tabs on the page). And like all the apps at Atomic Reach, the Facebook Page Tab is designed to encourage social sharing. You can promote your blog and all your Tribe members. It gives your fans an easy way to follow your blog without leaving your page! And like all things Facebook, there are Like buttons beside each Tribe s post, and you can also Send to Wall any of the articles! The Steps: On Atomic Reach, go to Apps Facebook Page Tab Install the app and find it as a separate tab on your Facebook page. In the tab, you can select an image for the tab s banner and then add the Tribe(s) you want to showcase on your page. It s that easy! The Steps:
