4 Why should your business use social media? Facebook and Twitter These are not only for sharing status updates, cute photos, or sales pitches. Their true benefits are much greater than people realize. For a Business Search Engine Optimization is a MUST.
5 Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Pinterest, and more These will generate traffic to your website quicker than any other platform. The more you tweet and link back to your website, the more people that will click and come to your site. Your audience is waiting and listening are you talking to them?
6 First Steps to build Engagement and Fan Growth: You have to have set up. Set up a Facebook Fan Page (not a profile page) and set up a Twitter Account. Both Items are FREE and should take less than 30 minutes to set up completely. Ask your employees, friends, and family to like the page on Facebook and if they are Twitter users ask them to follow. Have your webmaster, IT professional, or whoever handles your website to add the Twitter icon and Facebook icon to your website and have them to link to the Social Media Sites.
7 Icons on your website Having the two icons on your website may seem very simple, but they have a heavy weight on your Search Engine Optimization. They tell your clients that you care and want to work with them. They also tell your clients you are in business and care about what people think of your business. Run a Website Grade Report on your website now, and then again after the icons are attached to the site. Your website s SEO grade will go up significantly.
8 Second Steps to build Engagement and Fan Growth: Start updating Social Media Facebook should be updated daily or every other day. The content should be relevant and not overly sales focused. Twitter should be updated multiple times each day (3 or 4 times is ideal). Keep the content light Funny content will go viral while negative or sales focused content will cause your account to be unliked or hidden from newsfeeds.
9 Ask Questions If you want people to comment, retweet, message etc., ask them questions. Ask you clients what they need, what they want, take survey s, get them involved. If they feel like they are assisting you in your decision making, the more likely they are to respond and act. Make the end user feel important ask them what they want to buy!
10 Learn from your fan base How do they react to what you post? Facebook gives you insights to your fans likes and dislikes. Underneath each post from your Fan Page there will be an impression count. The higher the impression count, the better the result. Photos or images will immediately result in a higher impression count. Twitter does not give insights, however you can see when followers Favorite your tweets or retweet them.
11 Use Insights to see who you are talking to. With a Facebook business page the insight tool will tell you exactly who your fan base is. Men, women, older, younger: They all speak different languages;, how are they using Facebook? Do they use a mobile device, a desktop or laptop, etc.? Use this information to adapt your posts to that audience. This will build the engagement. People consume social media in many different ways and times. If you want to build engagement, you need to post when they are watching and post what they like to see.
12 BLOG Blogging is a very simple task and can help with your website traffic more than you can imagine. Visit Wordpress and sign up for a free blog. Once a week, write up a paragraph about what is going on in your business, including celebrations you have had, new clients, new projects - anything that you are excited about. Post a photo and the paragraph on your blog. Post it! Then tweet it and post it on Facebook.
13 Blogging is very simple, but will give search engines a reason to come back to your site over and over again. Blogging boosts your rankings. Use keywords around your post to help searchers find you better.
14 Americans spend 23% of online time on social networks. Internet users spend more than twice as much time on social networks (including blogs) as they do on online games, the next top web destination by time. The most popular social network as measured by Nielsen online meters is Facebook, followed by Blogger, Tumblr, Twitter and LinkedIn. 21 Fan Growth Now that you have a base of fans/followers, make your posting content relative and engaging to them. Know how can you grow you fan/follower base.
22 Facebook Ask people to like you and include links to your Social Media outlets in your signature, on your website, eblasts, invoices, etc., The more people that know you, the more they will like your page. Offer a coupon on Facebook You can use an application like Woobox.com, which offers free and paid versions requiring individuals to like you in order to print a coupon. Facebook Ads are a low cost tool set a budget of $30 a month and pay per impression or when someone clicks. Ask them to like you. Average Cost per 1,000 impressions can be as low as 11 cents!
23 Facebook Ads Facebook Ads can also be a great way to promote a special offer or event. You can send people to your Fan Page to like the page or to your website or event page.
24 Twitter Twitter is a different plan all together. You have to thank the people who follow you. Follow people target companies that you do business with you and follow them. When you have a new follower follow them back and then thank them publicly. Tweet frequently and retweet mention companies often. Your retweet will be seen by your followers and their followers, which increases your odds of getting more followers.
25 Twitter Get involved during major events concerts, sporting events, holidays, major news stories. Tweet using Hashtags. A hashtags looks like #APPFORUM13. So for instance you could send the following tweet
26 Twitter The tweet you just sent out was seen by your followers and my followers. Then if I want to see what other people were talking about I could have clicked on #appforum13 and seen a HUGE conversation about the conference. The more you do this the more followers you will gain. Watch for #hashtags at all major events and join the conversation.
27 Tools to Help Often we hear that clients do not have time to do Social Media, or they have an hour a week but not every day. There are tools to help.
28 Twitter Feed (not just for Twitter) Twitter Feed ( is a free service that you can connect your accounts to. Facebook, Twitter, Linked In, Google +. Find a few websites you think represent your business and set up Feeds. Anytime a new article is posted on one of those sites, it will send a tweet for you, as you. It will post an article on a Facebook ad for you. You can adjust the frequency and number of posts per day. This is FREE!

30 Hootsuite Hootsuite This is a must have, especially if you are going to manage multiple accounts such as Twitter, Facebook, Linked In, etc., You have the ability to see all of your social media from one place and on one screen. Schedule posts for days, weeks, even months in advance. Social Media Command Center. This is a free program for one account Facebook or Twitter, or $5.99 a month for multiple accounts. Well Worth it!

33 Alerts and Monitoring The World Wide Web is open for business 24 hours a day 7 Days a week. Social Media is very active at night and on the weekends. Keeping a handle on your engagement is key! Respond to Negative and Positive feedback within 24 hours if not faster!
34 Be Informed You can set up Google Alerts for Free: Anytime your company is mentioned on the web, you can receive a free . Use Mobile Apps for your smartphone Facebook Pages App, Twitter, Hootsuite has a mobile app and have notifications turned on! Make sure your notifications are set for Twitter and Facebook. When someone posts on your timeline or tweets, you will receive an with the information in it. Be ready to respond!
