3 SIZES x 10 (portrait) or smaller, those are standard book sizes If the book you re making falls within those guidelines, then you don t need to worry! Want to go bigger? Here are the limits of we can bind* Max Page Size: 10 x 16 Max Spine Length: 16 Max # of Sheets: 175 sheets for best results, stay between sheets *Larger books add cost & time Books larger than 8 x 10 (any orientation) will double your printing price. Covers larger than 12 x 18 must be printed with our Inkjet printers, cost more & add 2 days to your turnaround time.
4 SETTING UP YOUR FILE Make 2 InDesign Documents: 1 for the body of the book, & 1 for the cover Body File- File > New Document... Set your page size Type in after your number to indicate inches Set your Bleed & Margin to at least.125 If you don t see Bleed, click More Options Cover File- File > New Document... Height = Page Height Width = Spine Width + (Page Width x 2) Give your cover file 2 columns & set the margin to be the spine width. Now you have guides for your spine! Set your Bleed to.125 If you don t see Bleed, click More Options # of Sheets Spine Width # of Sheets Spine Width
5 Bleed Line - colors that go off the page extend to this line Cut Line - this is the actual edge of the page Margin - important information should be inside this line Want text on your spine? 6 EXPORTING TO PDF Once the file is ready, go to File > Export... & save as an Adobe PDF (Print) Adobe PDF Presets: [High Quality Print] General Compression Marks and Bleeds Output Advanced Security Summary Export Adobe PDF Standard: None Compatibility: Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4) Marks and Bleeds Marks All Printer s Marks Crop Marks Bleed Marks Registration Marks Color Bars Page Information Type: Default Weight: Offset: 0.25 pt 0p9 Choose [High Quality Print] as your Preset Uncheck Spreads under the General tab Its the first menu option on the left Bleed and Slug Use Document Bleed Settings Bleed: Top: 0p9 Left: Bottom: 0p9 Right: 0p9 0p9 change this # to match that # Click the menu option for Marks and Bleeds Save Preset... Include Slug Area Cancel Export Check Crop Marks Bleed Marks & Use Documents Bleed Settings Then hit Export. Always check your PDF after exporting to be sure it looks correct.

But unlike the first page of your cover file, the inside of the front cover is on the left and the inside of the back cover is on the right. page 2 IMPORTANT: You should see individual pages, with crop marks on all sides. Colors or images that go to the edge of the page should extend beyond the crop marks.
